In this paper, we investigate the cause of throughput degradation on the wireless local area network(WLAN) and the reason of interference level change attributed to the spanned frequency in the presence of electromagnetic interference. We also measured and quantified the electric field strength of interference which yields the abrupt change of the throughput. Two units of WLAN and one unit of AP(Access Point) are configured to maintain the radio link. As the sources of interference, both the co-channel and adjacent-channel interference are considered and the critical values of electric field are provided for each case. Our experimental observations show that the signal strength generated from these interference sources is at most less than 54 dBuV/m @3 m in order to coexist between WLANs and other low power radio devices without any noticeable throughput decreases. Based on our empirical results, as far as 802.11b WLAN is concerned, we believe that the current domestic limit of the signal strength for an extremely low power radio device, 30.9 dBuV/m @3 m, can be increased as much as 23.1 dB.

In this paper, we analyse the effect of the path imbalances(gain and phase mismatches) in LINC(LInear amplification with Nonlinear Component) system, and propose a simple scheme using LUTs(Look Up Table) to compensate the path imbalances. The EVM(Error Vector Magnitude) and ACPR(Adjacent Channel Power Ratio) of the LINC system are degraded significantly by the path imbalances because it adopts an outphasing technique. The EVM and ACPR are theoretically extracted for two variables(gain and phase mismatch factors) and 2-D LUTs for those are generated based on the analysis. The efficient and simple compensation scheme for the path imbalances is proposed using the 2-D LUTs. A LINC system with the suggested compensation scheme is implemented, and the proposed method is verified with an experiment. A 16-QAM signal with 1.5 MHz bandwidth is used. Before the compensation, the path gain ratio was 95 % and phase error was $19.33^{\circ}$. The proposed scheme adjusts those values with 99 % and $0.5^{\circ}$, and improves ACPR about 18.1 dB.

The probability density function(PDF) for the amplitude of the reflectivity of low-grazing-angle sea clutter has generally been modeled by a compound-Gaussian distribution, rather than by the Rayleigh distribution, owing to the intensity variation of each clutter patch over time. The texture component forming the reflectivity has been simulated by combining Gamma distribution and memory-less nonlinear transformation(MNLT). On the other hand, there is no typical method available that can be used to simulate the speckle component. We first review Watt's method, wherein the speckle is simulated starting from the Doppler spectrum of the received echoes that is modeled as having a Gaussian shape. Then, we introduce a newly proposed method. The proposed method simulates the speckle by manipulating a clutter covariance matrix through the Cholesky decomposition after minimizing the effect of adjacent clutter patches using an equalizer. The feasibility of the proposed method is validated through simulation, wherein the results from two methods are compared in terms of the Doppler spectrum and the correlation function.

Weather radar systems can provide weather information of the ground, sea, and air in extensive spatial coverage in near real time. However, it becomes problematic when ground clutter signal exists around precipitation because strong signals of ground can cause a false precipitation report. A large percentage of land coverage of Korea consists of mountainous regions where ground clutter needs to be mitigated for more accurate prediction. Thus, it is considered necessary to introduce a new suitable ground clutter removal technique specifically adequate for Korea. In this paper, the C-Map(Clutter Map) method using raw radar signals is proposed for removing ground clutter using a terrain-adaptive clutter map. A clutter map is generated using raw radar signals(I/Q) of clear days, then it is subtracted from received radar signals in frequency domain. The proposed method is applied to the radar data acquired from Sobaeksan rain radar and the result shows that the clutter rejection ratio is about 91.17 %.

In this paper, we design a 2.4 GHz bio-radar system that can detect human heartbeat and respiration signals with small size and improved noise performance using single circular-polarized antenna and phase-locked loop. The demonstrated bio-radar system consists of single circular-polarized antenna with $90^{\circ}$ hybrid, low-noise amplifier, power amplifier, voltage-controlled oscillator with phase-locked loop circuits, quadrature demodulator and analog circuits. To realize compact size, the printed annular ring stacked microstrip antenna is integrated on the transceiver circuits, so its dimension is just $40\times40mm^2$. Also, to improve signal-to-noise-ratio performance by phase noise due to transmitter leakage signal, the phase-locked loop circuit is used. The measured results show that the heart rate and respiration accuracy was found to be very high for the distance of 50 cm without the additional digital signal processing.

In this paper, the design and implementation of LNA and down-mixer using 90 nm CMOS process are presented for 60 GHz band WPAN receiver. In order to extract characteristics of the transistor used to design each elements under the optimum bias conditions, the S-parameter of the manufactured cascode topology was measured and the effect of the RF pad was removed. Measured results of 3-stages cascode type LNA the gain of 25 dB and noise figure of 7 dB. Balanced type down-mixer with a balun at LO input port shows the conversion gain of 12.5 dB within IF frequency($8.5{\sim}11.5\;GHz$) and input PldB of -7 dBm. The size and power consumption of LNA and down-mixer are $0.8{\times}0.6\;mm^2$, 43 mW and $0.85{\times}0.85\;mm^2$, 1.2 mW, respectively.

The effectiveness of deep neural networks (DNNs) for detection and classification of micro-Doppler signals generated by human walking and background noise sources is investigated. Previous research included a complex process for extracting meaningful features that directly affect classifier performance, and this feature extraction is based on experiences and statistical analysis. However, because a DNN gradually reconstructs and generates features through a process of passing layers in a network, the preprocess for feature extraction is not required. Therefore, binary classifiers and multiclass classifiers were designed and analyzed in which multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) and DNNs were applied, and the effectiveness of DNNs for recognizing micro-Doppler signals was demonstrated. Experimental results showed that, in the case of MLPs, the classification accuracies of the binary classifier and the multiclass classifier were 90.3% and 86.1%, respectively, for the test dataset. In the case of DNNs, the classification accuracies of the binary classifier and the multiclass classifier were 97.3% and 96.1%, respectively, for the test dataset.

An optical fiber sensor is capable of nondestructive measurement of a structure and it has an advantage of the immunity to electromagnetic interference because light is not affected by electromagnetic wave. In addition, if optical fibers are buried in an object like a concrete, this sensor tan analyze defects and physical status of the object without disassembling it. Especially, the fiber Bragg grating sensor is a promising optical fiber sensor capable of nondestructive test of such an object. A fiber Bragg grating has the characteristics of reflecting or blotting light of a specific wavelength. If we apply physical quantity like strain to the fiber Bragg grating, the center wavelength of the reflected light is shifted and then we can find the physical quantity applied to the fiber Bragg grating by measuring the center wavelength shift of the reflected light. The fiber Bragg grating sensor capable ot static and dynamic strain measurement is being used in health-monitoring of buildings, structures, etc. Recently increasing is interest in dynamic strain measurement inevitable to the civil structures such as roads and bridges. In this study we implemented the optical fiber sensor system which can measure dynamic strain at multiple points using Fabry-Perot wavelength demodulation. And we measured the static and dynamic strain using this sensor system with a test structure(cantilever). Measurement results were similar to those obtained with the conventional electrical measurement methods.

Modern warfare is gradually changing into a network war, and information electronic warfare is also progressing. In modern war, electronic warfare is all military activity concerned with electromagnetic field use, such as signal collecting, communication monitoring, information analysis, and electronic attack. The one key function of signal collecting for enemy signal analysis, direction finding, collects the signal radiated from enemy area and then calculates the enemy direction. This paper examined the Watson-Watt algorithm for an amplitude direction finding system and CVDF algorithm for phase direction finding system and analyzed the difference in the direction finding accuracy between in the clean electromagnetic field environment and in the real operating field environment of electronic warfare system. In the real field, the direction finding accuracy was affected by the reflected field from the surrounding obstacles. Therefore, this paper proposesan enhanced direction finding process for reducing the effect. The result of direction finding by applying the proposed process was enhanced above $1.24^{\circ}$ compared to the result for the existing process.

In this paper, the analysis of baluns that are inevitably required to design a differential low noise amplifier, The balun converts a single signal input from the antenna into a differential signal, which serves as an input to the differential amplifier. In addition, it protects the circuit from ESD(Electrostatic Discharge) coming through the antenna and helps with input matching. However, in the case of a passive balun used in general, since the AC signal is transmitted through electromagnetic coupling formed between two metal lines, it not only has loss without gain but also has the greatest influence on the total noise figure of the receiving end. Therefore, the design of a balun in a low-noise amplifier is very important, and it is important to design a balun in consideration of line width, line spacing, winding, radius, and layout symmetry that are necessary. In this paper, the factors to be considered for improving the quality factor of balun are summarized, and the tendency of variation of resistance, inductance, and capacitance of the balun according to design element change is analyzed. Based on the analysis results, it is proved that the design of input balun allows the design of low noise, high gain differential amplifier with gain of 24 dB and noise figure of 2.51 dB.
