  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of retardent Paclobutrazol on the seed quality factors such as oil content, protein content and fatty acid composition in peanut cv. Saeddle(early variety) and Napung(medium variety). The results are summarized as follows : Oil content of seed was appeared to increase when Paclobutrazol was applied and especially it was remarkably increased at 120 ppm-90 DAS both in varieties. Even though protein content showed a little increase at 120 ppm-70 DAS in early variety and 120 ppm -90 DAS in medium variety, however, it was decreased in most case. Saturated fatty acids such as palmitic and stearic acid was reduced by Paclobutrazol treatment but unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic, linoleic, eicosenoic and eicosadienoic acid was tended to increase in early variety while palmitic acid was increased in medium variety but linoleic acid reduced and no change was observed in oleic acid content.

  • In order to observe the differences of several characters related to earliness, seven barley varieties were tested under two different photoperiodic conditions. Final leaf number per main stem under long day did not vary among varieties, but ranged 6 to 7 in early group and 9 to 10 in late group under shortday. Shoot apex of early varieties, Jogangbori and Oweolbori reached to X stage at 24 days, but that of late variety, CI 15446 did to X stag at 32 days after transplanting under short day. Spike length reached to maximum length at 39 days in early group, but at 51 days in late group. Saeolbori, CI 15446 and Hangmi were photo-sensitive, but Jogangbori and Oweolbori were photo-insensitive. Therefore, the photoperiodic response to short day was most responsible to heading time. Those results showed that early heading varieties had the characteristics with less variation of final leaves, less retardation of shoot apex development and spike elongation, and shorter period to flag leaf emergence under short day.

  • To develop new varieties of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.), the seeds of three varieties 'Naehan', 'Tammi', and 'Halla' were treated with proton ion beams and gamma rays (0~2,000 Gy), and then the characteristics of the mutants induced were examined up to $M_5$ generation to select the lines with fixed useful traits. In $M_5$ generation, we had selected several lines that were highly fixed for some useful traits such as plant height, maturity and flower size; one line with both earlier maturity and shorter stem than wild type, one line with only earlier maturity, two lines with shorter stem, one line with large flower, and one line with chlorophyll mutation. Among them, NP600-1-1-198-2 (induced from variety 'Naehan' was treated with proton ion beams 600 Gy) was superior for its distinction from the original variety, uniformity and stability. The unique characteristics of NP600-1-1-198-2 were dark green leaves, green stem, yellow flower, and black seed coat. Its flowering date was April 14, eight days earlier than its original variety, while seed maturity date was June 16 (five days earlier) and plant height 105 cm (shorter by 10 cm). NP600-1-1-198-2 has 52 silique per panicle, 6.2 cm silique length, 23 seeds per silique, 4.2 g per 1000 seeds and 45.9% oil content. The seed oil contained 67.8% of oleic acid, 16.7% of linoleic acid and 7.3% of linolenic acid but no erucic acid.

  • This experiment was carried out to breed the cold-tolerant variety of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) at the Grassland and Forage Crops Division, National Livestock Research Institute, RDA at Suwon, Korea, from 1999 to 2005. The new variety 'Kogreen' is a diploid variety with a green leaf color and had semi-erect habit in late autumn and erect growth habit in early spring. The heading date of 'Kogreen' was on May 4, and for 'Florida 80' was May 2, both are considered as early-heading variety. 'Kogreen' was wider by 0.7mm in flag leaf width, longer by 2 cm in flag leaf length and shorter by 1cm in plant length than the control variety, Florida 80. Stem width of 'Kogreen' was similar to that of 'Florida 80' and 'Hwasan 101'. cold tolerance of 'Kogreen' was better than that of 'Florida 80'. Dry matter(DM) yield (12,884kg/ha) of 'Kogreen' was 3% less than that of 'Florida 80'. in vitro dry matter digestibility was 74.7% and total digestible nutrient was 65.1%, which are 3.6% and 1.5% higher than those of 'Florida 80', respectively. Acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber of 'Kogreen' were 30.1% and 54.1% which are 1.9% and 1.3% lower than those of 'Florida 80', respectively.

  • Five soybean varieties of two early maturing; Karikei 73 and SS79168, and three late maturing; Tohoku 76, Baegunkong and Jangbaegkong, were used and evaluated in the study, Of the varieties examined, Karikei 73 was characterized by the delayed leaf senescence, To investigate the periodical trends of sugars in plant organs and their roles to the nitrogen fixing activity of root nodules, the concentrations of reducing and non-reducing sugar in root and nodules during the grain filling period were measured. The concentration of non-reducing sugar in roots was not changed up to the stage of R6 for all of the varieties but it decreased rapidly thereafter for the varieties except Karikei 73. No such rapid decrease in the concentration of non-reducing sugar in the roots was observed for Karikei 73 having the characteristics of delayed leaf senescence. The concentration of reducing sugar in the root nodules was not greatly changed for all of the varieties up to the stage of R6 regardless of the earliness of varieties but increased temporarily at R6.5 when there was a rapid decrease in ARA. The phenomenon explained the fact that nitrogen fixing activities were controlled not only by supplying sugars as the source of energy for nitrogen fixation, but also by the need for fixed nitrogen of the plant. The concentration of non-reducing sugar in root nodules also increased up to the stage of R6-R6.5 but decreased at R7, which could apply the same explanation as in the concentration of reducing sugar of the root nodules.

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate agronomic characteristics, forage quality and dry matter (DM) yield of early-maturing hairy vetch 'Cold green', 'Haymaker plus', 'Cappello' and medium-late maturing cultivar 'Cheong pa', 'Challenger', 'Hungvillosa' and 'Latigo' at Seongju in the Kyeongbuk from 2009 to 2011. The experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design with three replications. Hairy vetchs were seeded on Sep. 26 and Oct. 11 in 2009 and 2010. Vetch plants were harvested on 30 Apr. in 2010 and 2011. Cold tolerance for Haymaker plus and Cappello were a little lower than other cultivars. Fifty percent-flowering dates of Cold green had earlier than others and Haymaker plus and Cappello were earlier than Cheong pa, Challenger, Hungvillosa and Latigo. Cheong pa and Challenger were ealirer than Hungvillosa and Latigo. The DM yield of Cold green was the highest (p<0.05) of the cultivar except Haymaker plus. Haymaker plus was higher (p<0.05) than others and Cappello, Cheong pa, Challenger were higher (p<0.05) than Hungvillosa and Latigo in 2010. In 2011, the DM yield of Cold green was the highest (p<0.05) of the cultivar and Haymaker plus was higher (p<0.05) than others. Cappello was higher (p<0.05) than Hungvillosa and Latigo. Cheong pa and Challenger were higher (p<0.05) than Latigo. Vetch cultivar was high in crude protein (CP) and low in Acid detergent fiber (ADF). According to the results obtained from this study, it is suggested that early-maturing cultivar would be recommendable for fall sown vetch for DM production.

  • The aim of this study was to cluster according to the bone age of elementary school students in order to analyze the physique, physical fitness, and skeletal maturation of each cluter group and to provide basic data for the balanced development of elementary school students through data analysis. The subjects of this study were 2243 students aged 8 to 13 years, and the skeletal maturation were calculated by applying them to the TW3 method score conversion table after the X-ray films were taken. A total of 2 components in physique were measured using a stadiometer(Hanebio, Korea, 2021) and the Inbody 270(Biospace, Korea, 2019), and a total of 7 components in physical fitness, which included muscular strength(Hand Grip Strength), balance(Bass Stick Test), agility(Plate Tapping), power(Standing Long Jump), flexibility(Sit&Reach), muscular endurance(Sit-Up), and cardiovascular endurance(Shuttle Run) were measured as well. K-Means clustering method, cross-tabulation analysis, and one-way variable analysis(ANOVA) were conducted for data processing using the SPSS PC/Program(Version 26.0) and Bristics Studio Tool, and it was considered significant at the level of p< .05. The results of this study may be summarized as follow. First, as a result of clustering using three components of skeletal maturation: retarded, normal, and advanced, cluster 1(Retarded) showed excellence in muscular strength, balance, and agility. cluster 2(Normal) showed poor flexibility, whereas cluster 3(Advanced) showed excellence in muscular strength. Second, as a result of analyzing the differences in physique according to the clustering of elementary school students by their individual characteristics, cluster 3(Advanced) showed excellence in height, weight, and body fat percentage. Third, as a result of analyzing the differences in physical fitness according to the clustering of elementary school students by their individual characteristics, cluster 3(Advanced) showed excellence in Hand Grip Strength(Left, Right), whereas cluster 1(Retarded) showed excellence in Bass Stick Test, and cluster 3(Advanced) showed excellence in Standing Long Jump.
