This study examined (1) what effect emotional labor has on an university library, focusing on (2) the relationship among a supervisor's emotional intelligence, the extent of social support and the level of library service on job performance. The survey period took place from 14 Oct. to 4 Nov. 2013. 533 librarians at 13 public and 28 private university libraries were included in the survey. Of the 533 surveys distributed, 529 were returned and used in the final analysis. SPSS Win 21.0 was used for statistical analysis, factor analysis, regression analysis and differential analysis. The survey also shows that a librarian's emotional labor affects emotional intelligence of supervisor, social support and library service level positively. This finding is not the case for the employees in the general service industry. Because the librarian is professional and manages stress better than general employees. This research suggest the following practical measures. Educational programs for librarian's emotional intelligence should be planned in order to improve library service.

In this study, we tried to provide basic materials necessary for introduction of smart libraries by analyzing present conditions of its operation based on the actual conditions of digital materials. For this study, a survey of actual use of digital materials is conducted for digital material rooms of public libraries in nationwide and 213 persons in charge of digital materials. As a result of this study, the followings are found: first, 80.8% of those public libraries responding to the survey operate digital material rooms and average 1.75 person is in charge of managing digital materials and open type Wi-Fis are installed in those public libraties but only 11.3% of those libraries provide 5G services; second, it is found that the digital data which are owned by those public libraries most are video contents (63.8%), e-books (53.5%) and audio books (53.5%) in order. In addition average number of types of audio books 781, video contents 4,985, nonbook contents except for video 3,616 and other digital data 626. This study is a basic research for introduction of smart library and it is necessary to conduct another study of a plan for future revitalization of digital materials and librarians' awareness on introduction of smart library.

The purpose of this study is to suggest a mid- to long-term expansion plan to resolve the blind spot and alleviate the imbalance of public library services in Daegu City. The research methods for this purpose included literature review, related laws and statistical data analysis, case study, and opinion survey. As a result, the first service area was set as a total of 14 areas based on administrative districts(Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Nam-gu, and Dalseong-gun each have one, Dong-gu and Buk-gu each have two, and Suseong-gu and Dalseo-gu have three each). Second, the expansion scenario for public libraries in Daegu City was proposed to add 26 libraries by the final target year (2032) based on the trend of national library growth over the past 13 years (2008-2020) and the forecast for the next 10 years (2023-2032). Third, the construction scenarios for each basic local government, excluding the Daegu representative library, are as follows: One library each in Jung-gu, Seo-gu, and Nam-gu; two libraries in Suseong-gu; three libraries in Dalseong-gun; four libraries in Dong-gu; and seven libraries each in Buk-gu and Dalseo-gu. In terms of floor area, it is proposed to add a total of 17 branch libraries with a minimum legal standard of 330-2,499㎡, four central libraries with 2,500-4,999㎡ each, and four central libraries with 5,000-9,999㎡ each. On the premise of these conditions, Daegu City and public libraries should focus on creating an inclusive and open community space, creating a digital platform, strengthening the library operation and cooperation system centered on Daegu representative library, developing collections and specializing services for local hub libraries, enhancing various knowledge information and program services, managing key library indicators and improving social contribution.

This study intended to examine and analyze current status of CD-ROM use in reference and information service in major university libraries. 66 university libraries with holdings of over 200,000 were selected throughout the country, and questionnaires were sent out by mail for data collection. Current status of CD-ROM use, some issues and problems on CD-ROM searching by reference librarians and users, and future trends of CD-ROM use were examined. Few suggestions were made for the effective CD-ROM use in reference and information service.

최근 대학도서관들은 정보화 환경에 대한 능동적 대처를 위하여 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 교수나 학생의 연구, 교육, 학습에 필요한 각종 전자 정보원을 한 장소에서 검색, 열람이 가능하고 대학의 구성원들에게 새로운 정보기술과 정보의 활용 능력을 교육시키기 위한 다양한 기능을 가진 하나의 복합 공간으로서 전자 정보실 또는 멀티미디어실(이하 멀 티미디어실) 등을 설치, 운영하고 있다 그러나 아직도 대학도서관 내의 멀티미디어실의 역할과 개념이 모호하다는 지적이 나오고 있다. 이러한 가운데 운영면에서도 표준 솔루션의 부재로 관리 전산화가 이루어져 있는 곳이 부족하여 인력 및 시간의 낭비가 초래되고 이용자 관리에 있어서 어려움을 겪고 있는 실정이다. 체계적인 운영이 이루어지지 않고서는 양질의 서비스 제공은 기대하기 어려울 것이다. 따라서 전국 대학 도서관에 적용할 수 있는 표준적인 멀티미디어실 관리 시스템의 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 UML(Unified Modeling Language) 기반의 정보시스템 구축 방법론을 제시하고, 제시된 방법론의 유효성(effectiveness)을 검증하기 위하여, 본 방법론에 입각하여 동국대학교 경주캠퍼스의 멀티미디어실 업무 프로세스를 분석 설계하였다. 시스템 구현을 위해서, 데이터 베이스로는 Oracle RDBMS를, 개발도구로는 Visual Basic 6.0을 사용하였다 본 논문에서 구현된 시스템을 통하여 멀티미디어실의 효과적인 운영관리에 대한 기반정립에 기여하고, 향후 장기적인 발전계획 수립에 하나의 도구로서 사용될 수 있다고 판단된다.

This study is to maximize the efficiency of university libraries' human resources management by determining the followings : the relationship between the level of information technology(1T) implement and the job satisfaction of the librarians, the main factors that affect job satisfaction, and how organizational characteristics and individual characteristics affect job satisfaction. Questionnaire was sent to 485 librarians from 27 universities chosen by stratified sampling and the methods of ANOVA, T-test, and correlation analysis were used. The results of the analysis are as follows. 1) there is a significant difference in the level of job satisfaction and the motivation factor according to the level of implementation of IT. 2) There is a relatively high correlation among the participation in decision making, the leadership in implementing the IT, the IT support of the CEO and job satisfaction. 3) There is a significant difference in job satisfaction by the level of computer skills, and a relatively high correlation is shown in the training experience while implementing the IT and job satisfaction.

This paper investigats the state of the art of the school library media specialist(SLMS)'s certification in the United States. The content includes development of the SLMS certification, certification requirements, titles, preparatory education programs especially accredited by ALA and NCATE, personnel standards and regulations of states. The basic certification requirements are teacher certification and/or MLIS(MLS), but varying from state to state. Personnel standards are regulated by the Education Department of states, otherwise regional associations of colleges and schools. Nineteen states have the standards and three regional associations among six have very specified ones. The paper also analyzes NBPTS for Library Media and discussions on '65% Solution' which is an education reform movement affecting school library seriously.

To find out the status of document delivery and interlibrary loan services and the use of information technology in special libraries, questionnaires were sent to 328 special Libraries nation wide with at least 1 librarian, listed In the Korean Libraries Statistics 1994-1995(1996). $46.6\%$ were returned and 152 Questionnaires were analyzed. For document delivery, $61.3\%$ use BLDSC$47.5\%$ use KINITI. 87 libararies $(57.2\%)$ participate In interlibrary loan activities. To send requests, FAX and telephone is used the most, while FAX and print copy is used the most to receive the requested documents. $45-75\%$ use various information technology including online databases, Internet, e-mail, etc., and the use of information technology was related to the budget of the libraries. The costs, budgets, and slowness was the problems raised by the most. To improve the document delivery services, the most urgent thing is establishing cooperative system using BBS or Internet. Network systems to facilitate interlibrary loan should be established ultimately.

This study aims to present directions for improving information services of medical libraries in small and medium-sized hospitals by exploring the information use behavior and information needs of nurses, medical technicians, and pharmacists who had not been studied. The research design was conducted based on the reviewing theoretical background studies, and in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with nurses, medical technicians, and pharmacists working in small and medium-sized hospitals. The results show their information needs, information use behavior, and perceptions of the medical library in the hospital. Based on these results, this study suggests ways to improve the information services provided by medical libraries in hospitals. This research is meaningful because it was first to explore the information use behavior and information needs of health care professionals working in small and medium-sized hospitals.

The purpose of this study is to identify the status and also to develop improvement plans for the children and youth services of the public libraries. To determine the information service status and the librarians' perceptions on the levels of services they provided, the 2016 Korean National Library Statistics System data and the survey results from the children and youth program librarians in the 108 public libraries were analyzed. The analysis revealed the problems such as lack of human resources and budget, shortage of space, and an inflexible program curriculum, which affect the program as a whole negatively. Five suggestions were made to remedy the problems. They are: 1) development of the new programs, which can interest the children and youth and motivate the sense of association among the program participants; 2) increase the number of the programs including the schools and other related organizations nearby region; 3) incorporating the new program formats to enhance the participation; 4) starting the new services explicitly targeted for the information-poor group of people; and 5) soliciting policy-level support for the libraries. In summary, this study made a few suggestions for the libraries ranging from planning the programs to requesting assistance from the national as well as the regional governments.
