An experimental investigation of flow characteristics in the tangential and the multi-stage spiral inlets (접선식 및 다단식 나선 유입구 흐름 특성의 실험적 연구)

  • The vulnerability of urban disasters is increased with the rapid urbanization and industrialization, and the extreme rainfall event is increased due to the global climate change. Urban inundation is also increased due to the extreme rainfall event beyond the capacity limit of facility for the damage prevention. The underground detention vault and the underground drain tunnel are rapidly being utilized to prevent urban inundation. Therefore, the hydraulic review and design analysis of the inlet of the underground facility are important. In this study, the water level of the approach flow according to the inflow discharge is measured and the flow characteristic of the inlet (tangential and spiral) is analyzed. For the spiral inlet, the multi-stage is introduced at the bottom of the inlet to improve the inducing vortex flow at low discharge conditions. In case of the tangential inlet, the discharging efficiency is decreased rapidly with hydraulic jump in the high flow discharge. The rising ratio of the water level in the multi-stage spiral inlet is higher than the tangential inlet, but the stable discharging efficiency is maintained at low and high discharge conditions. And the empirical formula of water level-flow discharge is derived in order to utilize inlets used in this study.

Experimental study of the air emission effect in the tangential and the multi-stage spiral inlet (접선식 유입구와 다단식 나선 유입구의 공기 배출 효과에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Recently, urban inundation was frequently occurred due to the intensive rainfall exceeding marginal capacity of the flood control facility. Furthermore, needs for the underground storage facilities to mitigate urban flood are increasing according to rapidly accelerating urbanization. Thus, in this study, drainage efficiency in drain tunnel connecting to underground storage was investigated from the air-core measurements in the drop shaft against two types of inlet structure. In case of the spiral inlet, the multi-stage structure is introduced at the bottom of the inlet to improve the vortex induction effect at low inflow discharge (multi-stage spiral inlet). The average cross-sectional area of the air-core in the multi-stage spiral inlet is 10% larger than the tangential inlet, and show the highly air emission effect and the highly inflow efficiency at the high inflow discharge. In case of the tangential inlets, the air emission effect decreased after exceeding the maximum inflow discharge, which is required to maintain the inherent performance of the tangential inlet. From the measurements, the empirical formula for the cross-sectional area of the air-core according to locations inside the drop shaft was proposed in order to provide the experimental data available for the inlet model used in experiments.

  • Recently the interest about the vortex intakes are rapidly increased because of its performance to drain a plenty of collected storm water at a time. The tangential intake a kind of vortex intakes is very applicable because this type is very simple and little against other types, but it has a big weakness that the vortex flow is not been rarely created below the design discharge. In this study, the characteristics of a tangential intake and two kinds of a newly suggested compound section type intake are analyzed by the 3D numerical modeling based on theories about the control shift and free drainage condition. The analysis focused on the flow condition, flow surface formation, depth-discharge relation, area ratio of air core. Based on this study, the mild-sloped compound section type intake is the optimal, but steep-sloped compound section type is also the optional for the small design discharge.

Effect of Swirl Injector with Multi-Stage Tangential Entry on Acoustic Damping in Liquid Rocket Engine (액체로켓에서 다단 접선 유입구를 갖는 스월인젝터의 음향학적 감쇠기능)

  • Swirl injector with multi-stage tangential entry was analyzed to suppress high-frequency combustion instability in Liquid Rocket Engines. In order to analyze the effect of swirl injector as an acoustic absorber, swirl injector was regarded as a quarter-wave resonator and it's damping capacity is verified in atmospheric temperature. It has a finite mode of vibration and natural frequencies which can be tuned to the natural frequencies of a model combustion chamber. The interior air core shape of injector is more stable in the case of using the swirl injector with multi-stage entry than with single-stage entry. Also, when the swirl injector with multi-stage entry is used, tuned-injector length for unstable mode is well agreed with the calculated length. From the experimental data, it is proved that if the interior air core shape of swirl injector is stable, the fine tuned swirl injector can decrease the unstable mode of model chamber effectively and increase the damping rate.

  • A new type baghouse with tangential inlet and inner tube was developed and it's performances were evaluated. Experiments with variable shapes of inner tube were performed to suggest an optimum shape of inner tube which might decrease the dust loading onto bag filter surface and the amount of reentrained particles by internal gas flow. The dust loading was lower when inner tubes parallel to outer casing exist. When an inner tube covering around the lower portion of bag filters was used, the dust particles detached from the filter surface by cleaning process were reentraind by internal recirculating gas flow.

  • This paper describes the development of new sweeping machine based on Cyclone Technology, which maintains constant suction power and uses it in a industrial applications as a method for dust removed from grinding work. The performance of a cyclone separator is determined by the turbulence characteristics and particle-particle interaction. To achieve this goal, we design cyclone technology based dust separator for sweeping machine has been proposed as a system which is suitable to work utilizing dust suction alternative to conventional manual system. and Numerical analysis with computational fluid dynamics(CFD) was carried out to investigate the working fluid that flow into cyclone dust separator in order to design optimal structure of the sweeping machine. The validation of cyclone model with CFD is carried out by comparing with experimental results.

  • 국지성 집중호우에 따른 도심지 내수 침수 피해의 주원인으로 하수관거의 설계기준을 초과하는 강우가 침수피해의 주요 원인이며, 도심화로 인해 불투수 면적이 증가함에 따라 유출되는 시간이 짧아 저지대의 피해는 불가피하다. 2010년과 2011년에 100년 이상의 강우사상이 서울시에 연이어 나타나면서 집중호우로 인한 피해지역이 유사하게 나타났으며, 광화문 거리의 연이은 침수는 현재 서울시의 하수관거의 용량과 빗물펌프장 및 저류조 시설로 구성된 기존 수방대책의 한계점을 보이고 있다. 이에 서울시는 광화문 일대의 배수능력을 향상시키기 위하여 효자배수분구 빗물배수터널을 계획하고 있다. 일본, 미국 및 유럽 등지에서는 대심도 지하수로 시설에 대한 수리실험 및 수치 연구를 바탕으로 다양한 지하방수로가 건설되어 국지성 집중 강우에 대해 적절히 대응하고 있으나, 국내의 경우에는 대심도 지하방수로 시설에 대한 연구가 미비하여 지하방수로 설계 지침 및 기술적 자료가 부족한 실정이다. 그러므로 대심도 빗물배수터널 시설에서의 흐름특성 분석에 관한 수리실험 및 수치해석 등의 구체적인 연구가 필요하다고 판단된다. 본 연구에서는 수리모형 실험의 물질적 및 시간적 한계를 극복하기 위하여 일반적으로 3차원 유체거동의 특성분석에 많이 사용되는 Fluent 6.3 모형을 이용하여 대심도 빗물배수터널 시설의 접선식 유입구에 대한 흐름특성을 수치모의 하였다. 접선식 유입구 및 수직갱(drop shaft)에 대한 기하 모형의 격자망은 수치해석의 안정성 확보를 위하여 그림 1과 같이 6면체 격자로 구성하였다. 맨홀 내의 다상유동을 고려하기 위하여 VOF(Volume of Fluid) Scheme을 적용하였으며, 수치해석 방법으로는 비정상류, 1st order implicit method를 사용하였다. Fluent에서의 난류 흐름을 계산하는 방법에는 난류 운동에너지와 난류 에너지 소산율 $\epsilon$의 전달 방정식을 도입한 k-$\epsilon$ 난류 모형을 채택하였다.

  • 여과포 표면상에 도달하는 입자의 농토를 낮추거나 균일하게 유지시킬 경우, 부착된 입자층 두께의 성장으로 인한 압력손실의 증가율을 줄일 수 있고 이로 인하여 탈진 주기 또한 감소시킬 수 있다. 탈진조작의 저감으로 인하여 여과포의 수명 증대로 여과포의 교체 시기를 연장시킬 수 있으므로 여과포 집진장치의 운전 및 유지 보수비의 저감을 이룰 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 집진용기의 중간부분에 위치한 접선 유입관을 통하여 오염입자를 함유한 기체유동을 유입시킨 후, 원심력과 난류확산에 의하여 집진용기 내벽과 내통(inner tube) 벽면에 부착된 입자는 중력에 의하여 용기 바닥으로 모인 후 바닥면에 설치된 스크래퍼(scraper)를 통하여 분리 처리될 수 있는 새로운 형상의 집진장치를 개발하고자 하였다.   • Swirling flows inside a swirl mixing chamber are investigated for simple configuration where swirl is produced by a tangential entry type swirl generator. The flow downstream of the swirl generator has been quantified by measurements two velocity components and their corresponding mean values along axial and radial direction using Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV). The mass flow rate of the tangential entry is increased in order to study their effect on the flow field. From the measurement profile of velocity and vorticity, flow mixing characteristics in a swirl mixing chamber are evaluated.
