  • Recently, the projects which are to increase the capacity of the flood control are being actively performed because of the abnormal climate changes throughout the country. In this study, the regression analysis was performed using both Kelvin model and the real settlement measured at the crest of the existing concrete face rockfill dam(CFRD) to estimate the long-term deformation behavior characteristics such as creep which occurs without additional load. In addition, the effects on changes in physical properties (E, G, K) of the dam construction materials by deformation characteristics of the dam were evaluated, and the reasonable stability analysis method of the dam was proposed to obtain the long-term stability considering the changes in physical properties induced by the long-term deformation behavior in case of heightening the existing dams.

  • The most important elements in flexible pavement design criteria are stress and strain distributions. To obtain reasonable stress and strain distributions in pavements, moving wheel loads must be applied to analyze the pavement responses. In this study, finite element analysis was used to identify the three-dimensional states using the vehicle load into a constant-position / time-variable load (25, 50 and 80km/hr). In an elastic system, the strain is the same in both longitudinal and transverse directions under a single wheel. However, the same is not necessary in a viscoelastic system. Test results showed that the maximum values between transverse and longitudinal strains the bottom of asphalt concrete base layers under 25km/hr were were about 40 percent.

  • Asphalt pavement tends to rut in high temperature and to crack in cold temperature. The performance of asphalt pavement can be deteriorated by korean weather condition which has the four distinct seasons. In this study, the typical sections that may minimize rutting and fatigue were analyzed through the numerical model tests. The layered elastic theory , finite element method and visco elastic theory were utilized for these numerical model tests. From the various numerical model tests, it is found that an optimum design procedure was recommended. It was increasing the thickness of asphalt stabilized base with fixing the wearing course as 5cm the minimum specified thickness. The section was most beneficial in resting rutting and fatigue. From the analysis of the relative index on tensile strain and cost analysis, it was recommended that the thickness ratio of subbase and asphalt concrete is 1.0$\sim$2.5.

  • Cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) based on wood pulp fibers are gained much attention as part of biocompatible hydrogels for biomedical applications such as tissue engineering scaffolds, biomedicine, and drug carrier. However, CNF hydrogels have relatively poor mechanical properties, impeding their applications requiring high mechanical integrity. In this work, we prepare 2,2,6,6-tetramethylipiperidin-oxyl (TEMPO) oxidated cellulose nanofibrils hydrogels mediated with metal cations, which form the metal-carboxylate coordination bonds for enhanced mechanical strength and toughness. We conduct the large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) test and Live/dead cell assay for obtaining nonlinear viscoelastic parameters and cell viability, respectively. In particular, the cell proliferation and viability change depending on the type of metal salt, which also affected the rheological properties of the hydrogels.

  • To measure elastic properties of semiconducting materials in power cable, we have investigated modulus of EVA/acetylene black composite showed by changing the content of acetylene black. The specimen was primarily kneaded in material samples of pellet form for 5 minutes on rollers ranging between 70[$^{\circ}C$] and 100[$^{\circ}C$]. Then this was produced as sheets after pressing for 20 minutes at 180[$^{\circ}C$] with a pressure of 200[kg/cm]. The contents of conductive acetylene black were 20, 30 and 40[wt%], respectively. The modulus experiment was measured by DMA 2980. The ranges of measurement temperature were from -50[$^{\circ}C$] to 100[$^{\circ}C$] and measurement frequency is 1[Hz]. The modulus of specimens was increased according to an increment of acetylene black content. And modulus was rapidly decreased at the glass transition temperature. The tan$\delta$ of specimens was decreased according to an increment of acetylene black content.

  • A single frequency strain mode test, a stress relaxation mode test, and a creep test using RH-DMA were performed to investigate the effects of relative humidity and temperature on the viscous properties of PET film. The relative humidity was 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 90%. The temperature was considered to be 30~95℃ for single frequency strain mode tests, 30℃ and 70℃ for stress relaxation mode test, and 5~95℃ for creep test. According to the results, higher relative humidity results in lower storage modulus and loss modulus, but the maximum value of the loss modulus is not significantly affected by changes in relative humidity and is almost constant. Relaxation modulus decreases rapidly at the beginning and becomes constant, and as the temperature increases, it is susceptible to changes in relative humidity. Strain recovery also increases rapidly at the beginning and is susceptible to changes in relative humidity as the temperature increases. In addition, as the temperature increases, the degree of increase in creep compliance increases, and as the temperature rises above the glass transfer temperature, the degree of increase becomes very large. The master curve determined by the time-temperature superposition provides the information to predict the long-term performance under operating conditions such as relative humidity and temperature.

  • The aim of this study was to develop a method for measuring the slumping resistance of resin composites and to relate it to the rheological characteristics. Five commercial hybrid composites (Z100, Z250, DenFil, Tetric Ceram, ClearFil) and a nanofill composite (Z350) were used to make disc-shaped specimens of 2 mm thickness. An aluminum mold with square shaped cutting surface was pressed onto the composite discs to make standardized imprints. The imprints were light-cured either immediately (non-slumped) or after waiting for 3 minutes at $25{\circ}C$ (slumped). White stone replicas were made and then scanned for topography using a laser 3-D profilometer. Slumping resistance index (SRI) was defined as the ratio of the groove depth of the slumped specimen to that of the nonslumped specimen. The pre-cure viscoelasticity of each composite was evaluated by an oscillatory shear test and normal stress was measured by a squeeze test using a rheometer. Flow test was also performed using a flow tester. Correlation analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between the viscoelastic properties and the SRI. SRI varied between the six materials (Z100 < DenFil < Z250 < ClearFil < Tetric Ceram < Z350). The SRI was strongly correlated with the viscous (loss) shear modulus G' but not with the loss tangent. Also, slumping resistance was more closely related to the resistance to shear flow than to the normal stress. Slumping tendency could be quantified using the imprint method and SRI. The index may be applicable to evaluate the clinical handling characteristics of composites.
