Skin color segmentation techniques have been widely utilized for face/hand detection and tracking in many applications such as a diagnosis system using facial information, human-robot interaction, an image retrieval system. In case of a video image, it is common that the skin color model for a target is updated every frame for the robust target tracking against illumination change. As for a single image, however, most of studies employ a fixed skin color model which may result in low detection rate or high false positive errors. In this paper, we propose a novel method for effective skin color segmentation in a single image, which modifies the conditions for skin color segmentation iteratively by the image feedback of segmented skin color region in a given image.
With the emergence of ubiquitous computing era, various models for providing personalized service have been proposed, and, especially, several recommendation service schemes have been proposed to give tailored services to users proactively. However, the previous recommendation service schemes utilize a wide range of data without and filtering and consider the limited context-aware information to predict user preferences so that they are not adequate to provide personalized service to users. In this paper, we propose an adaptive recommendation service scheme which proactively provides suitable services based on the current context. We use accumulated interaction contexts (IC) between users and devices for predicting the user's preferences and recommend adaptive service based on the current context by utilizing clustering and collaborative filtering. The clustering algorithm improves efficiency of the recommendation service by focusing and analyzing the data that is collected from the locations nearby the users. Collaborative filtering guarantees an accurate recommendation, even when the data is insufficient. Finally, we evaluate the performance and the reliability of the proposed scheme by simulations.
Collective Adaptive System is an adaptive multi-agent system which accomplishes its goal by collaborating various agents. Because the collective property of the Collective Adaptive System is accomplished by the goal of the system being based on collaboration, testing the goal accomplishment and their interactions among heterogeneous agents is important. This paper presents a feasibility study of applying a model-based testing approach using task-based test model to a Collective Adaptive System. This paper describes additional information to be applied for Collective Adaptive System for future studies. To analyze our approach, we applied the proposed approach to a smart home system as a case study; our results indicated that we can systematically derive test cases to check whether the Collective Adaptive System successfully achieved its goals by modifying and extending the existing task model.
In order to provide quality services across international airports, airline personnel must rapidly and effectively develop and share knowledge. Combining components of adaptive structuration theory (AST) and media synchronicity theory (MST), a research framework was developed to convey three distinct stages of knowledge sharing. We use the grounded theory research method for the qualitative data collected from audio transcripts of employees learning how to use and work with company issued smartphones with push-to-talk functionalities. Data was collected from 33 operations personnel. The results of the content analysis are recorded for the elements of each of the three concepts of our research framework. During the social interaction stage, the content of the audio conversations shifts mainly from conflict management to task management; for media synchronicity, from quality to quantity; for productive outcomes, from efficiency to commitment. New insights are uncovered from our analysis of data from the field as users advance from learning how to use the mobile devices, to using the devices for managing knowledge for their work in the airline industry.

The paper describes a method of user feedback in order to enhance the retrieval effectiveness. In this paper, to overcome a weak point of the existing feedback function adapting fuzzy technique, we proposed the interaction function using gaussian function that gives different learning rate according to choice of components with same function. And, we grade degree that the user opinion is reflected to a system by applying user profile to the feedback function. User retrieval feedback method is adaptive retrieval method that makes a slow change for a long time using feedback function adapting gaussian function and user profile.
This study analyzes the effects of the self-esteem on the life satisfaction of 2,040 middle school senior students using the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2012 Data (KCYPS 2012) provided by the National Youth Policy Institute. In the ecological perspectives, this study considers two factors which influence the life satisfaction of the students; one factor is the environmental characteristics like parent intimacy, friend intimacy, teacher intimacy and study adaptation, and the other factor is the individual characteristics. In particular, self-esteem as one of the individual characteristics is divided into two separate categories, positive self and negative self. The two categories are found to have some interaction effects on the life satisfaction at the evaluation level. The effects of the negative self-evaluation on the life satisfaction appear to be different depending on the level of the positive self-evaluation. As the level of the positive self-evaluation becomes higher, the effects of the negative self-evaluation on the life satisfaction decreases. The life satisfaction becomes higher as the level of the negative self-evaluation is lower, and the life satisfaction is not high relatively at the low level of the positive self-evaluation. These results suggest that solving the adolescent's negative self-formation problem can not bring out the positive self-formation and there should be some plans for the positive self-formation more than simply solving the negative self- formation problem in order to improve the life satisfaction.
Plant secondary metabolites play an important role in insect-plant interactions. Herbivorous insects have various strategies to cope with the plant defensive compounds. Polyphagous insects feed on a wide variety of plant species, and their detoxification mechanisms are more complex since they tend to respond to a large array of different plant-derived chemicals. Alternatively, oligophagous insects specialize on only a few related plant species and may be expected to have a more efficient form of adaptation. This adaptation could involve either the production of large quantities of enzymes to detoxify their defensive compounds or the sequestration of the compounds or their metabolites. The oriental tobacco budworm, Helicoverpa assulta, is a specialist herbivore, feeding on a few plants of Solanaceae, such as tobacco and hot pepper. Understanding its host-plant adaptation not provides an important insight on physiology, ecology and evolution of specialist herbivores, but also gives a clue to develop management strategies of the pest species such as H. assulta. This paper briefly reviews the specialist, H. assulta, focusing on its host range, larval associations with the host plants, and detoxification mechanisms to nicotine and capsaicin, two characteristic defensive compounds derived from its two major host plants, tobacco and hot pepper, respectively. It summarizes the relevant research over the last half century and provides a future perspective on this subject.
The aim of this paper is to propose a communication middleware which makes it possible to easily and efficiently develop the networking support for multi-user applications. Even though existing middleware and development tools provides lots of functionalities to realize distributed applications, they are purely low-level services passing the most development efforts to developers, or too specialized for a specific application. It brings a challenging issue of how the middleware supports general and efficient high-level mechanisms. To meet different networking and interaction requirements of multi-user applications, we propose various schemes to provide the communication architecture, the user membership management, the content transmission mechanism and the event management. Our middleware provides developers with application-level APIs and configuration files so that the different interaction requirements of a multi-user application can be easily handled in the developers' point of view.
Knowledge ecosystem means a dynamic knowledge circulation, including knowledge creation, exchange and sharing and utilization. It is also the field of knowledge practice, which creates interactions in knowledge exchange between people and groups. The key premises of knowledge ecosystem, based on the nature of general ecosystems, can be characterized as follows: first, it primarily focuses on social networks between people and organizations participating in the process of knowledge circulation; secondly, knowledge ecosystem thrives on diversity of knowledge; and thirdly, it is significant for selection of valuable knowledge and adoption of appropriate knowledge. This review attempts to make a systematic examination of a wide range of existing studies on knowledge ecosystem. In so doing, it is expected to provide a basis for further inquiry into more critical and complicated issues. Although the scarcity of existing research-at least those in Korea-may limit the implications of findings, this review offers a set of suggestions for future research.

Recently, role-based distributed system models have been proposed to support adaptive interactions in ubiquitous application environment. A Role-based distributed model regards an application as an organization composed of roles, and separate players running role processes from the roles. When an application is running, it binds a role with a player, and the player runs dynamically assigned role processes provided by an application for supporting adaptability. However, there has not been much attention on researches about development and runtime environment for role-based distributed systems. In this paper we suggest an application framework as an environment for developing and executing role-base distributed systems. The application framework is divided into two parts: an organization framework to manage and construct an organization composed of roles necessary in the application, and a player framework to provide running environment for players. In this paper, we focus on the organization framework which supports the creation and management of organizations, directory service for players and allocation of players to roles, and message brokering between roles and players. The proposed framework makes developers to be able to develop highly adaptive distributed systems in the ubiquitous environment.
