  • In this paper, we designed and verified a Far-field measurement system for measuring the performance of an antenna operating in millimeter wave(W-band). For the antenna test, a measurement system should be selected according to the type of antenna, measurement items, measurement environment and period, etc. In the case of near-field measurement, it takes a lot of time because the number of measurement items increases when the antenna has multiple channels or various beams. Such an antenna can reduce the measurement time through Far-field measurement, and only necessary measurement items can be measured. Therefore, this study secured precise alignment of the far-field measurement system using a high-power laser and improved the measurement accuracy by applying a double amplifier system. The designed system was built in the anechoic chamber and verified by comparison with the verified Near-field measurement system.

  • In the present research, the optical measurement error induced by vibration of the optical measurement tower for large mirrors at KRISS (Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science) is investigated. The vibrations of the tower structure, the interferometer, and the null lens are measured while the surface errors of the 600-mm-diameter on-axis aspheric mirror are measuring, under various environmental conditions. The increase of surface error induced by alignment error with respect to vibration is analyzed. As a result, the interferometer and the null lens, which are located on the top of the tower, are highly sensitive to vibration. Additionally, the surface error of the mirror is strongly increased when the vibration directions of the interferometer and the null lens are different. To reduce the alignment error and the surface error induced by vibration, the tower structure should be improved, to be insensitive to low-frequency vibration. Alternatively, optical measuring under stable conditions by vibration monitoring can improve the reliability of the surface error measurement.

  • Quasi-elastic light scattering is utilized to measure the mean diameter of the 0.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$-dimeter polystyrene sphere. The mean diameter of the polystyrene sphere is required to be known within the uncertainty of a few per centages. The systematic error has been considerably reduced by improving the system for the angle alignment and temperature measurement of cell. NIST SRM 1691 (0.269$\pm$0.007 $\mu\textrm{m}$: TEM; 0.275$\pm$0.007 $\mu\textrm{m}$: QELS) is measured to be 0.273 $\mu\textrm{m}$$\pm$0.006 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in mean diameter. Detailed description is given of the improved method and the resultant uncertainty, and the comparison of results with NIST is followed.

  • We present a diffraction grating interferometer of large equivalent wavelength specially designed for flatness testing of rough surfaces. Two transmission diffraction gratings are illuminated on the object under test by use of two measurement beams with different angles of incidence, which yields a large equivalent wavelength. This interferometer design minimizes unnecessary diffraction rays and the systematic error caused by the diffraction gratings, and provides a large working distance and easy alignment. To improve the measurement accuracy, phase shifting technique is applied and the equivalent wavelength error caused by defocus is calibrated. Test results obtained from mirror surfaces and machined rough surfaces are discussed.

  • Satellites are generally put in horizontal configuration to install a weighty, large and deploying SAR antenna which is required precise alignment. It is not to damage an antenna deployment mechanism from impellent strength as SAR antenna rotation axis is aligned with the gravity axis and SAR antenna is put in a zero gravity condition. In order to install such a deploying antenna, satellite should be a same condition of the vertical configuration without the deflection of satellite when it is rotated horizontally. In this paper, it is shown how to measure the deflection of satellite and how to get a reaction force value for compensating the deflection.

  • There is increasingly interested in the measurement of antenna's characteristics for one's manufacture according to one's various application. Due to this, the antenna measurement system need be made with more and more great precision. On measuring of the antenna's characteristic, the conventional system handled by human generates the error due to controlling the position of the system by user. Therefore there need be introduced the automatic measurement system of antenna's characteristic. In this paper, we propose image processing algorithm for the automatic measurement system of antenna's characteristic. The proposed algorithm gets image of the standard gain horn antenna in the chamber room, extracts an antenna object from the image, and extracts the parameters for automatic alignment of AUT(Antenna Under Test) and Probe. Also the proposed algorithm gets the error for corrects of slope and distortion of AUT junction due to weight of fitted antenna.

  • In this paper an algorithm of image alignments for constructing seamless mosaics is proposed. After the global alignment has been run, there may still be localized mis-registrations present in the mosaic. Due to mis-registrations, there may be seams in the mosaic, such as breaking, blurring, and doubling of lines. To solve this problem, we need an algorithm of residual motion estimation, which minimizes mis-registrations. In the conventional algorithms of residual motion estimation, computational powers are too heavy and estimators of camera parameters are additionally needed such as focal lengths. In the proposed algorithm, residual motion vectors are estimated with the adequate size of estimation and measurement windows and with adjustment of initial vectors according to the established priority. By construction of mosaics with the proposed algorithm, we demonstrate the removal of seams by mis-registrations.

  • The Cassegrain telescope consists of a primary concave mirror and a secondary convex mirror. In the case of a secondary mirror, it is more difficult to test wavefront error than for a primary mirror, because it reflects the entire testing beam, as it is convex in shape. In this paper we tested the wavefront error of a complex aspheric convex secondary mirror by using the Simpson-Oland-Meckel Hindle test. To separate the systematic errors, such as fabrication error and alignment error of a meniscus lens, we adopted the QN absolute test (pixel-based absolute test using the quasi-Newton method) as well. Finally, we compared the measured result with that of an ASI (Aspheric Stitching Interferometer) made by the QED company, which resulted in an rms difference of only 2.5 nm, showing a similar shape of astigmatism aberration.

  • The precise measurement of ultrasonic power is important to the qualify assurance and the safety of medical ultrasonic equipments In the Present work, a brier theory was introduced to determine the ultrasonic Power from the time valving balance-indication due to the radiation force acting on an absorbing target and/or other causes such as buoyancy during the repetition of on/off behavior of ultrasonic irradiation. The developed automated system measuring the ultrasonic power was described in detail with the precise mechanical alignment tool , the electric signal generation network, the control and measurement network and the appropriate procedure. The ultrasonic power measured by the developed system was compared to the reference data calibrated by the other national metrology institute at 1 MHz, 5 MHz, 10 MHz, and 15 MHz over the range 10 mW to 10 W. Their relative differences are within $5\%$.

  • Kinematic contact trigger probes are widely used for feature inspection and measurement on coordinate measurement machines (CMMs) and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools. Recently, the probing accuracy has become one of the most important factors in the improvement of product quality, as the accuracy of such machining centers and measuring machines is increasing. Although high-accuracy probes using strain gauge can achieve this requirement, in this paper we study the universal economic kinematic contact probe to prove its probing mechanism and errors, and to try to make the best use of its performance. Stylus-ball-radius and center-alignment errors are proved, and the probing error mechanism on the 3D measuring coordinate is analyzed using numerical expressions. Macro algorithms are developed for the compensation of these errors, and actual tests and verifications are performed with a kinematic contact trigger probe and reference sphere on a CNC machine tool.
