A Design and Implementation of Bus Information Notification Application

  • In this paper, we design and implement a bus information notification application based on the GPS sensor of a smartphone. This application provides the ability to check bus stops within a radius of 200m based on the current user's location using the smartphone's GPS sensor, Google Map, and open API. In addition, if you click the marker of the desired stop, you can see the name of the stop, and click the view arrival information button to check the detailed bus arrival information of the stop. In addition, it provides a function to check the location information of pharmacies, nonghyups, and post offices that sell public masks, the names of public mask stores, and mask inventory through the public mask store button. Each icon was used differently to make visual differences in order to easily indicate the difference between the times of public mask sales and bus stops. In addition, if you want to know the information of other bus stops and the route of the desired bus, not around the user's location, click the bus stop search button. Finally, after storing the destination stop or location, it implements a function that provides an alarm when it approaches the location.

Study on the Proper Separation Distance from Intersection to Bus Stop for Reducing Traffic Accidents (교통사고 감소를 위한 교차로에서 버스정류장간 적정 이격거리 산정 연구)

  • The location of the bus stop on urban roads should be installed at a point where it is convenient for users and the impact of bus stops on the traffic flow is minimized. However, the location of the bus stops is determined indiscriminately due to the lack of related research. Therefore, this study developed a traffic accident prediction model and calculated the proper separation distance for the bus stops through an optimization technique. The result of the study indicates that the bus stop can be installed in the form of a mid-block approximately 87 to 166 m away from the intersection in the road section. This result is valid if the number of main road lanes in the road section is 2 to 4 with a level of traffic from 1,000 to 3,000 v/h. In the section with 5 to 6 lanes, it is desirable to install a bus stop close to the intersection by about 42 to 97 m.

  • Modern society is steadily implementing policies to encourage public transportation to cope with the growing traffic demand on limited roads. The expectation is rising for transit signal priority to ensure the speed of buses as the installation of the bus rapid transit(BRT) expands nationwide to secure the competitiveness of buses. On the other hand, the form of BRT stops without considering some aspects of bus operation may increase the number of stops on the bus, thereby reducing the effectiveness of bus signal priority applications. This study suggests the type of bus stop to increase the operation efficiency of buses by analyzing the bus signal priority effect according to the BRT station type using Hannuri-daero, Sejong. The bus signal priority is used to maximize the two-way bandwidth of passenger cars and buses. As a result of the application, the effectiveness of the bus signal priority at the stop causing the double stop of the bus was reduced drastically, and the efficiency of the bus signal priority was increased significantly after improvement. These results are expected to be used as basic data in the form of proper bus stops considering the aspects of traffic operation when designing BRT stops in new towns in the future.

The Bus Arrival Time Prediction Using Bus Delay Time (버스지체시간을 활용한 버스도착시간 예측)

  • It is occurred bus arrival time errors when a bus arrives at a bus stop because of a variety of traffic condition such as traffic signal cycle, the time to get on and off a bus, a bus-only lane and so on. In this paper, bus delay time which is occurred as the result of traffic condition was estimated with Markov Chain process and bus arrival time at each bus stop was predicted with it. As the result of the study, it is confirmed to improve accuracy than the method of bus arrival time prediction with existing method (weighed moving average method) in case predicting bus arrival time using 7 by 7 and 9 by 9 matrixes.

  • This study analyzed the transit services with respect to transit service measures such as the load factor representing number of passengers between stops, dwelling time, and operational speed based on transit smart card data recorded in 2009. A case study on the local bus line 7024 connecting Seoul railway station to evaluate bus services at passenger perspectives was accomplished. From the results, we found that the dwelling time was not affected by the number of passengers which is because the tagging patterns are different among passengers. The operational speed was analyzed by calculating the average speed of the bus route and the speed of each bus stops based on dwelling time. Interestingly, calculating operation speed based on the transit smart card data is the first time effort ever made and this means that it is not necessary to observe travel speed of bus and railway at a field level any more. we hope that this study will be a basis of evaluation of transit services purely based on the transit smart card data and help to make better transit services for passengers and operators as well.

  • The world's major cities operate public rental bicycle systems to complement the existing problems of public transport in the city. Disclosing the rental history data in Daejeon has opened new analytical possibilities. In this paper, we proposed a method to analyze the data using the visualization. We found a positional feature of the station according to the bicycle usage. In addition, we examined the bicycle usage patterns according to the time/day/month. On the other hand, the usage patterns between each of the bicycle stations were identified through a path analysis. The specific objectives were identified through each stop destination ratio analysis. Based on these data, we suggest a direction of Daejeon public bicycle rental system development.

A Study of Estimating the Alighting Stop on the Decision Tree Learning Model Using Smart Card Data (의사결정 학습 모델 기반 교통카드 데이터 하차 정류장 추정 모델 연구)

  • Smartcards are used as the basic data for utilizing the various transportation policies and evaluations, etc. and provided the transportation basic statistics index. However, the main problem of the smartcard data is that the most of users do not take the alighting tag at the stop, so there is a limit to the scope of use for the total O-D trip data because incomplete O-D traffic data of transportation card users. In this study, a decision tree of learning model is estimated for the alighting stop of smartcard users. The model estimation accuracy in range less than 2 stops interval was 89.7% on average. By eliminating the incompleteness alighting stop of smartcard data through this model, it is expected to be used as the basic data for various transportation analyses and evaluations.

  • In this study, the characteristics of transfer station are analyzed using the data of public transportation. The traffic card of Daegu does not include boarding information. The boarding data are calculated using traffic card data and the BMS data. It is found that transfer has increased by the distance from CBD and the numbers of routes, and decresed by the waiting time. Oneway ANNOVA are carried out to find the optimal number of clusters. Three clusters are chosen in this study. The center of the first cluster shows 2.99, so it has a characteristic of CBD. The second is 6.73, the outskirts of town, and the third is 12.78, the outlying areas.

A Proposal of Bus Stop Park for the Improvement of Urban Street Environment (도시 가로환경 개선을 위한 버스정류장 소공원화 방안)

  • Bus stops are places that a variety of things happen including waiting, meeting and taking breaks. Therefore, these locations need to be made to meet the usage demands. They should be landscaped to provide a comfortable and satisfying environment for users. At present, bus stops are made with artificial materials and are all unified in form without consideration to landscape, ecology and other characteristics. Users are exposed to the poor surroundings. However, if small urban parks, which are of vital importance as well as extremely convenient, were connected to bus stops, the results would be a quantitative increase in the leisure locations and a qualitative change in the form of improved landscape and various forms of parks. The research was carried out to determine the effects of connecting bus stops and small parks, and the results are as follows. First, small parks provide resting areas for waiting passengers and buses. Second, it provides presently insufficient rest areas with convenience facilities and makes it more comfortable to take buses and use the park. Third, it provides a multi-functional efficient use of space that functions as both bus stop and park. Fourth, it can be a symbolic landmark that can represent the color of the area by adding a cultural element. Fifth, the existing green space in the park can contribute to the natural environment of the city. This study deduced general problems surrounding bus stops on the basis of selected indices and researched bus stops which are being used as parks and the places which have the potential for such purposes, in order to suggest a plan of attack. In addition, this proposal can create a new form of space, the bus stop park, and try to create a module of cases to establish it.

  • 본 논문에서는 안드로이드 스마트 폰의 Bluetooth 센서와 Open API 기반의 저상 버스 예약 애플리케이션을 설계하고 구현한다. 이 애플리케이션은 Bluetooth 센서를 이용하여 Beacon과 단방향 통신을 통해 사용자의 위치를 기준으로 반경 50m 안의 버스정류장을 확인할 수 있고, Open API를 통해 확인된 버스정류장을 경유하는 노선별 저상 버스 정보를 확인할 수 있도록 구현한다. 그리고 저상 버스 탑승 예약 기능과 버스 기사가 예약자를 확인할 수 있는 기능을 구현한다.
