  • We have studied magnetic structure and magnetic anisotropy energy of cubic transition metal mono-oxide cluster FeO and MnO using OpenMX method based on density functional method. The calculation results show that the antiferromagnetic spin arrangement has the lowest energy for FeO and MnO due to the superexchange interactions. The magnetic anisotropy is only found for antiferromagnetically ordered FeO cluster, since occupied electron of 3d down-spin level induces the spin-orbit couplings with <111> directed angular momentum.

  • Active debris removal, a technology that approaches and removes space debris in orbit, and the on-orbit service, a technology for extending the mission life of satellites by fuel charging or by exchanging the battery, are gaining interest with the growth of the space community. SaTReC plans to develop a satellite capable of capturing and removing Korean satellites orbiting in space after the end of their missions. In contrast to the previously launched satellites by Korea, which were mainly intended to observe Earth and the space environment, rendezvous/docking technologies, as required in the future during, for instance, space exploration missions, will be implemented and demonstrated. In this paper, an orbital transition method for next-generation small satellites that will capture and remove space debris will be introduced. It is assumed that a small satellite with a mass of approximately 200 kg will be injected into the mission orbit through Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II in 2027. Because the satellite must access the target using a minimum amount of fuel, an approaching technology using Earth's J2 perturbation force has been developed. This method is expected to enable space debris removal missions for relatively lightweight satellites and to serve as the basis for carrying out a new type of space exploration in what is termed the 'Newspace' era.

  • Electrophosphorescent light emitting diodes (LEDs) using phosphorescent dyes as triplet emitter, which incorporate a heavy metal atom to mix singlet and triplet states by the strong spin-orbit coupling, can achieve the theoretically $100\%$ internal quantum efficiency. In this paper, we report on the performance and the energy transfer mechanism of polymer based highly efficient electrophosphorescent LEDs. The effect of phase separation and aggregation to the energy transfer between polymer hosts and phosphorescent guests and performance of polymer electrophosphorescent LEDs were investigated. Finally, the effect of introducing substitute group and ligand modification of phosphorescent dyes on optical and electrical properties are reported.

  • The cone intercept method (CIM) is generally used for attitude determination of a spin-stabilized satellite. The method is popularly used on a transfer orbit, but it is well known that it can also be used for the geosychronous orbit. In this paper, the CIM is applied to the geosynchronous orbit and its performance and limitations will be investigated from the results. The CIM impliments two sensors (Sun and Earth sensors). The Sun sensor finds the angle between the spin-axis and the direction vector to the Sun and the Earth sensor does the angle between the spin-axis and the direction vector to the Earth. By using these two cone angles, the CIM gives the direction of the spin-axis of the satellite.

  • The cases for selecting contact materials of Ag and AgC for Bias Track Relay are the studies and their safety evaluations are proposed in this paper. The welding at the relative low current has occurred in Ag contacts, but the one has not occurred in AgC contacts although the high currents flow since it has an excellent temperature characteristic. In the repetitive switching experiment, more unstable resistance and transfer phenomena has occurred in contacts as the switching numbers of AgC contacts increase, which results in more consumption of contacts. In the experiments, there exists a trade off relationship between welding and resistance variation. AgC contacts have excellent characteristics in welding, but the caution is required in using them since a lot of repetition switching produces much resistance variation. However, Ag contacts have excellent characteristics in repetitive switching, but weak ones in welding.

  • The MNDO calculations were performed on the various rotamers of N-methyl formamide, N,N-dimethyl formamide, N-methyl acetamide, and N,N-dimethylacetamide in order to investigate the contribution of the one-electron and the steric effect on their rotational barriers about the C-N bond. Results show that while the conformational stabilities of formamides depend mainly on the one-electron factor, those of acetamides depend mainly on the steric factor. According to results obtained by calculations on the rotational barriers about C-N bond, for N-monosubstituted amides the steric effect is larger in the rotational ground state than in the transition state and for N,N-disubstituted amides the steric effect is larger in the rotational transition state.

  • Rate constans for the chloride exchange of some arylmethylchloride in dry acetone have been determined, and activation parameters have been evaluated. The reactivities of substates are explained with perturbational molecular orbital (PMO) method and HSAB principle. It was found that carbon-chlorine resonance integral at the transition state is a out 67% of ${\beta}$, the carbon-carbon resonance integral.

  • We have investigated electronic structuresof antiferromagnetic YBaCo_2O_5 using the local spin-density approximation (LSDA) + U method. The charge and orbital ordered insulating ground state is correctly obtained with the strong on-site Coulomb interaction. Co^{2+} and Co^{3+} ions are found to be in the high spin (HS) and intermediate spin (IS) state, respectively. The tetragonal to orthorhombic structural transition is responsible for the ordering phenomena and the spin states of Co ions. The large contribution of the orbital moment to the total magnetic moment indicates that the effect of the spin-orbit coupling is very important in YBaCo_2O_5.
