  • This study was peformed to systematize the concept of taste being recognized as new cultural values, as well as to ascertain the looks and aesthetical values presented in modern fashion in terms of taste. Taste is the life style being pursued individually, a preference and the important factor that characterizes each individual among contemporaries. In particular, the fashion is an important means able to differentiate respective tastes. The taste-based looks including; the dandy-look, the kitsch-look, fetish-look, the grotesque-look, and the kidult-look, etc. are reviewed as cases. Those are well expressing the phases of each times. The looks reflecting contemporaries' various tastes, are symbolic means showing the positive expectations on the present and the future. The looks are unifying fashion and society, and the designers are able to be key roles satisfying customer's taste by presenting of their collections. It is expected that the outcome of this study may provide academic basis of the tastes and a framework of interpretation of the tastes and fashion looks within culture by the aesthetical values presented as fashion.

  • With the change of patterns and the environment of the national standard of living the prohlem of environmental pollution became increasingly serious. Because of the enormous increase of various kinds of used and (after utilization) useless articles, efforts to save resources as well as the environment and the promotion of reprated utilization and recycling are inavoidable. The recognition of an environmental an health problem, and the desire for nonpollution created a desire for environment-friendly products in order to avoid an environmental consumptionism. Drink vending machines making use of vessels only once are closely related to the environmental problem. It is therefore necessary to develop an ecologically designed vending machine. In this study the backgrounds and concepts of green design, classification, construction and the environment of a drink vending machine arc analyzed. From this st1.rting-point a concept for the design of a drink vending machine is developed by two concepts : Type A (seperated-gathering type) and Type B (recycling type). Then three defferent types of vending-machines arc introduced a wall -adherable type, a center est1.blishable type and a desk top type. The conclusion of the text is threefold. There are needs for an ecological design of vending machines, ergonomIc considerations and a harmonization of the styldapperarance) of the machine and its circumferences.

  • Due to multidisciplinary characteristic of the Interior Design field, it has developed into complex interdisciplinary field. Therefore Interior Design field has grown and established its major trends dependent upon other related field of study. With this perspective in mind, esthetics on Interior Design has to be treated in similar manner. In modem architects or artists have defined the terminology 'object' theoretical principle where by unable to distinguish between 'object's type' and 'objects', Presently, the term 'object' became a trend word. In order to confront misconception of the idea of 'Objectification', some people definition as reflection of this complex society. In this paper, it will establish a solid groundwork for a discussion on Objectification. The initial approach will deal with Le Corbusier and esthetics, which is the center of argument. By reviewing theoretical background of the related modern art, the paper discusses about the relationship between Le Corbusier and esthetics. Subsequently, the discussion about the criterions necessary to define object is provided. This paper only suggests a methodology of analyzing a trend in Interior Design. The condition to define Objectification in Interior Design, which is a result of the reviewing process on esthetics, can be concluded as 'modeling form(transformation of morphological meaning with change wrought by causing a visual reaction)', 'mixtures and modification of materials(transformation and spontaneity through mixing materials)' and 'elements greatly influence space' of the Interior Design.

  • Graphic design plays an important role in contemporary culture. The chief social function of design is to create a visual identity. This essay focuses on the development of American graphic design and the embodiment of national identity in the twentieth century. The first chapter looks at the brief history of American graphic design. And the following chapter analyzes the example of those designers who have most obviously contributed to embodying identity in the United States. At the beginning of the twentieth century American modern design began with strong European roots. American designers added new forms and concepts to the tradition of graphic design. And their original approach to modern design gained international prominence. American design was pragmatic, intuitive, and more informal in its approach. The purpose of this essay is to inquire into the identity of American graphic design in a chronological survey.

  • The visual, sensible and social situation that the modern digital technologies create became the background for the works of architects in extreme modernism and their space modeling suggested another possibility that was emancipated from the restriction of a property of matter and gravity in the existing space. The architecture design process using the digital technology has been attempted in diverse ways and summarized with several characteristics such as displacement, nonlinear space, flexibility of space and non-Euclidean geometry system. However, the conceptual and very technical design process that is called as digital architecture has been indiscriminately used with mixed meanings and the common features and differences between works and theories are not studied. This study aims to classify and identify the digital architecture by type as analyzing the non-linear composition process that is common in the digital architecture.

  • To quantitatively measure or evaluate aesthetic factors is not easy in comparison with physical, functional, behavioral or economic factors. Yet aesthetic factors essentially play an important role in design modeling process. Despite its importance, research on aesthetic assessment or the interaction of aesthetic influential elements is insufficient. Therefore, this study is intended to find the relationships between visual preference and aesthetic variables of perceptual-cognitive dimension and affective dimension in commercial space design. According to the result of this substantiation research, aesthetic variables that give a positive effect on the preference of commercial space design are unity, order, and clarity in perceptual-cognitive dimension and 'pleasant', 'relaxing' in affective dimension. On the other side, aesthetic variables that give a negative effect on the preference are contrast, complexity, and ambiguity that is a contrary concept of clarity in perceptual-cognitive dimension and 'exciting', 'arousing' in affective dimension.

  • Recently, cognitive radio technology has been spotlighted for the efficient use of limited frequency technology. The most important part of CR is to protect the incumbent user's communications. Therefore, CR user should be sensing the currently using channel and another hopping channel for sudden appearance of the Incumbent User. In this paper, we propose the cooperative channel sensing to protect the IU considering each CR user's remained power and sensing-zone, sense the spectrum bands in a fairly distributed manner and share the results among the users within respective sensing zone. Sensing scheme including inband sensing and outband sensing is utilized. The inband sensing is in charge of current using channel scanning while the outband sensing mainly cares about other channels. The performance results by computer simulations show that our sensing scheduling scheme reduces the number of sensing nodes and saves energy need to channel sensing.

  • When a product is designed, user's requirements should be well analyzed and applied to the design so that the psychological and aesthetic factors of a product can be accurately conveyed to consumers. The essence of product development is to analyze the changes in the purchasing tendency of consumers and the needs of times, find out user experiences to apply to a design, and establish the objective of product development that well considers those. Designing should be recognized as one that designs even the sensitivity and experience created in the relationship with users, beyond the conventional notion of design that it draws the physical form of a product. As the subjects that design should consider have expanded like this, it has become important that today's design provides a new experience as well as simply develops formative elements based on the functions of an object. As a result, it becomes impossible to accomplish such objective only with the traditional design process that existing designers have stuck to so far. In this respect, this study is aimed to draw out a system and methodology for a user-oriented design process so that design can provide expanded experience to users from product form, applied material, and service.

  • Since the latter half of 20 century, in Korea, there are many discussions on the identity of Korean itself in several divisions, in which the discussion on the identity in the part of the costume or the part of the art reflecting the life, is the subject which must not fail to be noticed. So, we try to study the common structure manifested in the Korean painting and the costume as a part of basic recognition of problems and the way of problem-solving for the research on the Koran formative characteristics. The method and the process of this study is first, to consider the characteristics of the plastic and style of the Oriental arts and the Occidental arts by discourse implicate the difference between Oriental and Occidental view and the recognition of the body in the two worlds. And in the study we try to apprehend the dynamic modern artistic value of Korean style through assimilation between the Korean style and Baroque style according to the theory of $W\ddot{o}lfflin$ about the classical style and Baroque style. We will describe the Korean identity by analyzing the Korean plasticity with the Occidental style of dress and paintings reflecting the Occidental culture and thought and the Oriental things, and modern paintings and dress in the present age. As a result, we can try to recherche the way of use of new design for the identity of Korean style, in the concept of the ellipsis, repetition of the retrait, obscur silhouette, and superimposition.

  • Environment-friendly design becomes one of the main issues of the contemporary design. It has been developed with the advent of the organic view of the wend. It started as the environment-protective orientation and then enlarged its boundary including the designs which aims to revive the organic relationship between human and nature. Recent design approach in environment design emphasizes to be 'synchronized with the nature' and its basic attitude is the revival of the right relationship between man and nature. It also can be described as the design for Green Amenity. This paper researches on the concepts, types and the roles of the environmentally-friendly design. There are two basic concepts : one is environment-protective attitude and the other is the attitude which emphasizes the function of Green Amenity. This paper focuses on the latter approach. Through the analysis of the necessity and the function of the environmentally-friendly design, it aims to prove the fact that valuable human life need the design which connects human life aye with natural environment.
