  • This study performed the structure analysis for development and localization of main and nose wheel in Korean Helicopter Program(KHP). Structural stability of wheel is evaluated using ANSYS. Considering wheel and tire interface, Stress analysis was conducted by applying pneumatic of tire, static load, radial load and combined load on main and nose wheel. Considering yield strength at which plastic deformation occurs, simulation results suggest the method which increases structure stability after comparing maximum stress and yield strength.

  • In this paper, stochastic imperfection sensitivity analyses of stiffened cylindrical shells under static load are presented. Multimode formulation is performed for the buckling load calculation based on the Donnell's theory and Galerkin approximation. Random imperfection field theory and response surface method are combined with deterministic bucking analysis scheme to perform stochastic imperfection sensitivity analyses of stiffened cylindrical shells considering random geometric imperfection. From the characteristics of probabilistic bucking load, the relation between reliability index and safety parameter can be obtained in addition to the relation between load and reliability index. Those results can be used to determine the range of required safety parameter and acceptable imperfection.

  • This study is structural analysis and continuous, discrete optimum design of braced steel frame structures under earthquake loads considering soil condition. The program which is able to perform simultaneously structural analysis and continuous, discrete optimum design, it is applied steel frame structures using unbraced, Z-braced, and X-braced types and analyze the program about static loads and seismic loads. The purpose of this study is to present proper braced type for seismic effects by comparing and analyzing results of analytic method about various cases using specially Newmark-Hall design spectrum, ATC design spectrum and ATC equivalent static analysis and finding minimum weight and design variables which satisfy the ultimate strength requirements of AISC-ASD specifications, the serviceability requirements and allowable story drift requirements of ATC-3-06 and various constraints.

  • The structural safety of the basic design model of the linear actuator for the individual blade pitch control of eVTOL personal aircraft was investigated. Stress analysis based on the finite element method was conducted, and the margin of safety was calculated to examine the structural safety under stall load conditions. Additionally, fatigue analysis was conducted to evaluate the fatigue life of the linear actuators under operating conditions. The load history with the blade pitch angle was calculated using multi-body dynamics analysis, and the static load analysis was used to obtain the stress distribution for the rated load. As a result, it was confirmed that the safety margins exceeded zero, and the fatigue lives of all linear actuator components exceeded 107 cycles, indicating a safe structural range.

  • A nonlinear dynamic response structural optimization process is proposed for the television (TV) packing system that protects the damage from a drop situation using the equivalent static loads (ESLs). Topology optimization using ESLs is carried out for conceptual design, and shape optimization using stress ESLs for a virtual model is performed for detailed design. Stress ESLs are static loads that generate the same displacement as well as the stress fields of linear static analysis as those of nonlinear dynamic analysis. Thus, the response of nonlinear dynamic analysis can be utilized as a constraint in the linear static structural optimization. An actual example is solved to validate the process. The drop test of a television packaging system is analyzed by LS-DYNA, and NASTRAN is used for optimization.

  • In this study, the NREL 5 MW wind turbine tower model was optimized according to the multi-body dynamics and reliability-based design. The mathematical model was defined as a link-joint system including dynamic characteristics derived from Timoshenko's beam theory. For the optimization problem, the sensitivities to variations in the tower thicknesses and inner and outer diameters were acquired and arranged in terms of safety and efficiency according to bending stress and buckling standards. An optimal design was calculated with the advanced first-order second moment method and used to define a finite element model for validation. The finite element model was simulated by static analysis. The relationship between the multi-body dynamic and finite element method throughout the process was investigated, and the optimal model, which had high endurance despite its low mass, was determined.

  • In this study, fatigue crack growth rate of a cracked railway bogie frame under variable amplitude loading is predicted by applying linear elastic fracture mechanics. For this purpose, we find the critical points by reference surveying on cracked railway bogie frames. And we make an effective load history by synthesizing the dynamic load measured from the critical points of railway bogie frame during commercial line operation and the static load calculated from structural analysis. Crack growth analyses are performed at the 3 critical points under the commercial operation loading condition by assuming an initial crack size as 40 mm. and the results are compared with the experimental results from Japanese railway bogie frame crack growth case. From the analysis results, we find that around 500,000 km operating distance is necessary to bring crack growth from the initial crack to unstable crack. And it takes around 3.8 normal operating years. We conclude that it is enough time to detect the crack between normal maintenance period.

  • The break of rotary blade is occured from a stress concentration of the inside of blade by the outside impulsive load. In order to examine its inside stress and stress concentration of rotary blade, a epoxy plate which is suitable to applicate by photoelastic system is used to experiment. These results are summarized as follow. 1. Refer to the existence of bolt hole and a size of its of rotary blade, a stress concentration which cause the break of rotary blade is not exposed. 2. It is expected to be break to section of hold of rotary blade and the break of this is due to that there are concentrated by shearing force, bending moment and bending stress. 3. When the crack which caused from processing are set up to any location, the stress concentration taken to the creak point. 4. Without regard to the location of the reaction points of rotary blade, the bending stress which is greated than the bending moment is occured within about 6 em toward the center line of bolt hole and it was possible to break that section.
