This study have goal with conceptual design for Offshore Structures of high pressure control valve for localization. Ball valve for development accomplished with flow analysis based on provision of ANSI B16.34, ANSI B16.10, ANSI B16.25 In order to localize the Offshore Structures high pressure control valve. Numerical simulation using CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamic) in order to predict a mass flow rate and a flow coefficient form flow dynamic point of view. The working fluid assumed the glycerin($C_3H_8O_3$). The valve inlet and outlet setup a pressure boundary condition. The outlet pressure was fixed by atmospheric pressure and calculated until increasing 1bar to 10bar. CFD analysis used STAR-CCM+ which is commercial code and Governing equations were calculated by moving mesh which is rotated 90 degrees when ball valve operated opening and closing in 1 degree interval. The result shows change of mass flow rate according to opening and closing angle of valve. Flow decrease observed open valve that equal percentage flow paten which is general inclination of ball valve. Relation with flow and flow coefficient can not be proportional according to inlet pressure when compare with mass flow rate. Because flow coefficient have influence in flow and pressure difference. Namely, flow can be change even if it has same Cv value. The structural analysis used ANSYS which is a commercial code. Stress analysis result of internal pressure in valve showed lower than yield strength. This is expect to need more detail design and verification for stem and seat structure.

A RANS(Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes) based numerical method is developed for the evaluation of ship resistance and self-propulsion performances. In the usability aspect of CFD for the hull form design, the field grid around practical hull forms is generated by solving a grid Poisson equation based on the hull surface grid generated from station offsets and centerline profile. A body force technique is introduced to model the effects of the propeller in which the propeller loads are obtained from potential flow analysis using an unsteady lifting surface method. The free surface is captured by using a two-phase level-set method and the realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ model is used for turbulence closure. The hull attitude in vertical plane, i.e., trim and sinkage, is calculated by using a quasi-steady method and then considered in the computation by translating and rotating the grid system according to the values. For the validation of the proposed method, the numerical results of resistance tests for KCS, KLNG, and KVLCC1 and of self-propulsion test for KCS are compared with experimental data.
This study is related with fire risk assessment for fire and smoke spread of double skin facade system by use of FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) which is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of fire-driven fluid flow. For the study, fire scenario is intended to evaluate the impact of a fire spread for glazed office building. The major purpose of this study is to analyze the fire risk depending on the width of between inner skin and outer skin and to present fire prevention method regarding double skin facade system. The result of analysis presents fire spread more vertically as intermediate space becomes narrow. It is anticipated that fire can spread upper 2 stories above the fire floor if intermediate space with not more than 1m width. Therefore, prevention of vertical fire spread is required.

When emergency core cooling system (ECCS) is operated during loss of coolant accident (LOCA) in a pressurized water reactor (PWR), pressurized thermal shock (PTS) phenomenon can occur as cooling water is injected into a cold leg, mixed with hot primary coolant, and then entrained into a reactor vessel. Insufficient flow mixing may cause temperature stratification and steam condensation. In addition, flow vibration may cause thermal stresses in surrounding structures. This will reduce the life of the reactor vessel. Due to the importance of PTS phenomenon, in this study, calculation was performed for Test 1 among six types of OECD/NEA ROSA tests with ANSYS CFX R.17. Predicted results were then compared to measured data. Additionally, because temperature difference between the hot coolant at the inlet of the cold leg and the cold cooling water at the inlet of the ECCS injection line is 200 K or more, buoyancy force due to density difference might have significant effect on thermal-hydraulic characteristics of flow. Therefore, in this study, the necessity to include buoyancy force term in governing equations for accurate prediction of single phase thermal stratification in both cold legs and downcomer by ECCS injection was numerically studied.

In this study, numerical simulations on the effects of bilge keel on roll motion were conducted. The numerical simulations were performed on a 110 m class PSV using the commercial viscous flow analysis software Star-CCM+. Before conducting the study on the 110 m class PSV, an additional simulation of DTMB 5512 was performed and compared with the experimental results to validate the feasibility of the numerical simulation. In the simulation on PSV, a nondimensional damping coefficient was calculated using a free roll decay simulation, and the response amplitude operator (RAO) for the roll motion was calculated with a nondimensional damping coefficient at two conditions (with/without bilge keel).

Polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells are a promising technology for short-term power generation required in residential and automobile applications. Proper management of water has been found to be essential for improving the performance and durability of PEM fuel cells. This study investigated the liquid water exhaust capabilities of various flow channels having different geometries and surface properties. Three-pass serpentine flow fields were prepared by patterning channels of 1 mm or 2 mm width onto hydrophilic Acrylic plates or hydrophobic Teflon plates, and the behaviors of liquid water in those flow channels were experimentally visualized. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were also conducted to quantitatively assess the liquid water exhaust capabilities of flow channels for PEM fuel cells. Numerical results showed that hydrophobic flow channels have better liquid water exhaust capabilities than hydrophilic flow channels. Flow channels with curved corners showed less droplet stagnation than the channels with sharp corners. It was also found that a smaller width is desirable for hydrophobic flow channels while a larger width is desirable for hydrophilic ones. The above results were explained as being due to the different droplet morphologies in hydrophobic and hydrophilic channels.

Immersed boundary method (IBM) is the most effective method to overcome the disadvantage of LBM (Lattice Boltzmann Method) related to the limitation of the grid shape. IBM also make LBM possible to simulate flow over complex shape of obstacle without any treatment on the curved boundary. In the research, IBLBM was used to perform LBM simulation of a flow over a moving circular cylinder to determine the flow feature and aerodynamics characteristic of the cylinder. To ascertain the applicability of IBLBM on the moving obstacle near the wall, it was first simulated for the case of the flow over a fixed circular cylinder in a channel and the results were compared against the solution of moving cylinder in the channel using IBLBM. The simulations were performed in a moderate range of Reynolds number at each moving cylinder to identify the flow feature and aerodynamic characteristics of circular cylinder in a channel. The drag and lift coefficients of the cylinder were calculated from the simulation results. We have numerically confirmed that the critical Reynolds number for vortex shedding is Re=50 and the result is the same as the case of fixed cylinder. As the cylinder approaching to a wall (${\gamma}<2.5$), the 2nd vortex is developed by interacting with the wall boundary-layer vorticity. When the cylinder is very closed to the wall, ${\gamma}<0.6$, the cylinder acts like blockage to block the flow between the cylinder and wall so that the vortex developed on the upper cylinder elongated and time averaged lifting and drag coefficients abruptly increase.
The reciprocating compressor is widely used in the industry field, because it has simple principle and high efficiency. In this work, in order to improve design of discharge passage line in hydrogen compression system Numerical analysis was conducted. General information about an internal gas flow is presented by numerical analysis approach. Relating with hydrogen compressing system, which have an important role in hydrogen energy utilization, this should be a useful tool to observe the flow quickly and clearly. Flow characteristic analysis, including velocity, pressure and turbulence kinetic energy distribution of hydrogen gas going out from the cylinder to discharge-path line are presented in this paper. Discharge-passage model is designed based on real model of hydrogen compressor. Pressure boundary conditions are applied considering the real condition of operating system. The result shows velocity, pressure and turbulent kinetic energy are not distributed uniformly along the passage of the Hydrogen system. Path line or particles tracks help to demonstrate flow characteristics inside the passage. The existence of vortices and flow direction can be precisely predicted. Based on this result, the design improvement might be done.

In this study, 3-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis was induced to simulate air flow and particle motion in the axial flow cyclone separator. The commercialized CFD code FLUENT was used to visualize pressure drop and particle collection efficiency inside the cyclone. We simulated 4 cyclone models with different shape of vane, such as turning angle or shape of cross section. For the air flow simulation, we calculated the flow field using standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence viscous model. Each model was simulated with different inlet or outlet boundary conditions. Our major concern for the flow filed simulation was pressure drop across the cyclone. For the particle trajectory simulation, we adopted Euler-Lagrangian approach to track particle motion from inlet to outlet of the cyclone. Particle collection efficiencies of various conditions are calculated by number based collection efficiency. The result showed that the rotation angle of the vane plays major roll to the pressure drop. But the smaller rotation angle of vane causes particle collection efficiency difference with different inlet position.
