  • Analytical solutions for regular waves generated by bottom wave makers in a 3-dimensional wave basin were derived in this study. Bottom wave makers which have triangular, rectangular and combination of two shapes were adopted. The 3-dimensional velocity potential was derived based on the linear wave theory with the bottom moving boundary condition, kinematic and dynamic free surface boundary conditions in a wave basin. Then, analytical solutions of 3-dimensional particle velocities and free surface displacement were derived from the velocity potential. The solutions showed physically valid results for regular waves generated by bottom wave makers in a wave basin. The analytical solution for obliquely propagating wave generation from bottom wave maker which works like a snake was also derived. Numerical results of the solution agree well with theoretically predicted results.

  • Detecting an inter-harmonic accurately is not easy work, because it has small magnitude, and its frequency which can be observed is not an integer multiple of fundamental frequency. In this paper, a new method using filter bank system and adaptive predictor is proposed. Filter bank system decomposes input signal to sub bands. In adaptive predictor, inter-harmonic is detected with decomposed sub band signal as input, and error signal as output. In this scheme, input-output characteristic of adaptive predictor is notch filter, as predicted harmonic is canceled in error signal, so detecting an inter-harmonic can be possible. Magnitude and frequency of detected inter-harmonic is estimated by recursive algorithm. The performances of proposed method are evaluated to sinusoidal signal model synthesized with harmonics and inter-harmonics. And validity of the method is proved as comparing the inter-harmonic detection results to MUSIC and ESPRIT.

  • It is of great importance to represent the directional ocean waves in a laboratory basin for hydraulic model tests. The directional ocean waves can be expressed as a linear superposition of a large number of component waves with different frequencies and propagating directions. The aim of the study is to check the wave generating characteristics by serpent-type wave generating system in PKNU (Pukyong National University) which is composed of 10 piston-type wave generators. In the experiment, spatial variation of irregular wave heights and propagating angles are measured in the multi-directional wave maker basin. Target wave directional spectrum is reproduced in the area of multi-directional wave maker basin. The directional spreading of the generated waves varied spacially in the basin. They differed from target spectrum as the measurement point becomes far from the center line normal to the generator face, The effective generation area where that target can be reproduced is limited to the triangular area attached the generator face. According to the results, it is emphasized that the effective experiment area in the basin considered wave generator characteristics should be determined in consideration of experimental conditions including structural shapes, water depth, wave directionality etc.

  • This paper analyze the operating characteristic of MCCB due to the synthesize harmonic current. Four types of MCCBs, divided by the type of operation system and a principle of operation, tested with 200[%] of rated current. The test result nuisance tripping did not occur but the time delay characteristic of the hydraulic magnetic type MCCB is appeared. From the place where the synthesize harmonic content is high it is good the hydraulic magnetic type MCCB not to use.

  • Analytical solutions for two-dimensional velocities of regular waves generated by bottom wave makers in a flume were derived in this study. Triangular and rectangular bottom wave makers were adopted. The velocity potential was derived based on the linear wave theory with the bottom moving boundary condition, kinematic and dynamic free surface boundary conditions. Then, analytical solutions of two-dimensional particle velocities were derived from the velocity potential. The velocity potential and two-dimensional particle velocities which were derived as complex integral equations were numerically calculated. The solutions showed physically valid results as velocities of regular waves generated by bottom wave makers in a flume.
