  • In this paper, a model-based stick-slip compensation for the micro-positioning is proposed using an enhanced stick-slip model based on statistical rough surface contact model. The smart structure is comprised with PZT (lead (Pb) zirconia (Zr) Titanate (Ti)) based stack actuator incorporating with the PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) control algorithm, mechanical displacement amplifier and positioning devices. For the stick-slip compensation, the elastic-plastic static friction model is used considering the elastic-plastic asperity contact in the rough surfaces statistically. Mathematical model of system for the positioning apparatus was derived from the dynamic behaviors of structural parts. PID feedback control algorithms with the developed stick-slip model as well as feedforward friction compensator are formulated for achieving the accurate positioning performance. Experimental results are provided to show the performances of friction control using the developed positioning apparatus.

  • Capillary tubes are widely used as expansion device in small refrigeration systems. The refrigerant flowing in the capillary tube experiences frictional and accelerational head losses and flashing simultaneously. In this paper flow characteristics of adiabatic capillary tubes were simulated with various friction factor models, two-phase viscosity models, and two-phase frictional multiplier models. The predicted pressure distribution and mass flow rate are compared with experimental data reported in literature. It is confirmed that the predicting accuracy with homogeneous model can be improved by employing suitable correlations of friction factor, two-phase viscosity and two-phase frictional multiplier.

  • 초대형 컨테이너선을 대비하여 기존의 자동화 이송 시스템인 AGV는 자동화, 유지보수의 어려움 등으로 인해 많은 문제점이 있다. 이에 대한 방안으로, 새로운 이송 시스템인 LMTT(Linear Motor based Transfer Technology) 시스템을 제안하였다.

  • As the risk of earthquakes increases recently, earthquake-resistant designs were getting interest. For this reason, this study applies that Friction pendulum-type seismic isolator is a device that attenuates seismic energy by friction and pendulum motion. The friction pendulum-type seismic isolator of this study is very easy to transport, install and maintain with light weight of metal by applying the slider using high strength engineering plastic. In addition, there is an advantage that the corrosion resistance is very excellent compared to the existing metal parts. However, there is concern about long-term durability by replacing metal materials. In this study, the frictional pendulum-type seismic isolator with EP was applied to compressive-shear test, repeated fatigue test, and ultimate load test after fatigue test, and analyzed the deformation and shear or properties after the test. As the results, the adequacy of long term fatigue durability was experimentally proven.

  • An experimental study was performed to evaluate seismic reduction performance and the applicability of 2-dimensional floor isolation system to the main control room of a nuclear power plant. A lead-rubber bearing (LRB) and a friction pendulum system (FPS) were designed and fabricated for a 2-dimensional floor isolation system. A partial experimental model of a main control room with the LRB and FPS was tested using a shaking table. The experimental model consisted of a control panel, a 2.5m${\times}$2.5m access floor, and four LRB and FPS. The artificial time histories based on the horizontal floor response spectrums (OBE, SSE) of the main control room were used as earthquake input signals. Compared to the non-isolated system, the seismic response of experimental models using a 2-dimensional floor isolation system showed considerable seismic reduction performance against an earthquake.

  • This paper analyzes the thermal behaviors of genuine discs used in automobiles and discs coming out of tuning products through FEM analysis. Modeling with genuine disk modeling and tuning disks Model-1, Model-2, Model-3 and analyzing the disk rotation speed was set to 1000rpm. When the brake is operated, the thermal behavior of the disk surface, such as the operating temperature caused by the disk and pad contact, the friction surface temperature after the disk stop, and the thermal deformation, were analyzed. When the brake was activated (0-4.5 seconds), the tuning disk showed 34℃ higher than the original disk, and after the disk stopped (40.5 seconds), the tuning disk was analyzed 18℃ lowe, deformation due to the disk heat was deformed by 0.3mm for the tuning disk. Although there is an effect to reduce the fading phenomenon due to the thermal behavior of the pure disk and the tuning disk, it can be observed that there is no significant change in the thermal behavior due to the hole processing and the disk surface processing of the tuning disk.

  • Generally, the total ventilation resistance coefficient in a tunnel consists of inlet/outlet loss coefficient, wall friction coefficient, and other loss coefficient caused by sudden expansion and contraction of cross-section, etc. For the tunnel before opening, when the running ventilation fan is stopped, the wind speed in the tunnel is reduced by the total ventilation resistance drag. The velocity decay method is comparatively stable and easy to estimate the wall friction coefficient in the pre-opening tunnel. However, the existing study reported that when the converging wind speed is a negative value after the ventilation fan stops, it is difficult to estimate the wall friction coefficient according to the velocity decay method. On the other hand, for the operating tunnel in which the piston effect acts, a more complex process is performed; however, a reasonable wall friction coefficient can be estimated. This paper aims at suggesting a method to minimize the measurement variables of the piston effect and reviewing a method that can be applied to the operating tunnel. Also, in this study, a new method has been developed, which enables to calculate an variation of the piston effect if the piston effect is constant with a sudden change of external natural wind occurring while the wind speed in the tunnel decreases after the ventilation fan stops, and a programming logic has been also developed, which enables dynamic simulation analysis in order to estimate the wall friction coefficient in a tunnel.

  • An experimental study is performed to investigate the effect of air-side heat transfer and friction on characteristics of finned tube heat exchanger under dry surface and wet surface conditions (RH 50%, 70%). Air enthalpy calorimeter is used to obtain the performance evaluation and analysis of a fined tube heat exchanger. Four finned tube heat exchangers with slit fin or plain fin are tested. The number of tube rows are 2 and 3, and the tube diameter is 7 mm. Air-side heat transfer and friction are presented in terms of j factor and friction factor. At dry surface condition, j factor decreases with increasing Re and j factor of 3 row is lower than that of 2 row. Also, the friction factor of a slit fin is larger than that of a plain fin. At wet surface condition, the heat transfer effect is more significant in the case of the slit fin than the plain fin and 2 row than 3 row. The j factor and friction factor are affected by humidity, tube row and fin configuration.
