  • Nowadays, most car manufactures have tried to improve fuel efficiency and corrosion resistance of car body. Therefore, use of high strength steels and coated steel becomes more and more increased. In this study, spot weld characteristics according to lap sequence of sheets were analyzed using simulation method for three different steel sheet of car body which were EDDQ class coated steel with 0.7t, high strength steel 440R with 1.2t and advanced high strength steel DP 590 with 1.0t. Using simulation, weldability was evaluated by nugget size of welded zone according to nugget growth curve and welding current with respect to lap sequence of sheets. Contact resistance of each sheets contact point was used to analyze formation of nugget and optimal lap sequence was suggested.

  • Heavy metals, Cd and Pb, in soil were extracted by using anionic surfactants such as AOS (alpha olefin sulfonate), SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfate), and LAS (linear alkyl benzene sulfonic acid). Metal extractability from soil was affected by the carbon number and solution pH of surfactants. LAS showed higher metal extractability due to the acidic solution condition. Although SDS has a fewer carbon number than AOS, it would produce smaller micelles and resulted in more efficient extraction of metals by increased soil contact. Cd extractability of surfactant was twice enhanced by adding NaI as a ligand. However, Pb extractability of surfactant was sometimes reduced by adding NaI. Those ligand effects were dependent on solubility of metal-ligand. The column experiment also showed that SDS having smaller micelles resulted in higher metal extractability than AOS.

  • For the application of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for general illumination, the development of high power LEDs chips became more essential. For these reasons, recently, modified vertical LEDs have been developed to meet various requirements such as better heat dissipation, higher light extraction and less cost of production. In this research, we investigate the effect of Size and Array of N-GaN contact on operation voltage with new structured padless vertical LED. We changed the size and array of N-electrodes and investigated how they affect the operation voltage of LEDs. We simulated the current crowding and expected operation voltage for different N-contact structures with commercial LED simulator. Also, we fabricated the padless vertical LED chips and measured the electrical property. From the simulation, we could know that the larger size and denser array of n-electrodes could make operation voltage decrease. These results are well in accordance with those measured values of real padless vertical LED chips.

  • Many factors should be considered for successful denture treatment at edentulous patients: support, retention, stability, occlusion, esthetics, etc. The patient who has severely absorbed residual ridges, however, treatments are challenging to satisfy those factors. The dentures that use anatomic artificial teeth show good mastication efficiency and esthetics but, can easily lose stability at absorbed ridges. On the contrary, the dentures that use non-anatomic artificial teeth perform better stability but, lower masticatory efficiency and esthetics at absorbed ridges. The lingualized occlusion, using both anatomic and non-anatomic teeth, introduced for compromise those of the pros and cons. At lingualized occlusion, buccal cusps of the teeth do not contact on centric relation. Therefore, direction of the occlusal force towards lingually, then stability of dentures increases. This case report shows the results of the treatment flat residual ridges using complete dentures with ligualized occlusion to increase dentures stability and satisfactory of the patient.

  • The wireless mesh networks are recently getting much attention for commercial applications. In such networks, the service should be uninterrupted when roaming from one domain to another while the authentication for a secure access should be maintained. The challenge is to consider the authentic coordination between the home domain and foreign domains and the maintenance of local authenticity between foreign domains. In this paper, a novel authentication method is presented so that a mobile mesh node can be effectively authenticated and obtain an secure connection in foreign domains. In the proposed method, the authentication process does not rely on an end-to-end connection between the foreign domain and the home domain. Even without a connectivity to the home domain, the foreign domain can provide an effective authentication of a mesh node by consulting one of the neighboring foreign domains that has been visited by the mobile mesh node. In order to verify the performance of our proposed method, a qualitative analysis has been performed and compared to those of conventional methods. The results show that our method is superior to the conventional ones in terms of authentication response time and authentication service robustness.

  • This study is an experimental research on the adsorption capacity and the adsorption system utilizing Discarded Automotive Tires(DAT) and Powdered or Granular Activated Carbon(PAC or GAC) for the removal of heavy metals, Ag(I), Cd(II), Cu(II), Zn(II). Batch shaking test was conducted to determine the adsorption capacity of DA T and PAC in removing the heavy metals from aqueous wastes; and laboratory-scale column experiment was performed to present design factors affecting the optimum design of adsorption column with DAT and GAC, through the concept of Bed Deph/Service Time(BDST). As results, DAT has been proven to be a good adsorbent will its adsorption capacity not falling behind PAC or GAC. Factors affecting heavy metals removals were amount of adsorbents, initial concentrations, pH and so on. BDST equations were compared with values presented by the breakthrough data from adsorption system.

  • Turbine blades and disc, which are one of the most important rotating parts of a gas turbine engine, are required to have highly efficient performance in order to minimize the total life cycle costs. Owing to these requirements, these components are exposed to severe conditions such as extreme turbine inlet temperatures, high compression ratios, and high speeds. To evaluate the structural integrity of a turbine disc under these conditions, material modeling and finite element analysis techniques are essential; furthermore, shape optimization is necessary for determining the optimal solution. This study aims to generate 2D finite element models of an axisymmetry model and a sector one and to perform thermal-structural coupled-field analysis and contact analysis. Structurally vulnerable areas such as the disc bore and disc-blade interface region are analyzed by a parametric study. Finally, an improved design is provided based on the results, and the necessity of elaborate shape optimization is confirmed.

  • Membrane distillation (MD) is a separation process which higher vapor pressure components are evaporated in mixed liquid solution through hydrophobic membrane with 0.1 or $0.5{\mu}m$ pore size. In this study, direct contact membrane distillation process for hollow fiber module were interpreted numerically using the "COMSOL Multiphysics" software. The variables for the system were temperatures and flow rates of lumen and shell side solutions. The permeate flux increased from 1.0 to $3.8L/m^2{\cdot}hr$ as temperature of the feed solution for lumen increased from 30 to $50^{\circ}C$. However the effect of shell solution temperature on permeate flux was relatively low. Also, the optimum velocity of lumen feed was obtained at 0.15 m/s ($Re_L=135$) by considering MD permeate flux as well as operating pressure loss.
