FPGA Design of Adaptive Digital Receiver for Wireless Identification (무선인식을 위한 적응적 디지털 수신기의 FPGA 설계)

  • In this paper we propose and implement a digital part of a receiver system for identifying a moving object and its tracking position in wireless environment. We assumed UWB(Ultra Wide Band)-based communication system for target application and used serial communication method(RS-232). The proposed digital receiver consists of RS-232-type1/RS-232-type2 for input and output of serial communication, ID Detector for detecting IDs, and PISO&Buffer circuit to buffer input signals for appropriate operation of ID Detector. We implemented the digital receiver with minimal hardware(H/W) resource according to target application of UWB-based communication system. So it correlates input patterns with pre-stored patterns though repeated detecting method for multiple IDs. Since it has reference panerns in the Ve-stored form, it can detect various IDs instantly. Also we can program content and size of reference patterns considering compatibility with other systems .The implemented H/W was mapped into XC2S100PQ208-5 FPGA of Xilinx, occupied 727($30\%$) cells, and stably operated in the clock frequency of 75MHz(13.341ns).

  • Nowadays, with the rapid spread of streaming services in the internet world, security vulnerabilities are also increasing rapidly. For streaming security, this paper proposes a PN(pseudo-random noise) distributed structure-based security processor for web streaming contents(SP-WSC). The proposed SP-WSC is basically a PN distributed code algorithm designed for web streaming characteristics, so it can secure various multimedia contents. The proposed SP-WSC is independent of the security vulnerability of the web server. Therefore, SP-WSC can work regardless of the vulnerability of the web server. That is, the SP-WSC protects the multimedia contents by increasing the defense against external unauthorized signals. Incidentally it also suggests way to reduce buffering due to traffic overload.

  • 최근 모바일 비디오 스트리밍 서비스의 이용자 수가 증가하고 있다. 이에 따라 모바일 환경에 적합한 DASH 비디오 스트리밍 메커니즘이 연구되었고, 이것을 DQN 기법에 의해 개선한 알고리즘은 모바일 네트워크 환경에서 적절한 비디오 품질 선택을 통해 버퍼링을 크게 줄일 수 있었다. 그러나 이는 모바일 요금제로 비디오 스트리밍 서비스를 이용하는 사용자들에게 안정적인 서비스를 제공하기 어렵다. 이에 본 논문은 기존의 DQN 기법에 의한 알고리즘을 발전시켜 사용자의 모바일 요금제에 적합한 비디오 품질을 선택하는 알고리즘을 연구하고 성능 실험 결과를 분석한다. 또한 이 알고리즘을 전체 모바일 비디오 스트리밍 시스템과 통합하여 이용하도록 제안한다.

  • Fur rendering is difficult in that there are huge numbers of objects and it takes so much time. The previous method considers fur as cylinder, transforms it into 2D ribbon, triangulates and commits rendering. But this method has problem like under sampling and takes rendering time so long. To resolve these shortcuts we proposed new algorithm. We divide fur into thick and thin fur and we applied adaptive rendering methods for each type of fur. Also we can perform an effective rendering according to the proposed rendering framework.

Performance of Energy Efficient Optical Ethernet Systems with a Dynamic Lane Control Scheme (동적 레인 제어방식을 적용한 에너지 절감형 광 이더넷 시스템의 성능분석)

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic lane control scheme with a traffic predictor module and a rate controller for reconciling with commercial optical PHY modules in energy efficient optical Ethernet systems. The commercial high speed optical Ethernet system capable of 40/100Gbps employs 4 or 10 multiple optical transceivers over WDM or multiple optical links. Each of the transceivers is always turned on even if the link is idle. To save energy, we propose the dynamic lane control scheme. It allows that several links may be entirely turned off in a low traffic load and frames are handled on the remaining active links. To preserve the byte order even if the number of active links may be changed, we propose a rate controller to be sat on the reconciliation sublayer. The main role of the controller is to insert null byte streams into the xGMII of inactive lanes. For the PHY module, the null input streams corresponding to inactive lanes will be disregarded on inactive PMDs. It is very handy to implement the rate controller module with MAC in FPGA without any modification of commercial PHYs. It is very crucial to determine the number of active links based on the fluctuated traffic load, we provide a simple traffic predictor based on both the current transmission buffer size and the past one with different weighting factors for adapting to the traffic load fluctuation. Using the OMNET++ simulation framework, we provide several performance results in terms of the energy consumption.

  • One of the most effective ways to improve cache performance is to exploit both temporal and spatial locality given by any program executional characteristics. This paper proposes a data cache with small space for low power but high performance on multimedia applications. The basic architecture is a split-cache consisting of a direct-mapped cache with small block sire and a fully-associative buffer with large block size. To overcome the disadvantage of small cache space, two mechanisms are enhanced by considering operational behaviors of multimedia applications: an adaptive multi-block prefetching to initiate various fetch sizes and an efficient block filtering to remove rarely reused data. The simulations on MediaBench show that the proposed 5KB-cache can provide equivalent performance and reduce energy consumption up to 40% as compared with 16KB 4-way set associative cache.

A Modification of The Fuzzy Logic Based DASH Adaptation Algorithm for Performance Improvement (성능 향상을 위한 퍼지 논리 기반 DASH 알고리즘의 수정)

  • In this paper, we propose a modification of fuzzy logic based DASH adaptation algorithm(FDASH) for seamless media service in time-varying network conditions. The proposed algorithm selects more appropriate bit-rate for the next segment by the modification of the Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) and reduces the number of video bit-rate changes by applying Segment Bit-rate Filtering Module(SBFM). Also, we apply the Start Mechanism for clients not to watch the low quality videos in the very beginning stage of streaming service and add the Sleeping Mechanism to avoid any buffer overflow expected. Ultimately, we verified by using NS-3 Network Simulator that the proposed method shows better performance compared to FDASH. According to the experimental results, there is no buffer underflow/overflow within the limited buffer size, which is not guaranteed in FDASH on the other hand. Also, we confirmed that mFDASH has almost the same level of average video quality against FDASH and reduces about 50% of number of video bit-rate changes compared to FDASH in Point-to-Point network and Wi-Fi network.

Adaptive Subtraction Method for Removing Variable Powerline Interference of ECG (ECG 신호의 가변적인 전력선 잡음 제거를 위한 적응형 차감기법)

  • Power-line interference(PLI) can distort certain regions in analysing the ECG signal. In particular, the regions such as P and R wave that are important element in diagnosing with arrhythmia is expressed as different type of noise according to the case whether power-line frequency is multiples of sampling frequency and or not. Noise characteristics is also divided into linearity and non-linearity. In this paper, adaptive subtraction method for removing variable PLI of ECG signal is proposed. We classify the multiple relationship between power line and sampling frequency as Multiple and Non-multiple. PLI of Linear segment is extracted through moving average filter, PLI of non-linear segment is extracted through the interference component that is extracted in the linear segment and stored in the temporary buffer. The performance of P wave and R wave detection is evaluated by using 119 data record of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The achieved scores indicate P wave detection rate of 97.91%, R wave detection rate of 96.66% and P wave detection rate of 99.01%, R wave detection rate of 97.93% accuracy respectively for Notch filter and proposed subtraction method.
