An Extremely Small Size Multi-Loop Phase Locked Loop (복수개의 부궤환 루프를 가진 초소형 크기의 위상고정루프)

  • An extremely small size multi-loop phase-locked loop(PLL) keeping phase noise performances has been proposed. It has been designed to have the loop filter made of small single capacitor with multiple Frequency Voltage Converters (FVCs) because the main goal is to make the size of the proposed PLL extremely small. Multiple FVCs which are connected to voltage controlled oscillator(VCO) make multiple negative feedback loops in PLL. Those multiple negative feedback loops enable the PLL with the loop filter made of an extremely small size single capacitor operate stably. It has been designed with a 1.8V $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The simulation results show that the proposed PLL has the 1.6ps jitter and $10{\mu}s$ locking time.

A temperature stable bandpass filter using dieletric-filled stepped impedance resonators (접합된 Stepped impedance resonator를 이용한 온도보상형 유전체 대역통과 필터)

  • The design method of a temperature stable bandpass filter using dielectric coaxial resonators of with two dielectric ceramics with opposite signs of temperature coefficient of dielectric constant (${\tau}_{\epsilon}$) to compensate for each other in this method. $MgTiO_3$(${\tau}_{\epsilon}$=+99 ppm/${\circ}C$) as a positive ${\tau}_{\epsilon}$ material and Ba($Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$(${\tau}_{\epsilon}$=-77ppm/${\circ}C$) as a negative material were selected. The length of a SIR for the temperature stability was calculated according to the design method and the susceptance slope parameter of the SIR was obtained. A temperature stable bandpass filter using dielectric SIR's was designed, simulated and fabricated. The center frequency of this filter was 915 MHz and the pass bandwidth was 20 MHz. Temperature properties of this bandpass filter by simulations were compared with the measured results of the bandpass filter fabricated.

  • For the over-heat protection purpose in power strip devices, over-current detection/protection circuits, such as bimetal, switching circuit, and microprocessor-based relay circuit, have been widely setup in high-end products. Most of these circuits are connected to the power line in parallel and, thus, they are sensitive to the line voltage and current distortion. Moreover, these protection circuits are often costly and, therefore, it is hard to meet the commercial requirements. A low-cost over-current detection circuit with the contactless current transducer is designed and tested in this paper. The detection circuit is galvanically isolated from the power line and, thus, less sensitive to the line voltage distortion. The experimental results show that the proposed circuit accurately operates despite of its simple structure and low-cost electronic parts.

  • In this paper, distributed mixer is studied at microwave frequency. The circuit of distributed mixer composed of gate 1,2, drain transmission lines, matching circuits in input and output terminal, DGFET's. For impedance matching of input and output port at higher frequency, image impedance concept is introduced. In distributed mixer, a DGFET's impedances are absorbed by artificial transmission line, this type of mixer can get a very broadband characteristics compared to that of current systems. A RF/LO signal is applied to each gate input port, and are excited the drain transmission line through transcondutance of the DGFET's. The output signals from each drain port of DGFET's added in same phases. We designed and frabricated the distributed mixer, and a conversion gain, noise figure, bandwidth, LO/RF isolation of the mixer are shown through computer simulation and experimentation.

  • The reliability on high cycle fatigue damage mechanism for new blades manufactured by reverse-engineering is demonstrated by success-run test. Turbine blades always experience various dynamic loads in turbine operation, as well as being in resonance condition and forced by fluid-induced vibrations mostly during run-up/down, which may accumulate high cycle damage to the blades. The accidents caused by blade failure especially incur not only a lot of troubles to the machinery but also huge financial losses. Therefore it is necessary to verify the reliability of blades in advance for the safe use. The success run test for the reliability demonstration is designed and performed for the new blades using the technique known as resonant high cycle fatigue testing.

  • This paper deals with the guaranteed cost control problems for a class of discrete-time linear uncertain systems with time-varying delay. The uncertain systems under consideration depend on time-varying norm-bounded parameter uncertainties. We address the existence condition and the design method of the memoryless state feedback control law such that the closed loop system not only is quadratically stable but also guarantees an adequate level of performance for all admissible uncertainties. Through some changes of variables and Schur complement, It is shown that the sufficient condition can be rewritten as an LMI(linear matrix inequality) form in terms of all variables.

Acceleration Sensor Using Optical Fibers and Film Gratings (광섬유와 필름격자를 이용한 가속도 센서)

  • We develop a fiber optic acceleration sensor with LED, PD, POF, and a cantilever beam, having film grating at the edge of the beam. Light is transmitted from LED to PD through the film grating. When the cantilever beam moves by external vibration, output light is modulated as sinusoidal signals. The characteristics of output signals are dominated by the spacing of the film grating and also by the size and the elasticity of the beam. Two output signals, having constant initial phase difference, are obtained by two gratings with 90 degree phase difference. Those two signals are used to determine phase angle, which is proportional to the displacement of the beam. Finally, the acceleration is determined from conversion equation between displacement and acceleration. This sensor is designed for monitoring the vibration of large and complex building in the low frequency range of below 7 Hz, and is particularly suitable to measure acceleration in electromagnetic environments.

  • In this paper, a discrete-time loop filter(DLF) phase-locked loop with a Frequency Fluctuation Converting Circuit(FFCC) has been proposed. Discrete-time loop filter can improve spur characteristic by connecting the charge pump and voltage oscillator discretely unlike a conventional continuous-time loop filter. The proposed PLL is designed to operate stably by the internal negative feedback loop including the SSC acting as a negative feedback to the discrete-time loop filter of the external negative feedback loop. In addition, the phase noise is further improved by reducing the magnitude of the loop filter output voltage variation through the FFCC. Therefore, the magnitude of jitter has been reduced by 1/3 compared to the conventional structure. The proposed phase locked loop has been simulated with Hspice using the 1.8V 180nm CMOS process.

  • PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) has excellent mechanical properties such as low absorption, dimensional stability, abrasion resistance. It is used in manufacturing electronic components, the automobile part and the various precise parts. Bis (hydroxybutyl) terephthalate (BHBT) which is a PBT monomer, can be produced by transesterification reaction of DMT (dimethyl terephthalate) with 1,4-butandiol (BD). The kinetics of transesterification reaction of DMT with BD using zinc acetate as a catalyst was studied in a batch reactor. Previous kinetic studies was carried out in a semibatch reactor where generated methanol was removed so that reverse reactions were not considered in the kinetic expressions, resulting in inaccuracy of the kinetic model. Mathematical models of a batch reactor for the transesterification reaction were developed and used to characterize the reaction kinetics and the composition distribution of the reaction products. More accurate models than previous models was obtained and found to have a good agreement between model predictions and experimental data.

  • To reduce costs and address other practical concern related to architectural lighting, we have been involved in various aspects of advanced daylighting design and control. If we look toward future building trends, we see that the advanced has already successfully deployed such complex lighting control systems. This paper takes a broad view of what advanced manufacturers have done to develop energy efficient lighting control technologies such as sensors, lumen maintenance, time of day scheduling, peak demand reduction and so forth. First of all strategies, daylighting controls would also need to be commissioned to respond to the specific daylighting signature of the zone. To translate the daylight in term of the amount of energy savings, an electric lighting system is designed and automatic on-off control system integrated with the contribution of daylighting has been applied to the operating of the artificial lighting. The lighting analysis program, Lumen-Micro predicts the optimal layout of conventional fluorescent and incandescent lighting fixtures to meet the designed lighting level and calculates unit power density, which translates the demanded amount of lighting energy.
