  • This study discussed the trends and characteristics of mental health services in the public libraries of North America. To accomplish this, this study collected its data through literature surveys, observations and interviews with librarians within the Vancouver public library system. The results show that there were many cases in which patrons asked public libraries for information on their mental health problems and the public libraries helped the patrons cope with their problems. The public libraries' assistance programs for national tragedies and natural disasters were temporary services. On the other hand, public libraries were continuously advising and guiding patrons dealing with emotional and psychological problems through the readers' advisory and information services. Specifically, public libraries were actively assisting various sensitive issues that are generated in the development of children and youths(for example, adoption, divorce and separation, remarriage, family, friendship, disabilities, death, self-esteem, emotions, bulling, violence, abuse, suicide, illness, addiction, sexual health, youth pregnancy and so on). The key role of librarians under these circumstances was to guide and recommend appropriate books and professional institutions that help solve the problems.

The subjects of the survey were 695 consultants engaged in inbound work at four call centers in D metropolitan city. Data collection was conducted using structured, self-administered questionnaires from November 15th to December 5th, 2016. The results of this study show that the QOL of the reps was significantly negatively correlated with mental health and emotional labor but significantly positively correlated with work environment, self-efficacy, organizational support, and organizational commitment. The results of structural model analysis show that mental health had a negative influence on QOL, whereas work environment and self-efficacy had a positive influence. In addition, emotional labor had a negative effect on mental health, but organizational commitment and work environment had lowered emotional labor level. In addition, organizational support had enhanced employee self-efficacy and organizational commitment, and organizational commitment had mitigated emotional labor. Therefore, it is necessary to implement a health promotion program to improve the QOL of call center reps.

  • Recently, nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) has been increasing considerably in school counseling. According to the Youth Counseling and Welfare Development Institute, the number of counseling support for NSSI adolescent in 2018 was more than three times higher than the previous year, and the average time when NSSI behavior first appeared was 12.43 years old. As such, adolesnect NSSI continues to increase in recent years, and the age is also gradually decreasing. Nevertheless, research on the motives and characteristics of NSSI among domestic adolescents is still insufficient. This may be attributed to the difficulty of conducting research because self-injury behavior is secretly performed. However, it is also true that this reality has another limitation in the school field, which urgently requires counseling intervention and prevention of students' mental health problems. In addition, counseling for self-injury in the school scene is the biggest cause of exhaustion for counselors because they are under very great stress to cope with repeated self-harm in the dual role of counselors and teachers in school situations. Therefore, this study examines the causes and characteristics of involuntary self-injury through previous research analysis, and examines various difficulties experienced as a school counselor, as well as the effective intervention method of non suicidal self-injury in school counseling.
