  • This article uses genealogical information to estimate fertility, mortality, and population growth in Korea during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Upper class males' probability of dying as estimated from genealogies was converted into that for the whole male population drawing upon information on colonial mortality and model life tables, which indicated male life expectancy at birth was 23 years. Age-specific marital fertility rates for upper class females as calculated from genealogies were combined with estimates of age at first marriage and information on colonial fertility to derive age-specific fertility rate for the whole female population, which implied a total fertility rate of 6.81. Finally, the estimated indices of mortality and fertility were inserted into equations describing stable populations to find that the Korean population grew 0.62% p.a. during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

  • This research paper is applying Family Tree with Story Authoring System on the previous research study about writing tool data model on interactive storytelling about family history. In this study, primary personal information holding identity of the person such as name, birthday and family tree, given at birth, was categorized into secondary function defined as "family contents" consisting of family achievements, episodes and experiences. Family contents was restructured to be used as creative ingredients to increase the value and usage of family contents...Family Tree with Story writing system enables users to create text, images, videos and digital contents based on experimental knowledge collected from the first and second generations.

  • This paper describes hierarchically stratifying and analyzing haplotrees of haplogroups from haplotypes on the Y and X chromosomes of human cells for genetic and Korean traditional and genealogical trees. The specific region is Chungcheong province, and the Y-DNA of the paternal lines has high frequency of O3a∗ and O2b∗ in the O group, and the mtDNA of the maternal line has a relatively high frequency of D∗ and M∗ in the L3 group. Each combination of these constructs the family tree of the father lines and mother lines. Genetic distances using Nei's standard genetic distance, are very close relatives of less than 0.1 and close relatives of 0.1 to 0.8. Provided, the distance is more than 1.0, it is difficult to estimate relatives. STR has the identified kinship, and SNP has the personal genetic identification. A scientific stratification of the Korean genealogical tree is created by the three factors.

The Characteristics and Expression of Landform in Feng-shui Map on Genealogical Table in the Choson Dynasty (조선시대 족보(族譜)에 게재된 산도(山圖)의 특성과 지형표현 - "기계유씨족보(杞溪兪氏族譜)"와 "반남박씨세보(潘南朴氏世譜)"를 중심으로 -)

  • A feng-shui map is a kind of map that features such propitious positions as fortune-bringing spots or ideal grave sites. The map is a representation of the most ideal natural terrains in terms of feng-shui perspectives. This study did research on two feng-shui maps registered on some genealogical tables in order to see how the map was drawn up. In addition, the detailed characteristics of landform expressions like the frame of the map, viewpoints, center-oriented mapping, water flow, mountain theories were delved into. The results of the research are as follows: the feng-shui maps for this research used the techniques of double scale and aerial view, described terrains with grave sites in their centers, and enlarged important terrains compared with surroundings for exaggeration purposes. In addition, other vital landforms not observed from grave sites were depicted with viewpoints moved and were represented in fine details. The part of mountain theories had the following points as their main subject matter: geographical locations, overall orientations of mountain ranges, topographical traits, grave seat directions and surrounding terrains.

  • This paper proposes a control method based on a pseudo-impedance model to control the motion of biped robots walking on an uneven surface. The pseudo-impedance model simulates the action of the ankle of a foot landing on the ground when a human walks. When the foot is in contact with the ground, the human ankle goes through two different phases. In the first phase, the human exerts little or no effort and applies no torque on the ankle so that the orientation of the foot is effortlessly and passively adjusted with respect to the ground. In the second phase of landing, the ankle generates a significant amount of torque in order to rotate and move the main part of the human body forward and to support the weight of the human; this phase is called the weight acceptance phase. Computer simulations of a 12-DOF biped robot with a 6-DOF environment model were performed to determine the effectiveness of the proposed pseudo-impedance control. The simulation results show that stable locomotion can be achieved on an irregular surface by using the proposed model.
