We simulated the roughing train of the rod mill of SEAH BESTEEL Inc. using finite element method to inhibit surface cracks initiation on workpiece. We designed 2nd pass (square roll) and applied to this roll in the roughing train of the rod mill. Also, we proposed new pass schedule, which changed roll gap of 3rd and 4th groove by using finite element method. We used shear damage model, which is dependent on shear stress ratio and compared the number of damaged elements on workpiece. A damaged element means surface crack. Consequently, after 2nd pass (square roll) is changed, the error rate decreased by 1.43% when compare to that of the old groove. And the number of damaged elements in the new pass schedule decreased by 37.6%, which is less than present pass schedule.
Flat plate structures under lateral load are susceptible to the brittle shear failure of plate-column connection. To prevent such brittle failure, strength and ductility of the connection should be ensured. However, according to previous studies, current design methods do not accurately estimate the strength of plate-column connection. In the present study, parametric study using nonlinear finite element analysis was performed for interior connections. Based on the numerical results, a design method for the connection was developed. At the critical sections around the connection coexist flexural moment and shear developed by lateral and gravity loads, and maximum allowable eccentric shear stresses were proposed based on the interactions between the flexural moment and shear, The proposed method can precisely predict the strength of the connection, compared with the current design provisions. The predictability of the proposed method was verified by the comparisons with existing experiments and nonlinear numerical analyses.

This study was conducted to develop a test system for evaluating resistance against reflection cracking in shear mode caused by wheel load in asphalt concrete overlaid on the deteriorated cement concrete pavement. Reflection cracking resistance of selected polymer modified asphalt(PMA) mixtures with and without reinforcement was evaluated using this test system. It was shown that the test results accounted for the effectiveness of materials and reinforcement characteristics in terms of the difference in the resistance against reflection cracking. A shear failure life of a certain mixture was estimated with a high coefficient of determination. when the test results were used in a well known prediction model. Therefore, it seemed to be possible to use this technique for predicting a relative service life of on overlay.

In this study, eleven reinforced concrete beams, without stirrup, using high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar with ground granulated blast furnace slag(SHF Series, SHFSC Series) and standard specimens without or with stirrup(SSS, BSS) were constructed and tested under monotonic loading. Experimental programs were carried out to improve and evaluate the shear performance of such test specimens, such as the load-displacement, the failure mode, the maximum strength, and shear strength. All the specimens were modeled in scale-down size. Test results showed that test specimens(SHF Series, SHFSC Series) was increased respectively the shear strength carrying capacity by 26%, 20% and the ductility capacity by 5.27, 5.75 times in comparison with the standard specimen without stirrup(SSS). And the specimens(SHF Series, SHFSC Series) showed enough ductile behavior and stable flexural failure.
In designing the boundary confinement of shear walls, the current design provisions and recommendations are empirical and prescriptive; they specify a certain confinement length and details, regardless of the actual requirement of ductility Therefore, they are inappropriate to the performance based-design. The purpose of the present study is to develop a ductility design method that Is applicable to the performance based-design of shear wall. For the purpose, experimental studies were performed to investigate variations in the ductility of shear walls with the length of the boundary confinement. Five specimens modeling the compressive zone of cross sections with different confinement area were tested against eccentric vertical load. Through the experimental studies, strength, ductility, and failure mode of the compression zone were investigated. In addition, nonlinear numerical analyses for the overall cross-sections of shear wall were performed to investigate variations of the stress and strain profiles with the length of compression zone. On the basis of the experimental and numerical studies, a ductility design method for shear wall was developed. By using the proposed design method, for a given ductility demand, the area of lateral confinement and corresponding reinforcement ratio can be precisely determined so that the ductile behavior and economical design are assured.
In this study, an estimation equation was proposed to predict the shear strength of RC interior beam-column connections. The proposed equation considered the effect of both truss and arch mechanisms, while the existing equations in the ACI and AIJ design codes consider only arch mechanism. In addition, the proposed equation estimates the shear strength of RC joints by considering the contribution of the vertical and horizontal steel bars on the effective compressive strength of concrete. The shear strength of RC joints calculated by the proposed equation was compared with the test results of 54 RC joints, which failed in shear before plastic hinges developed at the end of the adjacent beams. The comparison study showed that the proposed equation estimated the strength of the 54 specimens with a mean value of 1.14 and the coefficient of variation of 20%. The proposed equation provides improved prediction compared to those obtained from the equations in the ACI and AIJ design codes.

Flat plate slab has been widely used in high rise building for its remarkable advantages. However, Flat plate structures under lateral load are susceptible to punching shear of the slab-column connection. Exterior slab-column connections has an unsymmetrical critical section for eccentric shear of which perimeter is less than that of interior connection, and hence, around the connection, unbalanced moment and eccentric shear are developed by both gravity load and lateral loads. Therefore, exterior connections is susceptible to punching shear failure. For that reason, this study compare ACI 318-05 to CEB-FIP MC 90 that is based on experiment results and existing data of flat plate exterior connections. This study shows that compared to CEB-FIP MC 90 is more exact about eccentric shear stress, unbalanced moment and Both of all are not suitable in large column aspect ratio. Considering gravity shear ratio, These are suitable but design condition only consider gravity shear ratio. So these should be considered differences from change of design condition

VPS(Void Plywood Slab System, VPS) has optimized the shape of the hollow material. In addition, it has a function to prevent the floating of the hollow material and the separation due to the working load. In this study, the punching shear capacity of flat plate was performed using Void Plywood Slab System with form work panel proposed in the previous study. As a result of the test, the strength of the VSPS specimen in which the hollow material was placed beyond 2.0 times the column width from the loading point was reduced by 9.4% compared to the reference specimen. However, the strength value was about 1.57 times higher than the design value suggested by KBC 2016. It was found that there was no change in stiffness compared to the reference specimen until shear failure occurred in the VSPS specimen in which the hollow material was placed. It can be seen that this experiment is being destroyed by shear as the flexural reinforcing bars are sufficiently reinforced.

This study is to suggest the details of new concept of bridge deck. Experimental studies on the behavior of a inverted T-shaped steelconcrete composite deck were carried out. The part of inverted T-shaped steel is embedded in concrete. Reinforced concrete deck specimen and composite deck specimens were fabricated and static bending fracture tests were conducted. The ultimate strength and fracture strength of specimens were evaluated. The effects of shear hole crossing bars of composite deck were also analyzed. From the results of experiments, composite deck with shear hole crossing bar increased shear strength, and showed typical tensile failure. Ultimate strength and fracture strength of composite deck with shear hole crossing bar are higher than those of reinforced concrete deck. The displacement of composite deck is higher than that of reinforced concrete deck.

Four series of fiber reinforced concrete deep beams without shear reinforcement were tested to determine their cracking shear strengths and ultimate shear capacities. Results of tests on 20 reinforced concrete deep beams (including 16 containing steel fibers) are reported. Three parameters were varied in the study, namely, the concrete compressive strength, volume fraction of fibers, and the shear span to depth ratio. The effects of fiber incorporation on failure modes, deflections. strains, cracking shear strength, and ultimate shear strength have been examined. Resistance to shear stresses have been found to be improved by the inclusion of fibers. Based on these investigations, a method of computing the shear stress of steel fiber reinforced concrete deep beam is suggested. The comparisons between computed values and experimentally observed values are shown to validate the proposed theoretical treatment.
