Mobile Source Emissions Estimates for Intra-zonal Travel Using Space Syntax Analysis (공간 구문론을 이용한 존내 자동차 배출량 추정 모형)

  • This study aims to develop a framework to estimate mobile source emissions with the macroscopic travel demand model including enhanced estimates of intra-zonal travel emissions using Space Syntax analysis. It is acknowledged that "the land-use and transportation interaction model explains the influence of urban structure on accessibility and mobility pattern". Based upon this theory, the estimation model of intra-zonal travel emissions is presented with the models of total travel distance, total travel demand, and average travel speed of intra-zonal trips. Thess statistical models include several spatial indices derived from the Space Syntax analysis. It explains that urban spatial structure is a critical factor for intra-zonal travel emissions, which is lower in compact zone with smaller portion of land area, lower sprawl indicator, and more grid-type of road network. Also the suggested framework is applied in the evaluation of the effectiveness of bicycle lane project in Suwon, Korea. The estimated emissions including intra-zonal travel is as double as the results only with inter-zonal demands, which shows better performance of the suggested framework for more realistic outcomes. This framework is applicable to the estimation of mobile source emissions in nation-wide and the assessment of transportation-environment policies in regional level.

Dead Zone Correction for Abundance Estimation of Demersal Fish by Acoustic Method (저서어자원량의 음향추정에 있어서 해저 데드존의 보정에 관한 연구)

  • In order to estimate demersal fishes using acoustic echo sounders and echo integrators, we consider several problems that are accurate bottom detection, optimum bottom offset and dead zone. The dead zone where no fish detection are summed distance resolution by the half pulse length of transmitted pulse and beam angle above the seabed. This paper has considered the dead-zone correction method to be technically correct for survey of demersal fishes. A comparison between near-bottom SV profiles acquired in Funka Bay, Hokkaido, of Japan, the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea, of Korea, with before and after the bottom correction, shows that the SV obtained with after the bottom correction is 2∼3dB higher than before the bottom correction in Funka Bay, and 17dB higher in East China Sea, too.

An Experimental Study on the Evaluation of Smear Effect Considering In-situ Conditions (현장여건을 고려한 스미어 영향 평가에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Evaluation of the smear effect caused by mandrel penetration into soft ground for a vertical drain installation is very important to predict the consolidation time of soft ground improvement. 30 kinds of laboratory model tests considering in situ conditions were conducted to investigate the formation of a smear zone and the decrease of coefficient of permeability in the disturbed zone. Three types(C(clay):M(silt)=1:1, 0.5:0.5, and 0:1) of reconstituted samples were used for 3 dimensional smear zone test. An experimental study was performed focusing on length of mandrel penetration, mandrel shape and size, earth pressure, and ground condition(unit weight and grain size distributions). Laboratory test results show that the length of mandrel penetration is the most critical factor for the formation of smear zone. As a result, the ratio between diameter of the smear zone($d_s$) and that of mandrel($d_m$) at field using long mandrel becomes larger than conventional $d_s/d_m$. The ratio between $d_s$ and $d_m$ ranges from 1.89 and 2.48 with the sample at C:M=1:0. It was also found that the $d_s/d_m$ value with the round shape of the mandrel is smaller than that of diamond one. The value of $d_s/d_m$ decreased with larger mandrel size, lower unit weight, and higher earth pressure. However, higher silt content led to increase of $d_s/d_m$. The ratio between coefficient of horizontal permeability in the smear zone($k_{hs}$) and that of undisturbed zone($k_{ho}$) ranged from 0.70 to 0.85. The test results imply that factors and values affecting $k_{hs}/k_{ho}$ show similar tendency with $d_s/d_m$.

JIC Evaluation of the Smooth and the Side-Grooved CT Specimens in the Reactor Pressure Vessel Steel(SA508-3) (원자력압력용기강 (SA508-3)의 평활 및 측면홈 CT시험편을 이용한 J$_{IC}$ 평가)

  • 원자력 압력용기강의 탄소성 파괴인성값 $J_IC$를 CT형 시험편을 이용하여 검토하였으며, 평활 시험편 및 측면홈 시험편의 두께는 각각 $B_O$=25.4mm, $B_N$=20.4mm 이다. 측면홈의 깊이는 19.7% 이며, 홈의 각도는 90 .deg.로 가공하였다. 탄소성 파괴인성시험은 ASTM E813-81과 JSME S001-81의 추천방법에 따라 실시하였다. 두 추천방법으로 실험한 결과 ASTM 방법에 의한 $J_IC$값이 과대평가됨으로써 부대조건에 만족되지 못하였지만 JSME방법은 만족되었다. 측면홈 시험편은 R고선법에 의한 ductile tearing의 결정이 평활 시험편보다 용이하였으며, 이에 따른 $J_IC$값의 정확성을 배가 할 수 있었다. 또한 임계 스트레치존 폭($SZW_C$)은 측면홈에 의한 높은 3축응력이 발생되어 평활시험편보다 적게 나타났으며, 이러한 복합적인 원인에 기인하여 스트레치존법에 의한 $J_IC$평가는 R곡선법에 의한 평가보다 약간 과대평가됨을 알 수 있었다.

A Graphene-electrode-based Infrared Fresnel Lens with Multifocal Function (다초점 기능을 갖는 그래핀 전극 기반 적외선 프레넬 렌즈)

  • We study through computational simulation the focal performance of an infrared (IR) Fresnel lens, composed of a multilayer-graphene zone plate formed under a graphene electrode. Here the Fermi level EF of the patterned multilayer graphene is adjusted by the overlying graphene electrode. The Fresnel lens effect, with respect to the reflectance contrast between the graphene electrode and the 8-layer graphene zone plate placed on a glass substrate, has been analyzed over a broad wavelength range from 4 to 30 ㎛. As the optimal wavelength of 8 ㎛ (considering the reflectance and the reflectance-contrast ratio) is incident upon the Fresnel lens with a focal length of 240 ㎛, the focal intensity is enhanced by a factor of 4.3 as the EF of multilayer graphene increases from 0.4 eV to 1.6 eV, and is improved by a factor of 5.8 as the number of graphene layers increases from two to eight. As a result, an all-graphene-based IR Fresnel zone-plate lens, exhibiting multifocal function (240 ㎛ and 360 ㎛) according to the selected EF, is proposed as an ultrathin lens platform.

An Estimation of Smear Zone Induced by Vertical Drain Construction Based on the Laboratory Model test (실내모형실험을 통한 연직배수재 타설에 의한 스미어존의 평가)

  • When ground disturbance takes place due to vertical drain construction through mandrel penetration, that affects excess pore water pressure dissipation time because of soft clay coefficient of permeability decreasing. Eventually, consolidation time is influenced. In this research, we measure process of excess pore water pressure dissipation before and after each other different shape's mandrel penetration through model test, and calculates range of smear zone, coefficient of permeability and horizontal coefficient of consolidation after model test. Using of test result, we grasp a degree of drainage ability drop resulting from vertical drain construction.

  • The vertical drain method generate the disturbed zone, because the drainage should be penetrated into the in-situ ground. The characteristics of the smear zone generated cause the problems that the coefficient of permeability decreases and the consolidation time anticipated in the design is not properly shortened. In this study, in order to understand such influence, the laboratory test were carried out so as to reasonably determine the coefficient of consolidation in silt. For that procedure, mandrel of a diversity were penetrated into the soil tube with silt, and then the variation of pore water pressure was measured with the pore pressure meter, Then, the range of smear effect on silt was estimated with monitoring data through the laboratory test, and also analyzed with inputting the coefficient of consolidation into the theoretical equation.

  • For the photoproduction of molecular hydrogen by photosynthetic bacteria in outdoor conditions, we constructed automatically controlled semi-continuous culture system. When the amount of hydrogen gas produced can be measured by a gas meter with a pulse generator, the same amount of substrate consumed for hydrogen production could be supplied by micro pump related with timers. Using the apparatus, we examined hydrogen production with immobilized cells of Rhodopseudomonas sPhaeroides B6 in outdoor conditions. In spite of severe fluctuation of weather and illumination, the culture was maintained under good control with regard to hydrogen productivity. It was possible to automate the semi-continuous outdoor culture of photosynthetic bacteria for hydrogen production.
