The first priority we face in the conservation of wall paintings, is the conservation of painting layer. The 'painting layer' is sometimes called the pigment layer, and refers to the painted surface. For the consolidation of this painting layer we use 'fixative'. Fixative is a common adhesive which has been used in various field and conservators have made up for the weak points in the consolidation of wall paintings. In my thesis, I will summarise the range of use, standards of selection, and results of research on the use of fixative in the conservation of European paintings. In addition, I will describe various kinds of our traditional fixatives. As synthetic resins have proved that it is not ideal as a fixative for wall painting, conservators have studied to find an alternative. Same as European conservators, Asian scientists has researched to find alternative fixative which is more suitable to the wall paintings in Asia based on their traditional techniques and materials. Therefore, 1 have studied to find an adequate fixative for our own wall paintings and I could conclude that we can consider traditional fixative which is made of 'seaweeds' as an alternative and it is very important to proceed research and experiment on this material.
Objectives: This study examined the effect of the uncured dentin adhesives on the bond interface between the resin inlay and dentin. Materials and Methods: Dentin surface was exposed in 24 extracted human molars and the teeth were assigned to indirect and direct resin restoration group. For indirect resin groups, exposed dentin surfaces were temporized with provisional resin. The provisional restoration was removed after 1 wk and the teeth were divided further into 4 groups which used dentin adhesives (OptiBond FL, Kerr; One-Step, Bisco) with or without light-curing, respectively (Group OB-C, OB-NC, OS-C and OS-NC). Pre-fabricated resin blocks were cemented on the entire surfaces with resin cement. For the direct resin restoration groups, the dentin surfaces were treated with dentin adhesives (Group OB-D and OS-D), followed by restoring composite resin. After 24 hr, the teeth were assigned to microtensile bond strength (${\mu}TBS$) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), respectively. Results: The indirect resin restoration groups showed a lower ${\mu}TBS$ than the direct resin restoration groups. The ${\mu}TBS$ values of the light cured dentin adhesive groups were higher than those of the uncured dentin adhesive groups (p < 0.05). CLSM analysis of the light cured dentin adhesive groups revealed definite and homogenous hybrid layers. However, the uncured dentin adhesive groups showed uncertain or even no hybrid layer. Conclusions: Light-curing of the dentin adhesive prior to the application of the cementing material in luting a resin inlay to dentin resulted in definite, homogenous hybrid layer formation, which may improve the bond strength.

A new 5th generation adhesive system(ONE-STEP) has been supplied which operators can apply to conditioned tooth surfaces by one simplified step. The purpose of this study was to determine whether different methods of adhesive application and various air drying duration after applying adhesive affect the shear bond strength of composite resin to dentin, and to evaluate the adhesive pattern of composite resin and dentin under SEM. Seventy-seven extracted human molar teeth were cleaned and mounted in palstic test tubes. The occlusal dentin surfaces were exposed with Diamond Wheel Saw and smoothed with Lapping and Polishing Machine (South Bay Technology Co., U.S.A.). Teeth were randomly divided into 7 groups (n=11), In experimental A group, adhesive was applied to dentin with agitation for 20 sec. In experimental N-A group, adhesive were continuously applied to dentin for 20 sec. Also control and experimental 1, 2, 3, 4 groups were dried for 10, 0, 5, 20, 30 seconds after applying adhesive, respectively, Adhesives were light cured for 10 sec. A gelatin capsule 5mm in diameter was filled with Aelitefil$^{TM}$ composite resin, placed on the treated dentin surface and light cured for 40 see, from three sides, All specimens were stored in distilled water at room temperature for 24 hours. The shear bond strengths were measured using a universal testing machine(AGS-1000 4D, Japan) at a crosshead speed of 5mm/min. An one-way ANOVA and LSD test were used for statistical analysis of the data. For SEM evaluation, seven specimens were made and sectioned. Representive postfracture and seven specimens were mounted on brass stubs, sputter-coated with gold and observed under SEM. The results were as follows : 1. The shear bond strength of experimental A group which adhesive were applied to dentin with agitation was higher than that of experimental N-A group (continuous application), and there was significant difference between two groups (p<0.01). 2. The interface between composite and dentin according to different application methods showed close adaptation in experimental A group and showed tinny gap in experimental N-A group. 3. The shear bond strength accoding to various air drying duration was the lowest value(7.57${\pm}$2.60 MPa) in experimental 1 group, so there was significant difference between experimental 1 group and other four groups (p<0.05). But there was no significant difference of shear bond strength between four groups (p>0.05). 4. The interface between composite and dentin according to various air drying duration showed close adaptation in control group and tinny gap in experimental 3 and 4 groups. But experimental 1 and 2 groups showed $30{\mu}$ and 6 - $10{\mu}m$ thick gaps, respectively.
Objectives: Rapid polymerization of overlying composite resin causes high polymerization shrinkage stress at the adhesive layer. In order to alleviate the shrinkage stress, increasing the light intensity over the first 5 seconds was suggested as an exponential curing mode by an LED light curing unit (Elipar FreeLight2, 3M ESPE). In this study, the effectiveness of the exponential curing mode on reducing stress was evaluated with measuring microtensile bond strength of three adhesives after the overlying composite resin was polymerized with either continuous or exponential curing mode. Methods: Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus (MP, 3M ESPE), Single Bond 2 (SB, 3M ESPE), and Adper Prompt (AP, 3M ESPE) were applied onto the flat occlusal dentin of extracted human molar. The overlying hybrid composite (Denfil, Vericom, Korea) was cured under one of two exposing modes of the curing unit. At 48h from bonding, microtensile bond strength was measured at a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/min. The fractured surfaces were observed under FE-SEM. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the microtensile bond strengths of each adhesive between curing methods (Two-way ANOVA, p > 0.05). The microtensile bond strengths of MP and SB were significantly higher than that of AP (p < 0.05). Mixed failures were observed in most of the fractured surfaces, and differences in the failure mode were not observed among groups. Conclusion: The exponential curing method had no beneficial effect on the microtensile dentin bond strengths of three adhesives compared to continuous curing method.
Taro-UF mixed type resin system was developed for gluing plywoods. The taro adhesive that was activated with sodium hydroxide was mixed with the definite ratios of UF resin adhesive. At the sametime, wheat-UF mixed type resin was also applied with the same method as taro-UF mixed type resin The mixing ratios of taro or wheat adhesive: UF resin were 0:100, 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, 50:50, 60:40, 80:20, and 100:0 by weight. In addition, the UF resins extended with wheat powder at the extending ratios of wheat powder UF resin, 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, and 50:50 by weight, were also used. The dry and wet shear strengths of the plywoods of 30:70 (taro adhesive : UF resin) mixing ratio were highest. The dry shear strengths of the plywoods manufactured with the UF resin-mixing taro adhesive were higher than those of the plywoods with the UF resin-mixing wheat adhesive at 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, 50:50, and 60:40 (taro or wheat adhesive: UF resin) mixing ratios. At all mixing ratios, the wet shear strengths of the plywoods manufactured with the UF resin-mixing taro adhesive were higher than those of the plywoods with the UF resin-mixing wheat adhesive. The dry and wet shear strengths of the plywoods manufactured with the UF resin-mixing wheat adhesive were higher than those of the plywoods with the wheat powder-extending UF resin at the mixmg ratios, 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, and 40:60 (wheat adhesive or wheat powder: UF resin). So, it was found that the plywoods manufactured with the UF resin-mixing taro adhesive and the UF resin mixing wheat adhesive had better shear strength than the plywoods with the wheat powder-extending UF resin. It was because the taro adhesive and wheat adhesive themselves took the bonding properties after being activated with alkali.
In this paper, we investigated the application method and properties of 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm beads, which can secure a certain thickness due to the molding stability of joint surfaces of different materials (aluminum and composite). In order to verify this, the influence was evaluated according to the thickness of the adhesive in the Double lap test and the FEM simulation. As a result, it was confirmed that as the content of the bead of the adhesive increased more than 1%, the strength of the adhesion increased and the elongation decreased. We confirmed as the size of the bead became larger, the rigidity became lower and the elongation increased.
Most of the libraries and archives that lacks conservation lab facilities, frequently apply common synthetic resin adhesives such as PVAc group(Pa), acrylic group(Ac) and PVP group(Pv) on simple repairs. The archival quality synthetic adhesive(Pa-1) that is used at the National Library of Korea and the common synthetic resin adhesives were selected for the experiments. Accelerated aging test was applied on the adhesive samples and change of the pH and chromaticity were measured for one month. As the result of the pH mesurments, Pa-1 and Ac-2 were at the acceptable pH range. As the result of the chromaticity mesurments, degree of yellowing(${\Delta}b^*$) showed smaller change to greater change in the following order; Pa-1

Composite resin has been widely used for eroded enamel. But, as there have been many reports about the differences in physicochemical characteristics of eroded enamel compared with sound enamel, an additional effort was thought necessary to obtain the optimal bond strength. As a possible answer, we came to think about the application of infiltrant resin which is known to have an excellent penetration capacity into enamel. This study was performed for the purpose of comparing the bond strength of composite restoration with or without infiltrant resin under adhesives on the artificially eroded enamel. 60 extracted sound maxillary primary incisors were selected and divided into group 1, 2, 3 according to the number of artificial erosion cycling for 5 minute duration in 1% citric acid of pH 3.2 at $37^{\circ}C$. And the labial surfaces were divided into 3 areas; group A, only resin adhesive was used, group I, only infiltrant resin, group IA, infiltrant resin followed by resin adhesive. Afterwards, every specimen was restored with composite resin. Microtensile bond strength was measured and failure modes were observed. The obtained results were as follows: 1. In comparing the bond strength by the degree of enamel erosion, it was revealed the highest bond strength in group 1, followed by group 2 and 3, showing the lowest bond strength in most eroded group(p<0.05). 2. In comparing the bond strength by surface treatment methods, group IA and I showed higher value than group A(p<0.05), with unsignificant difference between group I and IA(p>0.05). 3. In observation of failure mode, it was shown higher frequency of cohesive failure in order of 1-2-3 and IA-I-A. Conclusively, it was shown decreasing tendency of bond strength as the enamel is more eroded, and infiltrant resin was thought helpful to replace or add to the resin adhesive for optimal bonding with eroded enamel.

The objective of this study is to investigate appropriate bonding methods of solar cells in order to apply solar cells, which have been receiving particular attention as a renewable energy due to fossil energy depletion and environment issues, to composite structures. Back-contact solar cells with approximately 24.2% energy conversion efficiency were used in this study. Since silicon-based solar cells are mechanically fragile, the secondary-bonding methods using adhesive were examined in this study. The experiment was conducted with three kinds of bonding materials such as EVA film, Resin film and elastic adhesive. The performance of solar cells for three types of adhesives under mechanical loading on test specimens is conducted. In addition, the measuring equipment was designed to evaluate the performance of the solar cells under mechanical loading in real time and the fracture characteristics depending on bonding materials were evaluated. The reason decreasing solar cells efficiency were analyzed and considered by Fractography. The results show that the solar cell performance is largely affected by bonding techniques. Moreover, the bonding method using elastic adhesive shows best solar cell efficiency.
