A Full Digital Capacitive Sensor for Touch Key Applications (터치키 응용을 위한 풀 디지털 정전용량 센서)

  • In this paper, a full-digital capacitive sensor for touch key applications is proposed. The proposed circuit consists of two capacitive loads to measure and a resistor between the capacitive loads. As the method measures the delays of the resistor and two capacitive loads respectively, and obtains difference between the capacitive loads by subtracting the two delays, it can reduce the effects of changing of operating environment variables such as supplying voltage, temperature and humidity. Experimental results show the method has l.02pF resolution and can be applied to touch key applications.

  • 본 연구는 UKF Algorithm을 이용한 정전용량형 원격RF센서시스템을 개발하였다. 원격 RF센서 시스템이란 wireless, implantable 그리고 batterless을 만족하는 센서 시스템을 의미한다. 기존의 원격 RF센서 시스템은 보편적으로 집적회로 타입을 채택하지만, 그 구조의 복잡성과 전력소모의 제약을 받는다. 이러한 제약을 해결하기 위해 본 연구에서는 R, L 그리고 C만으로 구성되어있는 유도결합원리를 이용한 원격 RF센서 시스템을 제안하였다. 제안된 RF 센서 시스템은 압력 혹은 습도와 같은 환경의 변화를 정전용량 값으로 측정할 수 있으며 센서의 정전 용량 값을 측정하기 위해 비선형시스템의 파라메타추정에 적합한 Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF) 기법을 채택하였다. UKF 기법을 이용하기 위해 제안된 시스템은 페이저법을 사용하여 수학적으로 모델링되었다. 마지막으로, 제안된 UKF 알고리즘을 이용한 원력 RF센서시스템이 잡음환경에서도 정전용량값을 비교적 정확하게 추정가능함을 확인하였다.

  • Resistivity cone penetrometer test (RCPT) can be employed at a relatively low cost for in-situ delineation of subsurface contamination. While the resistivity measurement has a potential to investigate the subsurface contamination, resistivity measurements alone will lead to some degree of ambiguity in the results. In this study, capacitance measurement was incorporated into the RCPT to overcome the ambiguity inherent in electrical resistivity measurements. This study is focused on verifying the applicability of resistivity and capacitance measurements of CPT module to provide information on subsurface contaminated by heavy metal and petroleum hydrocarbon. Laboratory model tests were performed to evaluate the sensitivity of the measured resistivity and relative capacitance on the water content and different types of contaminants. Test results show that simultaneous measurement of electrical resistivity and capacitance can give more reliable information on subsurface contamination. Electrical measurements of the CPT module showed high applicability to be used in detecting saturated soils contaminated by heavy metal and diesel plume floating above the groundwater table.

  • The unit-water content in fresh concrete determines consistency, and play an important role in condensing the structure of concrete and enhancing the durability of concrete. The capacitance measurement method measure quickly unit-water content and is the best way to apply to construction site. In this study, the unit-water content of capacitance measurement method is estimated according to types and replacemment ratio of admixture. and the field application of capacitance measurement method is reviewed.

  • Nonlinearity parameter is an inherent property of materials measuring fundamental acoustic amplitude($A_1$) and second harmonic amplitude($A_2$). However, measurement of $A_1$ and $A_2$ has complex calibration procedure, many researchers prefer to measure relative nonlinearity parameter rather than absolute nonlinearity parameter. But, relative nonlinearity parameter is only detect materials degradation with various degradation samples, it is limited application in determining third order elastic constants of materials. Therefore, in this study, the piezoelectric detection method is adopted to measure absolute nonlinearity parameter due to experimental simplicity compare to capacitive detector. Linearity of measurement system is verified by $A_1^2vsA_2$ plot, and we measured ultrasonic nonlinearity parameters of fused silica and Al2024-T4.

  • Recently, the super capacitor(EDLC) which has drawn attention as a new energy storage element has a lot of advantage such as no maintenance, long lifetime and quick charge/discharge characteristics with large current. The objective of this paper is propose a parameter measurement method to detect the changes in equivalent series resistor (ESR) and the capacitance value of a super capacitor in order to analysis the internal characteristic and worn-out state of a super capacitor. For proposed method, only the capacitor voltage measurement using simple analog switch is required. In addition, experimental results of voltage sag compensation system in order to compensate the input voltage drop during short-term power interruption adopted super capacitor are presented.

  • Recently, the concern on the receipt of poor ready-mixed concrete in the construction field and the durability of concrete has been increased. Based on the such background, a large number of measuring methods of water content for fresh concrete have been developed and enforced in a developed country. In this study, to investigate practicality for quality control of ready-mixed concrete among various water content measurement techniques, microwave range method, air meter method and capacitance measurement method as measuring methods of water content were selected. Then, it was evaluated estimating performance of water content according to the change of binder types, fine aggregate types, absorption ratio, water content and water-binder ratio in series I and II. Also, it was examined influence on error occurrence of water content according to change of properties of used materials in series III. Finally, based on this study, it was proposed fundamental data to utilize measurement technique of water content to quality control of ready-mixed concrete in construction field.

  • 나노 기술의 급격한 발달에 따라 나노미터 수준의 정밀도를 갖는 초정밀 측정 기술이 여러 분야에서 요구되고 있다. 헤테로다인 레이저 간섭계를 이용하여 초정밀 위치 측정을 하려고 할 때, 광학기기 자체의 불완전함에서 발생하는 비선형성 오차는 주요한 요소로 작용한다. 본 논문에서는 헤테로다인 레이저 간섭계 시스템에서의 비선형성을 보정해주기 위해 적응형 알고리즘을 제안한다. 기준 입력인 정전용량센서와 최소자승법을 이용하여 보정변수를 구한 후, 반복 최소자승법을 이용하여 비선형성에 따른 타원 위상을 비선형성이 보정된 원 위의 위상으로 사상시킨다.

Dual Sensing with Voltage Shifting Scheme for High Sensitivity Touch Screen Detection (고감도 터치스크린 감지를 위한 양방향 센싱과 전압쉬프팅을 이용한 센싱 기법)

  • This paper proposes a new touch screen sensing method that improves the drawback of conventional single-line sensing methods for mutual capacitance touch screen panels (TSPs). It introduces a dual sensing and voltage shifting method, which reduces the ambient noise effectively and enhances the touch signal strength. The dual sensing scheme reduces the detection time by doubling the integration speed using both edges of excitation pulse signals. The voltage shifting method enhances the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by increasing the voltage range of integrations, and maximizing the ADC's input dynamic range. Simulation and experimental results using a commercial 23" large touch screen show an SNR performance of 43dB and a scan rate 2 times faster than conventional schemes - key properties suited for a large touch screen panels. We implemented the proposed method into a TSP controller chip using Magnachip's CMOS 0.18um process.

  • Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs) are widely used as surge protectors for communication applications due to their small internal capacitance. In these days, however, they are mostly used in combined configurations, because the sparkover voltage required to initiate the discharge process in the GDTs and the time taken for arc formation process can be large enough to damage to sensitive circuits. For GDTs with a considerably high initial residual voltage, we should limit the peak voltage using a TVS or filter. We made a hybrid SPD circuits of common-mode type and differential-mode type with the filter using common-mode choke. Also, we applied lightning impulse voltage and ring wave voltage which frequency bandwidth are different each other and verified the characteristics of hybrid SPD circuits according to waveshapes. We describe how the applied SPDs operate in protection process steps with the actual data obtained from the residual voltage measurement at each step. The experiment results show that the surge voltage reduction with the choke coil is more effective in differential-mode circuit than in common-mode circuit.
