  • This study attempted to determine the relationship between college students' motivation for major selection (personal motivation, social motivation), academic performance, and career maturity, and to identify the influencing factors of career maturity in order to provide basic data for improving career maturity. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire from 199 university students in C city. As a result of examining the correlation between personal motivation for major selection, social motivation, academic achievement, and career maturity, career maturity showed a significant positive correlation with personal motivation for major selection (r=.417, p=.00) and no significant correlation with social motivation for major selection and academic achievement. The influencing factors of career maturity were personal motivation for major selection, economic activity, and major department, and the explanatory power was 24%. Therefore, it seems that university-level support is needed to enable students to engage in economic activities in fields related to their majors. Since personal motivation is important in major selection, we should focus on increasing personal motivation for major selection by providing high school students with a wide range of opportunities, such as career experience and future work experience.

This was conducted to confirm the difference in the effect of satisfaction. Comparison of changes in groups of experimental groups with action learning teaching methods showed significant differences in self-directed learning skills, problem-solving skills, and major satisfaction(p<.001)(p<.05). A significant difference in self-directed learning ability, problem-solving ability, and major satisfaction was also shown in the comparison of changes in control groups that applied traditional teaching methods(p<.05). Comparison of changes between groups showed significant differences in self-directed learning skills, problem-solving skills and major satisfaction(p<.05). Applying the action learning teaching method to the level of students in the convergence course will improve self-directed learning skills, problem-solving skills, and major satisfaction, and further research will be needed to expand the target and add variables to combine qualitative research.

  • Undergraduate freshmen are currently encountering numerous difficulties in adapting to college life due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, several studies have underlined the need to develop interventions focused on undergraduate students' resilience during this situation. We adopted the service design method in identifying the difficulties faced by undergraduate freshmen during this pandemic, and also developed interventions for raising their resilience. The service design method is a person-centered approach which adopts the user's viewpoint in developing solutions, thereby enabling their requirements to be satisfied. Surveys and in-depth interviews revealed that undergraduate freshmen were experiencing psycho-emotional problems which were derived from schoolwork and college life. This is particularly the case with students who are experiencing greater levels of academic difficulty, and were insufficiently equipped with resources such as stress-coping strategies and social support. Four undergraduate freshmen were recruited online to test the effectiveness of a resource promotion program aimed at enhancing their resilience. This program has proved to be helpful in relieving daily/academic stress and in building relationships among freshmen, regarding which the participants showed a high level of satisfaction. The results were discussed by focusing on psycho-emotional difficulties and resources of college freshmen, as well as the effectiveness of the resource promotion program. Further research is required in order to verify the efficiency of the program and to confirm conclusions.
