  • "The certification of compliance of new products of industrial convergence" (hereinafter referred to as "certification of compliance") is a legal certification system in accordance with the Industrial Convergence Promotion Act through which a convergence new product can be officially certified without legislation when the certification standards applicable to the product are not yet provided. Unlike other certification systems, the certification of compliance is characterized by the role of resolving the certification difficulties driven by the regulatory lag of convergence new products. Nevertheless, studies that analyzed the certification of compliance in detail from the viewpoint of regulatory improvement were surprisingly rare. Through the sequential matching of the steps of certification of compliance with the process from the occurrence of a regulatory problem to resolution, our study provided clear understanding as to how the regulatory lag could be reduced by the procedure for certification of compliance. Furthermore, we divided the perspective on regulatory lag management into quantitative and qualitative, and the structures and practices of certification of compliance were then analyzed from the two perspectives. By doing this, the present study emphasized that the fundamental reason the certification of compliance could effectively solve the regulatory lag problem of convergence new products was not only the quantitative elements such as legal deadlines for each step but also several qualitative approaches to securing the quality of every stage.

  • Due to the convenience, RMR has been widely applied in civil engineering works such as tunnel, slope, and so on. Many researchers have studied to suggest more simple and trustable RMR by modifying its parameters. However, those researches have just focused on looking for easy modified-RMRs by reducing number of parameters using various statistical analyses. Therefore, this research studied questions of modified-RMRs and gaps between RMR and its parameters. Approximately 2,000 parameters of 400 RMRs from various tunnel sites were normalized respectively and compared with one another to study their relations and divergences. The comparison results showed that there were common patterns among RMR and parameters. Data of uniaxial compressive strength and RQD, qualitative parameters, were located in upper side of RMR line. Discontinuity condition and ground water, quantitative oriented parameters, were opposite to them. It means if both qualitative and quantitative parameters can be properly combined then it can be easy to make simple and easy modified-RMRs without using difficult statistics. This results also show that the majority of field engineers used to estimate RMR conservatively when they did quantitative oriented parameters.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the students' responses when students were confronted with anomalous situations in physics. 16 students were selected from one middle school in Busan by examining the pre-test results. To measure students' responses and cognitive conflict levels, written Cognitive Conflict Levels Test(CCLT) developed in a previous study was used together with interviews. Students' responses were tape-recorded. Two kinds of anomalous situations were presented. One was a quantitative demonstration with scale, the other was a qualitative demonstration without scale. In the quantitative group, all students observed anomalous situations correctly. However, in the qualitative group, many of their observations of anomalous situations were incorrect. The students who observed anomalous situations based on preconceptions tended not to abandon their preconceptions, and suggested confirmation experiments which were supposedly to support their preconceptions. The students who recognized results very differently from their preconceptions when confronted with anomalous situations abandoned their preconceptions and suggested alternative experiments. The students who changed their beliefs about preconceptions showed higher cognitive conflict levels than who didn't abandon their preconceptions.

  • Implementing UX design that meets user expectations has become an important variable that determines the prominence of smart home appliances. This study addresses the UX design evaluation issues in mobile application development of smart home appliances. As an experimental research subject, the UX design evaluation contents were set up for the mobile application of , the demand of which is surging recently. The purpose of the research is to explore the significance of the UX design user evaluation method in smart home applications, and to suggest how to achieve the mixing of quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods. The main findings are as follows. First, we found that user evaluation can positively impact the direction of UX design. Secondly, we found that the mixing of 'quantitative' and 'qualitative' methods works complementarily to UX design evaluation. Research implications are as follows. The UX design evaluation process can be performed efficiently as long as we distinguish between the roles of quantitative evaluation and qualitative evaluation. For example, through qualitative evaluation such as 'Honeycomb model', can be identified in terms of 'exploratory', and through qualitative evaluation such as 'in-depth user interview', can be identified in terms of 'assessment' and 'validation'.

  • Shoulder instability is generally diagnosed from a detailed history, physical examination and various radiological studies. Although, a physical examination is essential for making a diagnosis, it is quite difficult. For a precise physical examination, a thorough anatomical knowledge and a great deal of experience is needed. In addition, normal translation and pathologic laxity should be differentiated. An anatomical and biomechanical understanding of a stable and unstable shoulder joint and a precise physical examination are needed to determine the direction and extent of the instability as well as to diagnose the associated lesions and improve the surgical results.

  • Various public construction projects have been performed for public welfare and appropriate evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency has been required. In accordance with legislation of a post construction project evaluation in Construction Technology Promotion Act, all construction projects that exceed 30 billion won in budget are required to perform post evaluation. Korean Government provides post construction evaluation manual that includes both quantitative and qualitative criteria. However, it only provides general concepts and procedures not but detail guidelines for different construction project types and characteristics. Therefore, this paper developed a standard format for qualitative evaluation using survey through analyzing previous cases and research. As a result, the developed standard for survey can be applied for most civil and architectural facilities. However, it will need further research regarding establishment of detailed evaluation criteria for each type of facilities and data storage system for feedback.
