  • This study aimed to analyze the characteristics and problems of the quasi-market for welfare technology in the long-term care service area in South Korea. The qualitative interviews to the developers of welfare technology were conducted. The main results are as follows. First, the long-term care insurance (LTC) in South Korea has helped to create the limited amount of the effective demands for welfare equipments with low technology. Second, the systemic features of the LTC, however, have constraint the quantitative expansion as well as qualitative growth of the quasi-market for welfare technology. The low level of financial support combined with strict regulations has obstructed qualitative competition in the market. Third, they tend to develop the standardized and minimum welfare equipments for the serious needy for long-term care instead of welfare technology promoting independency of the elderly. Based on the results, this study provided the predictions for the growth of welfare technology and suggested some policy implications.

  • The mobile instant messengers could change the lives of average citizens as much as did the telephone in the early part of the 20th century and television in the 1950s and 1960s. Researchers are debating whether the mobile instant messengers are improving or harming participation in community life and social relationships. For this study, 155 participants in two universities completed questionnaires pertaining to their own mobile instant messengers use and feelings of loneliness. We used survey data to examine the effects of the mobile instant messengers on social involvement and psychological well-being. In this sample, the mobile instant messengers were used extensively for communication. Results suggest that greater use of the mobile instant messengers were associated with declines in participants' communication with the people around which in turn creases their loneliness. These findings have implications for research and for the design of technology.

  • This study is a descriptive study to investigate factors affecting the level of performance of COVID-19 infection prevention activities among nurses. The participants were 190 nurses at a tertiary hospital located in Daejeon city and data collection was performed during March, 2021. The results showed that the factors affecting the level of performance of infection prevention activities were age(β=.25, p=.008), working unit(β=.15, p=.046), and hospital safety climate(β=.17, p=.025). Therefore, in order to improve the level of performance of infection prevention activities among hospital nurses, education and policy to establish a hospital safety climate should be implemented.

  • This study is that internal members of social welfare are divided into the first organization directly controlling and managing subjects and the second organization supporting and assisting the first one, and both organizations are analyzed through the empirical study about cooperation degree on the basis of interaction degree related with cooperation relationship from interorganizational relationship theories. That is because organic cooperation between both sides is essential element to effectively approach the ultimate purpose which subjects and related people need because of the social welfare business. This result suggests that both sides broadly recognize the need about cooperation between management systems and that it must come first to establish values and behaviors about the cooperation among the persons in charge on the organizational internal level for organic cooperation between organizations.

  • This study was performed to examine the relationship between fatigue and fatigue-regulation behavior in Hemodialysis(HD) patients. Methods: The subjects for this study were 107 patients on HD who were registered in a hospital in Seoul. The data were collected from August 2 to August 14, 2010. The collected data were analyzed by the SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Results: The mean score of fatigue was 77.1 which means their experience of high level fatigue. Frequency of the fatigue-regulation behavior and the mean of efficiency of the fatigue-regulation behavior was 8.8 and 22.8. Positive correlation was found between fatigue and fatigue-regulation behavior (r=.45, p=.000). Conclusion: It is considered that the study emphasizes for the healthcare providers to recognize fatigue as the important nursing issue for HD patients. And it is necessary to develop an evidence-based nursing intervention program for regulating fatigue in HD patients.

  • This study was done to identify the significant convergence factors of affecting depression of elderly women in rural area. A total of 161 elderly women aged 65 and over were collected and data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression with SPSS/WIN 21.0. The result indicated that 42.9% of participants were depressed. In logistic regression, significant factors of depression were age(p<.001, OR=1.146), economic status (p=.004, OR=.123), number of family member living together (p=.013, OR=.020), number of social activities (p=.012, OR=.436), number of disease diagnosed (p<.001, OR=3.847), visual function (p=.023, OR=3.867), family support (p=.048, OR=.707), which accounted for 68.6% of the variance. The results of this study can contribute to develop various convergence strategies to prevent the prevalence of depression of elderly women in rural area. Further studies are needed to confirm the level of contribution of visual disability to depression in rural older women.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the possibility for assessment of binocular visual function about alteration for near point of convergence (NPC). Study subjects were total 30 (emmetropia 16, myopia 14), who had no eye disease except for the phoria and monocular corrected vision 1.0 and over. Near point of accommodation (NPA), NPC and phoria test were measured both at ordinary and stimulation of +1D. Ordinary NPC was 1.77cm shorter than NPC stimulated +1D and the NPC of emmetropia was shorter than that of myopia. The difference between NPC stimulated +1D and ordinary were increased in the emmetropia. As the NPC increased, the AC/A ratio was elevated and the feature of near exophoria appeared. The results suggested that the alteration of NPC might substitute AC/A ratio for reference variable of binocular vision. If converged and analyzed comparatively with another binocular visual evaluation test, the alteration of NPC could be developed for substitution of evaluation test.

  • We study online gaming regulations and examine the reactance and attitude of the targeted group. To be specific, we focus on the 'Shutdown Law' due to its scope and magnitude of its influence. The Shutdown Law was enforced to prevent adolescence's immersion in or addiction to online gaming; however, its effectiveness has yet to reach a consensus. Our empirical findings show that the reactance to the regulation is stronger as game usage increases; surprisingly the effect of game usage on reactance weakens among the affected adolescence's group, compared to the adult counterpart. Furthermore, heavy users in the targeted group are more likely to play online gaming to mingle with their peers, and thus more likely to play other activities that friends participate in. These results suggest that online games play a role to cultivate peer-culture among adolescence and facilitate their communication.

  • This study examined the health behavior and comorbidity based on a community health survey of stroke patients in 2010. The subjects were 4,449 adults over the age of 19 years, who were diagnosed by doctors and completed a community health questionnaire. The subjects demographic characteristics, health behavior and comorbidity were analyzed. Significant differences in age, education, smoking and alcohol consumption were observed. The influencing factors for comorbidity according to gender included myocardial infarction, diabetes and depression. According to the characteristics of comorbidity of the life cycle, hypertension, myocardial infarction and depression. The influencing factors related to the 19-44 year age group included Ex-smokers, 45-64 year old ex-smokers, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, atopic dermatitis, and the 75 year and over group with diabetes, hyperlipidemia, tuberculosis, and atopic dermatitis. This study suggests that health education and a health policy approach based on the relevance between stroke and comorbidity, and the health behavior according to the life cycle and gender are needed.

  • This research attempted to identify the factors associated with the intention of human papilloma virus vaccination among mothers of elementary school daughters. The subject of study is 132 mothers of elementary school students. Data collection was conducted from July 1 to August 30 in 2017, and analyzed using SPSS 23.0 Program. Results showed that 94.7% children of the participants had not been vaccinated, whose reasons were the low knowledge about HPV vaccination, concerns about its side effects, burden for cost. The attitude toward HPV vaccination appeared to be the most important predictor of vaccination, which was followed by perceived behavior control and subjective norm as meaningful predictors, as well. Based on these results, further researches should be conducted to develop educational programs, which are able to offer exact information about the effect and side effect of HPV vaccination, and verify the effectiveness.
