  • As of 2003, construction waste has been produced at the level of 130,614.8 tons/day, in which the amount of waste concrete was 92,639.1 tons/day and accounted for about 66.4% of the amount of construction waste. Waste concrete is mainly produced in construction work and civil engineering work. Especially, road surface crushing method using a large amount of water requires thorough management of concrete wastewater. The aim of this study was to analyze water pollution due to concrete wastewater generated in repair of bridge deck using road surface crushing equipment and to suggest reasonable countermeasures for solve the problem. In this study, it was surveyed current conditions of produced concrete wastewater in bridge deck repair, analyzed physical features of concrete wastewater, expected effects of water pollution on inflow rivers if it is not treated, established treatment plan of water pollution by categories, and calculated capacity of each treatment process and required amount of necessary chemicals. As a result of sampling wastewater generated in field sites and testing it at a lab scale, it was revealed that the original wastewater was produced in removing concrete from bridge deck slabs using surface crushing equipment whose pH was 12.53, CODMn was 12.910mg/L, SS was 547.0mg/L, and other heavy metals were included in extremely small quantities.

  • An experimental investigation of the effect of composite patching repair was conducted to characterize the fatigue crack growth behavior in thick A16061-T6 (6mm) panels with single bonded patch by fiber reinforced composite patch. Four patch lengths and no patch plate were examined. An analytical procedure, involving three-dimensional finite element method having three layers to model cracked aluminum plate, epoxy by adhesive and composite Patch, is calculated the stress intensity factors. From the calculated stress intensity factors, the fatigue crack growth rates are obtained. At the single patching type, different fatigue crack growth ratios through the palate thickness were investigated by using the experimental and analytical results. The results demonstrated that there was a definite variation in fatigue life depending on the size of composite patch. While crack reached the patch end, retardation of crack growth was also revealed in the bonded repair.

  • DC motors have widely been used in the field of variable-speed driving system since it is easy to control flux and torque of the motors precisely but it is hard to check and maintain those periodically. In addition, there are difficulties in high power and high speed running due to rectifying limit of commutator, and are a lot of restrictions in installation. Therefore, speed control in BLDC(Brushless DC) motors have seriously been studied for a long while. In this paper, a mathematical model of BLDC motor driven by PWM inverter is developed. Dynamics and steady-state characteristics of BLDC motor are simulated and analyzed with a series of experiments for the parameter estimation : torque, speed, phase voltage and current.

  • In the cold region, road surface is frequently frozen, resulting in property/facility damage as well as people's death. In order to prevent the road surface from being frozen, conventional deicing methods such as salt, geothermal, and electric wires have been widely used. However, theses methods have some problems such as anti-environment, high-construction and -maintenance cost and so on. To improve the drawbacks of aforementioned methods, carbon nanotube (CNT) was used as an heating material in the laboratory test. Through the test, heat transferring effect of CNT on the concrete slab was investigated and maximum interval of CNT installation was determined.

  • The enhancement of service life of damaged or cracked structures is currently major issue to the researchers and engineers. In order to improve the life of cracked aging aircraft structures, the repair technique which uses adhesively bonded boron/epoxy composite patches is being widely considered as a cost-effective and reliable method. This paper is to study the performance of the bonded composite patch repair of a plate containing an inclined central through-crack. A 3-dimensional finite element method having three layers to the cracked plate, composite patch and adhesive layer, is used to compute the stress intensity factor. In this paper, the reduction of stress intensity factors near the crack-tip are determined to evaluate the effects of various non-dimensional design parameter including composite patch thickness, and material properties of the composite patch and thickness of the adhesive layer, materials of patch etc., and the crack length, Finally, The problem of how to optimize the patch geometric configurations has been discussed.

  • Adhesive bonding repair methods has been used for a number of decades for construction of damaged structures. In order to evaluate the life of cracked aging aircraft structures, the repair technique which uses adhesively bonded boron/epoxy composite patches is being widely considered as a cost-effective and reliable method. But, this repair method contains many shortcomings. One of these shortcomings, debonding is major issue. When the adhesive shear stress increases, debonding is caused at the end of patch and plate interface. And this debonding is another defect except cracks propagation. In this paper, we assess safety at the cracked AI-plate repaired by Br/Epoxy composite patch. Firstly, from the view of fracture mechanics, reduction of stress intensity factors is determined by the variety of patch feature. Secondly, using the elastic analysis and finite element analysis, the distribution of adhesive shear stresses is acquired. Finally, The problem of how to optimize the geometric configurations of the patch has been discussed.

  • Composite patch repair of cracked aircraft structures has been accepted as one of improving fatigue life and attaining better structural integrity. Analysis for the stress intensity factor at the skin/stiffener structure with inclined central crack repaired by composite stiffened panels are developed. A numerical investigation was conducted to characterize the fracture behavior and crack growth behavior. In order to investigate the crack growth direction, maximum tangential stress(MTS) criteria is used. The main objective of this research is the validation of the inclined crack patching design. In this paper, the reduction of stress intensity factors at the crack-tip and prediction of crack growth direction are determined to evaluate the effects of various non-dimensional design parameter including; composite patch thickness and stiffener distance. The research on cracked structure subjected to mixed mode loading is accomplished and it is evident that more work using different approaches is necessary.
