  • To enhance electrochemical performances of anode materials, the surface of coal tar pitch (CTP) was modified by incorporating heteroatoms through chemical treatment with phosphoric acid ($H_3PO_4$). The prepared anode materials with modified CTP was analyzed by XRD, FE-SEM and XPS. The electrochemical performances of modified CTP were investigated by constant current charge/discharge test, rate performance, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests using the electrolyte of $LiPF_6$ dissolved in the mixed organic solvents (ethylene carbonate : dimethyl carbonate = 1 : 1 vol% + vinylene carbonate 3 wt%). The coin cell using modified CTP ($H_3PO_4/CTP$ = 3 : 100 in weight) has better initial capacity and initial efficiency (489 mAh/g, 82%) than those of other composition coin cells. Also, it was found that the capacity retention was 86% after 30 cycles and the rate capability was 87% at 2 C/0.1 C.

  • Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) is a technique to reconstruct the internal resistivity distribution using the measured voltages on the surface electrodes. ERT inverse problem suffers from ill-posedness nature, so regularization methods are used to mitigate ill-posedness. The reconstruction performance varies depending on the type of regularization method. In this paper, an interacting dual-mode regularization method is proposed with two different regularization methods, L1-norm regularization and total variation (TV) regularization, to achieve robust reconstruction performance. The interacting dual-mode regularization method selects the suitable regularization method and combines the regularization methods based on computed mode probabilities depending on the actual conditions. The proposed method is tested with numerical simulations and the results demonstrate an improved reconstruction performance.

  • BaZr $O_3$-based proton conductors in which B-site cations are partially substituted by Ce and Yb were fabricated by a solid state reaction method. The electrical properties of the specimens were measured by using impedance analyzer in dry air and wet air atmospheres. The electrical conductivity showed higher value in wet air than in dry air at below $600^{\circ}C$. As the Ce content increased, the electrical conductivity increased. Among four compositions, BaZ $r_{0.8}$C $e_{0.15}$Y $b_{0.05}$ $O_3$$_{-{\delta}}$ specimen showed the highest electrical conductivity,1.72$\times$10$^{-3}$ S$cm^{-1}$ /, at 80$0^{\circ}C$. In the low temperature region, the electrical conductivity was higher in wet air than in dry air. However, as the temperature increased, the proton conductivity reduced and thus the electrical conductivity showed similar value at approximately $700^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, conducted emission from the LDC(Low-Side DC/DC Converter) of a HEV/EV was analyzed using high-frequency circuit modeling in system-level approach. The conducted emission by PWM process(100 kHz; Switching Frequency) can cause RFI(Radio-Frequency Interference) problems in the AM/FM frequency range. In order to mitigate this conducted emission, a high-frequency equivalent circuit model is proposed by analyzing the fundamental circuits, parasitic components in their parts and connections and non-linear characteristics of MOSFETs, high-power capacitors, inverters, motors, high-power cables, and bus bars which are composed of the LDC. Using these circuit models, results of both simulation and measurement were compared and similarities between them were verified. We are looking forward that this approach can be effectively used in the EMC design of HEV/EV.

  • Silicon/carbon composites as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries were examined to find the cycle performance and capacity. Silicon/carbon composites were prepared by a two-step method, including the magnesiothermic reduction of SBA-15 (Santa Barbara Amorphous material No. 15) and carbonization of phenol resin. The electrochemical behaviors of lithium ion batteries were characterized by charge/discharge, cycle, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests. The improved electrochemical performance attributed to the fact that silicon/carbon composites suppress the volume expansion of the silicon particles and enhance the conductivity of silicon/carbon composites (30 ohm) compared to that of using the pure silicon (235 ohm). The anode electrode of silicon/carbon composites showed the high capacity approaching 1,348 mAh/g and the capacity retention ratio of 76% after 50 cycles.

  • The realization and the performance of ICP source are strongly affected by its electrical impedance and the electric/magnetic field distribution. The ICP source impedance is determined by the antenna impedance and the plasma one. It is preferred to keep the imaginary impedance between -100 ohm to 100 ohm, since it should be avoided the high voltage formation on the antenna and abrupt impedance variation during the thin film process. The plasma uniformity is affected by the electric and magnetic field which is formed by the antenna current and voltage. The influence of azimuthal symmetry are shown by the electromagnetic simulation and the measurement result of plasma density. The radial uniformity can be controlled by locating the concentric antennas which have different diameters. The power distribution ratio and its control method are presented in the case of parallel antenna connections.

  • In this study, $TiO_2$ nanotube plate and metal electrodes(Copper, Nickel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Tin, Titanium) were compared on cathodic reduction of nitrate ($NO_3{^-}-N$) during electrolysis. The electrochemical characteristics were compared based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The surface morphology was obtained using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) method. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method was implemented for the specific surface area analysis of the cathodes. To study kinetics, 90 minute batch electrolysis of nitrate solution was performed for each cathodes. In conclusion, under the condition of relatively low ($0.04 A\;cm^{-2}$) current density, $TiO_2$ nanotube plate showed no surface corrosion during the electrolysis, and the reaction rate was measured the highest in the kinetic analysis.

  • In this study, Graphite/Silicon/Carbon (G/Si/C) composites were synthesized to improve the electrochemical properties of Graphite as an anode material of lithium ion battery. The prepared G/Si/C composites were analyzed by XRD, TGA and SEM. Also the electrochemical performances of G/Si/C composites as the anode were performed by constant current charge/discharge, rate performance, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests in the electrolyte of $LiPF_6$ dissolved inorganic solvents (EC:DMC:EMC=1:1:1 vol%). Lithium ion battery using G/Si/C electrode showed better characteristics than graphite electrode. It was confirmed that as the silicon content increased, the capacity increased but the capacity retention ratio decreased. Also, it was shown that both the capacity and the rate performances were improved when using the Silicon (${\leq}25{\mu}m$). It is found that in the case of 10 wt% of Silicon (${\leq}25{\mu}m$), G/Si/C composites have the initial discharge capacity of 495 mAh/g, the capacity retention ratio of 89% and the retention rate capability of 80% in 2 C/0.1 C.

  • Sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) with a certain degree of sulfonation were synthesized by reacting PEEK and sulfuric acid at different reaction time. Then ion-selective composite carbon electrodes (ISCCE) were fabricated by coating the prepared SPEEK on the surface of carbon electrodes. The specific capacitance and resistance of the ISCCE were analyzed by electrical impedance spectroscopy. The ion exchange capacities (IEC) of the SPEEKs were measured in the range of 1.60~2.57 meq/g depending on the sulfonation time. The SPEEK more than 2.5 meq/g of IEC was considered unsuitable for fabricating the ISCCE because it was dissolved in water. The specific capacitance of the prepared ISCCE increased with increasing the IEC of coated SPEEKs and the capacitance was improved up to about 20% compared to that of uncoated carbon electrode. In addition, the electrical resistance of coating layer decreased significantly with increasing the IEC of coated SPEEKs. It is expected that the desalination efficiency of conventional capacitive deionization process can be improved by using the prepared ISCCE coated with SPEEK.

  • Inverse problem in electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is highly ill-posed therefore prior information is used to mitigate the ill-posedness. Regularization methods are often adopted in solving EIT inverse problem to have satisfactory reconstruction performance. In solving the EIT inverse problem, iterative Gauss-Newton method is generally used due to its accuracy and fast convergence. However, its performance is still suboptimal and mainly depends on the selection of regularization parameter. Although, there are few methods available to determine the regularization parameter such as L-curve method they are sometimes not applicable for all cases. Moreover, regularization parameter is a scalar and it is fixed during iteration process. Therefore, in this paper, a novel method is used to determine the regularization parameter to improve reconstruction performance. Conductivity norm is calculated at each iteration step and it used to obtain the regularization parameter which is a diagonal matrix in this case. The proposed method is applied to human thorax imaging and the reconstruction performance is compared with traditional methods. From numerical results, improved performance of proposed method is seen as compared to conventional methods.
