The dynamic moduli of asphalt concrete are very important for the analysis and the design of asphalt pavement systems. The dynamic modulus master curve is usually represented by a sigmoidal function. The Ramberg-Osgood model was widely used for fitting of normalized modulus reduction curves with strain of soils in soil dynamic fields. The master curves were obtained by both sigmoidal functions and modified Ramberg-Osgood model for the same dynamic modulus data set, the fitting abilities of both methods were excellent. The coefficients in sigmoidal function are coupled. Therefore, it is not possible to separate the characteristics of the master curve with absolute value and shape. However, the each fitting coefficient in the Ramberg-Osgood model has a unique effect on the master curve, and the coefficients are not coupled with each other.

Emission characteristics of major offensive odorants were investigated using odor samples collected from two urban stormwater catch basins with highly contrasting environmental conditions. A total of 6 major offensive odorants ($H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, DMDS, $CH_3CHO$ (AA), and $NH_3$) were measured. For this comparative analysis, odor intensity (OI) of all odorants was derived from their concentration data via empirical equations introduced by Nagata. Both the absolute magnitude of odorant concentrations and their OI values were used concurrently to evaluate the occurrence pattern of each individual odorant. According to our analysis, RSCs including $CH_3SH$, $H_2S$, and DMS tend to exhibit the highest odor strengths among all 6 compounds investigated. The overall results of our study suggest that the emissions of major offensive odorants from urban stormwater catch brains can be explained at least partially by the temporal trend of human activity.
This study analyzed empirically the same data through SPSS statistic(regression analysis) and AMOS program(structural equation model) used for cause and effect analysis. The result of empirical analysis was as follows. The different outcome of coefficients and p-values were deducted. Especially, in the mediated effect testing, meanwhile, SPSS statistic(regression analysis) pictured mediated effect, AMOS program(structural equation model) did not picture mediated effect on the reject zone of null hypothesis(absolute t-value and C.R.-value were nearby 1.96). Eventually, this study showed that what program used determined the outcomes of coefficients and p-values(In particular, the outcomes were differentiated further in the increasing measurement error) though using the same data.
We have studied effects of annular phase apodizer and bump shapes on the read-out signal in an optical disc system, using scalar diffraction theory. In order to detennine the optimum parameters of annular phase apodizer which will minimize the influence of spherical aberration, we defined WR as the ratio between the maximum wavefront aberration and some absolute value of wavefront aberration at any position r in the pupil. A cylindric bump, a semi-conic bump and a conic bump were$.$ also considered as different types of bump shape. As the radius and shape of bump varies, the read-out signal from an optical disc system with an annular phase apodizer was similar to that from an optical disc system without apodizer. When spherical aberration increases, the maximum read-out signal of an optical disc system with an annular phase apodizer and minimum bump radii giving read-out signal higher than 0.6 rarely varied. Especially, the optimum parameters at $W_R$ = 0.4 , 0.6 gave the most compensated effect of a spherical aberration.ration.
We measured shear viscosity of copoly(styrene(St)/butyl methacrylate(BMA)) (co-PSB) particles, with a capillary rheometer at $170^{\circ}C$, prepared by suspension polymerization with hydrophobic silica as a stabilizer. co-PSB particles with the weight average molecular weights of lower than 74,800 g/mol displayed a Newtonian behavior at low shear rates. With the weight average molecular weight exceeding 136,800 g/mol, co-PSB particles showed shear thinning against shear rates and the absolute value of the slopes between shear viscosity vs. shear rate increased. When the ratio between St and BMA changed from 7/3 to 5/5 to 3/7, shear viscosity and glass transition decreased despite similar molecular weights. When the ratio was 1/9, it showed a large increase in initial shear viscosity despite reduced glass transition. Shear viscosity exhibited an increase in proportion to carbon black concentration. The effect of carbon black concentration on the shear viscosity of co-PSB composites was less pronounced compared to varying molecular weights and/or compositional ratio.

Background: A skin temperature difference is one of the variables used in the diagnosis of complex regional pain syndrome. However, there have been no reports as to whether the real (${\Delta}T$) or absolute value ($|{\Delta}T|$) of skin temperature differences should be used in the diagnosis of complex regional pain syndrome. This study was conducted to compare the diagnostic validity of ${\Delta}T$ with $|{\Delta}T|$ for complex regional pain syndrome using receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC). Methods: Infrared thermographic images were obtained from the 144 patients who were suspected to have CRPS in a unilateral limb. After ${\Delta}T$ and $|{\Delta}T|$ calculation from the thermographic image, ROCs of ${\Delta}T$ and $|{\Delta}T|$ were developed, and the areas under the curve (AUC) for the ROC curves were compared. Results: AUCs of ${\Delta}T$ and $|{\Delta}T|$ were 0.520 and 0.746 respectively, this difference was statistically significant (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Absolute skin temperature difference shows greater validity in the diagnosis of CRPS than ${\Delta}T$. Therefore, $|{\Delta}T|$ is more useful when comparing the skin temperature of CRPS patients.

True motion estimation is necessary for deinterlacing, frame-rate conversion, and film judder compensation. There have been several block-based approaches to find true motion vectors by tracing minimum sum-of-absolute-difference (SAD) values by considering spatial and temporal consistency. However, the algorithms cannot find robust motion vectors when the texture of objects is changed. To find the robust motion vectors in the region, a recursive vector selection scheme and an adaptive weighting parameter are proposed. Previous frame vectors are recursively averaged to be utilized for motion error region. The weighting parameter controls fidelity to input vectors and the recursively averaged ones, where the input vectors come from the conventional estimators. If the input vectors are not reliable, then the mean vectors of the previous frame are used for temporal consistency. Experimental results show more robust motion vectors than those of the conventional methods in time-varying texture objects.

Extensive computer simulations to account for the randomness in the process of seismic demand estimation have been a serious obstacle to the adoption of probabilistic performance assessments for the decision of applying seismic intervention schemes. In this study, a method for rapid fragility assessments based on a response database and the fragility contour method are presented. By the comparison of response contours in different formats, it is shown that representing maximum responses in ductility demand is better for the investigation of the effect of structural parameter changes on seismic demands than representations in absolute values. The presented fragility contour enables designers to practically investigate the probabilistic performance level of every possible retrofit option in a convenient manner using visualized data sets. This example demonstrates the extreme efficiency of the proposed approach in performing fragility assessments and successful application to the seismic retrofit strategies based on limit state probabilities.
We perform the frequency-domain waveform inversion based on the residual-selection strategy. In the residual-selection strategy, we classify time-domain residual wavefields into several groups according to the order of absolute amplitudes. Because the residual wavefields are normalized after regularization of the gradient directions within each group, the residual-selection strategy plays a role in enhancing the small-amplitude wavefields, which contributes to improving the deep parts of inverted subsurface images. After classifying residuals in the time domain, they are transformed to the frequency domain. Waveform inversion is performed in the frequency domain using the back-propagation technique which has been popularly used in reverse-time migration. The residual-selection strategy is applied to the SEG/EAGE salt and IFP Marmousi models. Numerical results show that the residual-selection strategy yields better results than the conventional frequency-domain waveform inversion.
