Statistical Characteristics of Recent Lightning Occurred over South Korea (최근 남한지역에서 발생한 낙뢰의 통계적 특성)

  • Lightning data, observed from total lightning detection system (TLDS) of KMA, for the recent five years (2002-2006) have been analyzed for temporal and spatial characteristics of frequency, intensity, duration, and flash rate. Lightning frequency varies largely with years (most frequent in 2006) and the lightning during the summer accounts for 75% of total flashes and only 0.6% of lightnings strike in cold season. In rainy season (JJAS), the ratio of positive flashes to negative ones is as low as 0.15, but it increases up to 0.98 in February. The seasonal variation of lightning duration is strongly linked with lightning occurrences, whereas flashes rates show weak seasonal variability. In a daily scale, lightning, on average, occurs more often at dawn (2 am, 5-7 am) and in the mid-afternoon (15 pm), and the lightning at dawn (around 5 am) is most intense during the day. The western inland areas md the West/South Sea show high lightning density during JJAS, whereas eastern part and the East Sea exhibit a low density of lightning. Considering the low ratio of positive flashes (0.15) for the whole analysis domain during summer period, Chungnam and Jeonbuk areas have a high ratio of flashes over 0.4. However, these should be analyzed with much caution because weak positive cloud-to-cloud discharges can be regarded as cloud-to-ground flashes. The western inland also exhibits long annual flash hours (15-24). And the W3st Sea has high flash rates as a result of large density and low flash hours. The most frequent time of lightning occurrence over most inland areas lies between mid-afternoon and early-evening, whereas mountainous and coastal areas, and the northern Kyoungki and Hwanghae provinces show the maximum lightning strikes in the morning and at dawn, respectively.

Issues of Learner-Centered Studio Classes in Landscape Architectural Education (조경교육에 있어 학습자 중심 스튜디오 수업의 쟁점)

  • The knowledge-based society of the 21st century requires a new kind of professional. Studio education has been the core pedagogical method to bridge the practical world and higher education in the field of landscape architecture. However, it is questioned whether studio classes have truly been performed from the learners' perspectives to solidify the competencies to meet the demands of the changing society. This study tries to draw key issues related to studio pedagogy in order to make a foundation for the improvement of studio classes in landscape architectural education. Five issues regarding landscape architectural studio education have been suggested through the literature review of three categories: the core competencies required for the future professionals, the pedagogical paradigm shift, and the changes along the evolution of landscape professions and curricula. The first issue is suggested as to approach the competencies from the holistic and systematic approach to define landscape architectural professionals for the 21st century. Second, studio classes should be redefined in the context of an entire curriculum, and, as a consequence, the linkage among the individual courses is found to be important. Third, design studio classes need to be restructured to have differentiated pedagogical objectives for the development of the learning phase. Fourth, it becomes crucial to research the pedagogical methodology and the reflective actions of instructors. Finally, it is required to think about what it means to be practical in the context of studio classes and the enhancement of educational infrastructure for the studio classes is to be important.

Pesticide exposure of alpine agricultural workers in Gangwon-do and the measurement of their health status measured by SF-12 (강원도 고랭지 농업인의 농약 노출 및 SF-12를 이용한 건강수준 측정)

  • The development of agricultural technology makes the increasement of pesticide usage. The results of pesticide usage were the increment of agricultural outcomes, but the health hazard was increasing also. Especially, alpine agriculture needs more pesticide than general agriculture and they suffered from more pesticide induced health symptoms. There were no study about the pesticide usage and subjective health status. So, this study was performed to investigate the relationship between pesticide usage and health status. The health status was measured by SF-12. SF-12 was well known health status measurement tool. SF-12 have two components, which were mental component score and physical component score. As a results of analysis, the alpine agricultural workers had higher pesticide exposure index and acute symptom score. As the results of multivariate analysis, physical component score was affected by pesticide exposure, but mental component score was not. Although, this study has many limitations, the result of this study can suggest the need of political advise and the further study.

Effect of Lumbar Epidural Nerve Block using the Transforamimnal Approach and the Interlaminar Approach on Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings (추간공 접근법과 추궁간판 접근법을 사용한 요부 경막외 신경차단술이 자기공명영상 소견에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the differences in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings after lumbar epidural nerve block using the transforaminal approach and the interlaminar approach in patients with low back pain. This study was an observational analysis study of abnormal findings of MRI after epidural nerve block. This study included 78 patients who underwent MRI at approximately 24 h after lumbar epidural nerve block at a pain clinic of a university hospital between January 2007 and December 2016. Among patients who received epidural nerve block, 36 used the interlaminar approach and 42 used the transforaminal approach. The incidence of patients with abnormal changes in MRI findings was higher among patients using the interlaminar approach (53%) than those using the transforaminal approach (7%). Abnormal MRI findings included epidural air or fluid, needle tracks, and soft tissue changes, with epidural air being the most frequent abnormal finding (72%). We recommend use of the transforaminal approach to reduce the possibility of misreading or difficulty in interpretation of images of patients who underwent MRI at approximately 24 h after lumbar epidural nerve block. Practitioners should consider the possibility of abnormal findings such as epidural air on MRI in cases of epidural nerve block using the interlaminar approach.

Water-Level Fluctuation due to Groundwater-Surface Water Interaction in Coastal Aquifers (해안대수층에서 지하수-지표수 상호작용에 의한 지하수위 변화)

  • Analysis of water-level fluctuation due to goundwater-surface water interaction in coastal aquifers is carried out by numerical modeling. The conceptual model used in this study has a stream boundary and a tidal boundary that forms a right angle and the stream partially penetrates the aquifer. We analyzed the effect of each boundary and the simultaneous effect of the two boundary conditions. The area of influence caused by the stream boundary increased during the simulation, while the influence zone of the coastal boundary was relatively constant. The groundwater level near the zone where two boundaries meet may rise by the action of combined effect of the two boundaries or may not change by cancelling the effect of each boundary. Thereafter, care must be taken when hydraulic parameters are estimated using sinusoidal oscillations of hydraulic head in coastal aquifers. Sensitivity analysis is employed to develop insight into the controls on groundwater level fluctuations. In this study our analyses focused on the effect of conductance and the stream width to the aquifer nearby.

  • 1. 서론 : 팔라듐이나 이의 합금막들은 높은 선택적 투과특성으로 인해 수소 정제나 분리막 반응기와 같은 산업응용 분야에서 매우 높은 관심을 갖고 있다. 상업적으로 이용되고 있는 이러한 막들은 통상적인 metallugical process에 의해 제조괸 self-supported type으로 수소 투과 속도가 낮을 뿐만 아니라 팔라듐 등은 고가의 귀금속이므로 비경제적이다. 따라서 현재 대부분의 연구자들은 기계적 강도를 유지하기 의한 다공성 지지체 위에 얇은 금속 박막을 코팅함으로서 투과성을 높이는 동시에 경제적인 복합막 형태의 막을 만드는데 연구의 촛점을 맞추고 있다. 이러한 형태의 막을 제조하기 위한 금속 박막 제조법은 무전해 도금법(electroless deposition), 화학증착법(CVD), 스퍼터링(sputtering), 전해도금법(electrodeposition) 등이 시도되었다. 그러나 수소에 대한 우수한 선택적 투과 특성을 갖기 의해서는 대부분 5$\mu$m 이상의 두꺼운 막을 제조하였으며 이보다 얇은 막의 제조에 한계가 있기 때문에 이들 막에 대한 기체 투과 특성에 대한 연구결과는 많지 않다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 전기도금법을 응용한 소위 'vacuum electrodeposition' 이란 새로운 기술을 도입함으로써 우수한 선택적 투과성을 갖는 2$\mu$m 이하의 팔라듐 합금 박막 제조를 가능하게 하였다. 지지체 표면의 거칠음 정도, 평균 기공 크기 등의 지지체 성질의 조절에 의한 금속 박막의 핀홀을 최소화함으로써 질소와 같은 inert gas의 투과도는 거의 없게 유지하는 동시에 금속 박막 두께, 결정 구조(e.g. grain size), 합금 조성 등을 조절함으로써 수소의 투과도를 높이고자 하였다. 있다. 후자의 경우, 미량의 과산화수소수 (1~10,000 ppm)를 이용해 처리 해주는 방법의 경우 경제적으로 큰 장점이 있고, 처리가 단순하다는 장점이 있으나 과산화수소수 자체에 포함하고 있는 높은 impurit level, 그리고 처리후 장시간의 flushing time을 가져야 한다는 단점등이 존재 하고 있다.요구된다. 몰입이 가능하여 임계치가 저하된 것으로 여겨진다. 또한 광학적 이득의 존재는 이 구조에 의한 극단파장 반도체 레이저다이오드의 실현 가능성을 나타내는 것이다.548 mL에 비해 통계학적으로 의의 있게 적었다(p<0.05). 결론: 관상동맥우회로 조성수술에서 전방온혈심정지액을 사용할 때 희석되지 많은 고농도 포타슘은 fliud overload와 수혈을 피하고 delivery kit를 사용하지 않음으로써 효과적이고 만족할 만한 심근보호 효과를 보였다.를 보였다.4주까지에서는 비교적 폐포는 정상적 구조를 유지하면서 부분적으로 소폐동맥 중막의 비후와 간질에 호산구 침윤의 소견이 특징적으로 관찰되었다. 결론: 분리 폐 관류는 정맥주입 방법에 비해 고농도의 cisplatin 투여로 인한 다른 장기에서의 농도 증가 없이 폐 조직에 약 50배 정도의 고농도 cisplatin을 투여할 수 있었으며, 또한 분리 폐 관류 시 cisplatin에 의한 직접적 폐 독성은 발견되지 않았다이 낮았으나 통계학적 의의는 없었다[10.0%(4/40) : 8.2%(20/244), p>0.05]. 결론: 비디오흉강경술에서 재발을 낮추기 위해 수술시 폐야 전체를 관찰하여 존재하는 폐기포를 놓치지 않는 것이 중요하며, 폐기포를 확인하지 못한 경우와 이차성 자연기흉에 대해서는 흉막유착술에 더 세심한 주의가 필요하다는 것을 확인하였다. 비디오흉강경수술

Agronomic Characteristics and Anti-oxidant Capacity of Mulberry Genetic Resources conserved by Jeollabuk-Do (전라북도 뽕나무 유전자원의 재배생태적 특성 및 항산화능 분석)

  • This study was carried out to develop the utilization of mulberry resources conserved by Jeollabuk-Do Agricultural Research & Extension Services. Mulberry accessions were tested for agronomic characteristics and antioxidant capacity according to varieties. From that result, three suitable varieties such as 'Sinilppong', 'Suwonsang 2' and 'Ilbongeum' were selected for the production of mulberry leaves. They have strong agronomic characteristics like size, yield and resistance against damages by blight and harmful insects. Whereas, 'Gumunyoung' showed the lowest freezing resistance. In the antioxidant capacity analysis of mulberry leaves, autumn's mulberry leaves showed higher antioxidant capacity (ascorbic acid equivalent) than that of spring's it. According to collection time, antioxidant capacity were 2,109.8 nmol (August), 2,617.8 nmol (September) and 3,311.5 nmol (October), respectively.

Analysis of Elderly Drivers' Accident Models Considering Operations and Physical Characteristics (고령운전자 운전 및 신체특성을 반영한 교통사고 분석 연구)

  • The number of traffic accidents caused by elderly drivers over the age of 65 has surged over the past ten years from 37,000 to 274,000 cases. The proportion of elderly drivers' accidents has jumped 3.1 times from 1.2% to 3.7% out of all traffic accidents, and traffic safety organizations are pursuing diverse measures to address the situation. Above all, connecting safety measures with an in-depth research on behavioral and physical characteristics of elderly drivers will prove vital. This study conducted an empirical research linking the driving characteristics and traffic accidents by elderly drivers based on the Driving Aptitude Test items and traffic accident data, which enabled the measurement of behavioral characteristics of elderly drivers. In developing the Influence Model, we applied the zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) regression model and selected an accident prediction model based on the Bayesian Influence in regards to the ZIP regression model and the zero-inflated negative binomial (ZINB) regression model. According to the results of the AAE analysis, the ZIP regression model was more appropriate and it was found that three variables? prediction of velocity, diversion, and cognitive ability? had a relation of influence with traffic accidents caused by elderly drivers.

Effect of Triazole Compounds Treatment on Quality of Cut Flower of Dendranthema grandiflorum 'Baegkwang' (트리아졸계 화합물 처리가 절화국화의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of triazole compounds [hexaconazole ($50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$), diniconazole ($50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$), myclobutanil ($150mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$), difenoconazole ($50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$), tebuconazole ($500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$), and bitertanol ($50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$)] on commercial quality improvement of cut flowers of Dendranthema grandiflorum 'Baegkwang' Plant height, cut flower length and internode length decreased by all triazole compounds. Plant height, cut flower length, internode length and flower neck length were shortened by treatment of $50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ diniconazole and $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ tebuconazole. Flower neck was thickened by hexaconazole and myclobutanil. Flower diameter increased with myclobutanil and bitertanol, while it decreased with tebuconazole. Among physiological injury, open center increased with bitertanol treatment. Overall $50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ diniconazole and $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ tebuconazole showed a possitive effect on length flower neck and increasing chlorophyll content, while decreasing plant height, cut flower length and diameter of flowers. Thus it is necessary to consider kind, concentration, and treatment times for effective control of cut flower quality.

Effects of Anticonvulsant Monotherapy on Bone Mineral Density in Children (단일 요법 항경련제가 소아 골밀도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The use of anticonvulsants can cause side effects such as reduction of bone mineral density, requiring attention in growing children. The aim of our study is to investigate the effects of different anticonvulsants on bone mineral density in epileptic patients treated with monotherapy. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 60 subjects who visited the Pediatric Epilepsy Clinic of Bucheon St. Mary's Hospital from January 2013 to December 2017. Bone mineral density was measured with dual photon absorptiometry every 6 months. Results: The number of patients treated with oxcarbazepine, valproate and levetiracetam was 31, 16 and 13, respectively. Reduction of bone mineral density was seen in 8 out of 31 patients (25.8%, P=0.10) treated with oxcarbazepine, 9 out of 16 patients treated with valproate (56.3%, P=0.04) and 4 out of 13 patients treated with levetiracetam (30.8%, P=0.50). Conclusion: There was a significant reduction of bone mineral density in patients treated with valproate compared to the other anticonvulsants in our study. We believe attention to bone mineral density is required in children treated with anticonvulsants.
