  • Territoriality and privacy are known to be basic human instincts that have made today's cultural evolution possible. However there are also cultural differences in the expressions and meanings of territorial and privacy behaviors. Currently with the emerge of non-territorial workplaces office workers are deprived from what used to be their territory and force to share with co-workers leading confusion and stress. Therefore many research has be conducted on territorial issues but unfortunately little is known on Korean cultural concept of territoriality and privacy. Eyen though Korean society has been rapidly westernized during the 20th century, traditional culture still is a major influence on Korean's concept and use of space. This study explores and investigates the concept of territoriality and privacy and how they are expressed in traditional Korean housing focused on high level society between 17th and 19th century. Thus hope make a small contribution in designing unique and culture based interior spaces.

In the development process in order to verify and improve the usability of the platform, heuristic evaluations by usability experts along with usability test done by user participation are required. This study was conducted for the purpose of deriving appropriate evaluation areas and detailed evaluation indices prior to carrying out the heuristic evaluation. For the study, first, the concept of the service design platform was identified and the features of its component were analyzed. Second, based on literature study of standards which are related to usability evaluation indices, usability evaluation areas and indices were analyzed. Third, in order to establish and verify evaluation areas and indices which are appropriate for the evaluation, Delphi survey was conducted and its validity was verified. Through this study, evaluation indices with 4 evaluation areas and 45 detailed items were derived. Derived evaluation indices was made in the form of checklist and will be utilized for heuristic evaluation by usability experts.

  • This study aims to focus on clothing design's practical uses of the superior esthetic elements that can be found among the East's representations, in particular the characteristic Korean elements found in the latter part of the Chosun Era's women's Gauche and decorative personal ornamentation's moulded features. This has been the foundation for the creation of all eight pieces, and the conclusion is as follows: First of all, the Chosun Dynasty women's Gauche and ornamentation are in close relation to the general flow of society at the time. Gauche and personal ornamentation was not just a matter of beauty consciousness, but is permeated with then-mainstream society's culture, the results of an attempt to display a Korean appearance. Secondly, the desirability of the Chosun women's hair was expressed through Gauche, and through the exceptional brilliance of a diversity of embroidered color tones, braided as though creating Dare. Using this technique in clothing, a new image was created. Thirdly, the outstanding beauty of personal ornamentation's mouldings was used while creating new clothing compositions. The beauty felt through the Chosun women's personal ornamentation can also be felt through today's clothing. More than merely practical, this beauty also brings one closer to Korea and Korean past.

  • The mourning attire worn by the Sangju (Chief Mourner) during Confucian funeral rituals is known as Gulgeonjebok. It is comprised of Gulgeon, Sujil, and Hyogeon on the head, and Jungui underneath. On top of the Jungui, the ceremonial garments called Choeui are worn, along with Choesang. Yojil and Gyodae are then tied around the waist. Mahye and Hangieon are worn on the feet, and a walking stick made of bamboo, paulownia, or willow is carried. A needlework master, Choe Onsun, who was designated as a Holder of Intangible Cultural Property of Jeollabuk-do on November 27, 1998, is recognized for her efforts in restoring and recreating the forgotten Gulgeonjebok. Thanks to her endeavors, the period, regional, and cultural characteristics of Gulgeonjebok in the Jeolla Province have been preserved. This study aims to examine and reproduce characteristic items of Gulgeonjeboks handed down by a needlework master, Choe, by conducting an empirical study on the dimensions and schematization of the Gulgeon, the method of cutting, and the sewing process. The empirical research on Gulgeojebok is expected to further enhance traditional sewing skills. It will also serve as a foundation for deepening the level of research on traditional dress and sharing traditional cultural heritage.
