한국제지연합회(회장 최병민)는 지난 9월 9일 오후 2시 대한상공회의소 중회의실에서 한국 제지산업의 도전과 기회라는 주제로 제지산업 발전 방안 세미나를 개최했다. 핀란드의 글로벌 제지 컨설팅기업 포리(Poyry)의 Timo Suhonen 핀란드 반타지역 대표, DALI ZHANG 중국 사업부 임원이 세계 제지산업의 동향 및 전망에 대해 발표했다.

The paper industry has experienced locational shifts in the continuous innovations in raw materials and process technology. Due to the different conditions of production according to various nations and regions, the structure and location of the paper industry has evolved. Therefore, case studies of individual nations and regions are significant in understanding the various developments in the paper industry. The present study focuses on the locational shift in the development process of the paper industry in Korea, and explains the conditions in the factors of production, market and government policies. Firstly, the study examines the changes in the structure of the Korean pulp and paper industry from the early twentieth century until today, the conditions for factors of production, the change in the raw materials, the Korean paper industry staring as a pulp manufacturing process-focused then into a paper manufacturing process-focused. Secondly, the study determines how the current paper industry considers raw materials and market in the location selection process. Finally, the study explains how the locational shifts in the paper industry progressed with the implementation of location regulations in the metropolitan area since the late 1970s.

대한인쇄문화협회(회장 김남수)는 지난 8월 26, 27일 이틀간에 걸쳐 한솔제지 신탄진, 대전, 장항공장에서 산업시찰을 겸한 2011년 제2회 정기이사회를 개최했다. 이번 행사는 인쇄산업과 밀접한 관계를 맺고 있는 제지업계와의 상생을 도모하고 이해의 폭을 넓히기 위해 기획되었으며 한솔제지(대표 권교택)의 협력으로 진행되었다.

This study was conducted to propose the way to develop and strengthen competitiveness of the Korean paper industry by analysing current competitiveness and the factors which determine and influence it. Delphi method was employed to identify determining factors of international competitiveness of Korean paper industry and evaluate the level of competitiveness. The competitiveness both in the domestic and foreign markets was evaluated by analysing each product market faced by the Korean paper industry in light of each of the determining factors. Based on the Delphi survey results, in order of importance, product quality, manufacturing cost, transportation and storage, timely delivery, supply of raw materials, and marketing were identified as the factors determining international competitiveness. Among them, it was revealed that Korean paper industry has a certain level of competitiveness in the factors such as product quality and timely delivery service while supply of raw materials and manufacturing costs were found to be inferior to overseas manufacturers in both domestic and foreign markets.

This paper describes characteristics of pollutants in wastewater from the pulp and paper industry and biological technologies for the wastewater treatment. The wastewater from the pulp and paper industry contains high concentrations of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) and shows high toxicity and strong black-brown color. In particular, organic chlorinated compounds such as dioxins and furans may be formed by the chlorination of lignin in wood chips. Thus the pulp and paper industry is recently trending toward total chlorine-free (TCF) bleaching processes. All biological technologies for pulp and paper wastewater treatment are based on the contact between wastewater and bacteria, which feed on organic materials in the wastewater, thus they reduce BOD concentration in it. Both aerobic and anaerobic treatments were found to be effective for the wastewater treatment. Furthermore, advanced technologies such as fungal application and combined biological-filtration process have been also introduced to the wastewater treatment field. These technologies would be useful for water recycling to reduce water consumption throughout pulp and paper making process.

나노 크기의 물질 및 공정 개발 또는 나노스케일에서의 분석 등에 대한 기술을 통칭하여 나노기술이라 부른다. 나노기술은 최근 다양한 산업에 새로운 먹거리를 제공할 수 있을 것이라는 기대감과 함께 관심이 급증되고 있다. 전통적 굴뚝 산업이라 할 수 있는 제지 산업에 대한 나노기술의 적용은 매우 요원하고 상관없는 듯이 보이지만, 한편 습부화학 또는 잉크젯 용지 생산에서 사용하는 실리카는 나노기술을 이미 적용하고 있는 사례이며, 이 외에도 나노기술은 펄프, 제지산업의 새로운 먹거리 개발에 활용될 수 있는 여지가 많다. 본 발표에서는 펄프, 제지산업에 대한 나노기술의 적용 사례를 살펴보고, 새로운 제품 및 물질 개발을 위한 그 가능성을 살펴보고자 하였다.

월간 프리팅코리아의 창간을 기념하고 인쇄제지업계 공동 발전을 위한 세미나가 '글로벌 시대 인쇄산업의 대응전략'이라는 대주제로 6월 14일 오후 3시부터 6시까지 한솔제지 강당에서 개최됐다. 대한인쇄문화협회와 한솔제지, 신무림제지 공동주최의 이번 세미나에서는 삼성SDI연구소 최운섭수석연구원이 '전자종이의 최근동향'에 대해, 인쇄물수출진흥협의회 이국홍회장이 '인쇄산업의 세계화전략'에 대해, 한진피앤씨 김명성상무가 '인쇄업계의 세계화 사례'에 대해, 한솔제지기술연구소 이재수수석연구원이 '선진인쇄업체의 기술동향'에 대해 각각 주제 발표를 했다. 이어 신구대학 오성상교수의 사회로 종합토른이 진행됐다. 세미나에 앞서 민재기 인협회장은 축사를 통해 "인쇄와 종이는 바늘과 실의 관계인 만큼 인쇄사와 제지사는 공존공영해야 하는 공동운명체"라고 전제하고 "양업계가 머리를맞대고 21세기를 위한 대응책을 마련하자"고 강조했다. 다음은 이날 발표된 주제 중 이재수박사의 강의 내용을요약, 소개한다.
