Jacking Penetration Resistance of Bucket Foundations in Silty Sand Using Centrifuge Modelling (실트질모래 지반에서 버켓기초의 압입저항력에 대한 원심모형실험 연구)

  • Penetration resistance of bucket foundations with skirt wall in the silty sand of the western coast of Korea was analyzed by centrifuge modelling. The penetration resistance is induced when the bucket foundations are jacked into the soil without suction, and is directly related to the self-weight penetration depth. The procedure by Houlsby and Byrne (2005), which takes into account the effect of stress increase by frictional resistance of skirt wall, was utilized to generate the penetration resistance similar to the experimental results. This paper describes the methods by which major parameters such as lateral earth pressure coefficient and friction angle between the skirt wall and the soil are evaluated. The effect of changes in these parameters on the predictions is analyzed. Also, observed soil behaviour during jacking penetration is investigated.

Influence of Lateral Ballast Resistance on the Buckling Fragility Curve of the Continuous Welded Rail Tracks (장대레일 궤도의 좌굴 취약도 곡선에 대한 도상횡저항력의 영향)

  • 기존 장대레일 궤도의 안정성 평가는 궤도 매개변수에 대하여 고정된 안전측의 값을 사용하는 결정론적인 해석에 의존해서 평가되어져 왔다. 그러나 실제현장의 궤도조건은 많은 영향인자들에 의해 그 특성이 불확실하게 변하고 있다. 따라서 온도하중에 의한 궤도 좌굴에 영향을 미치는 궤도 구성인자들의 불확실성 및 임의성을 보다 합리적으로 고려하기 위해서 확률론적 기법을 적용하는 것이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 기존 본 연구진에 의해 개발된 장대레일 궤도의 좌굴확률 평가시스템을 이용하여 좌굴 취약도 곡선을 나타내었으며, 궤도 좌굴에 영향을 미치는 주요변수 중 하나인 도상횡저항력에 대한 영향을 분석하였다. 좌굴확률 평가시스템에서는 장대레일 궤도의 좌굴확률을 산정하기 위하여 구조물의 안정과 파괴를 판단할 수 있는 기준을 한계상태방정식으로 표현하고, 이 한계상태방정식으로부터 확률론적 기법 중 하나인 AFOSM(Advanced First Order Second Moment) 방법을 이용하여 파괴확률의 간접적인 지표인 신뢰도지수(${\beta}$)를 통해 좌굴확률을 계산한다. 한계상태방정식에서 구조물의 강도(보유성능)에 해당하는 부분은 궤도의 허용좌굴온도이고, 하중(요구성능)에 해당하는 부분은 레일온도하중으로써 현재 레일온도와 중립온도의 차로 반영된다. 허용좌굴온도 산정에 고려되는 주요변수는 곡선반경(Radius), 도상횡저항력(Lateral Ballast Resista nce), 연직도상강성(Vertical Ballast Stiffness), 궤도 틀림량(Misalignment), 틀림길이(Half Wave Length), 열차운행속도(Velocity)이다. 각 확률변수들이 갖는 확률분포는 모두 정규분포로 가정하였다. 궤도의 기하학적 특성은 곡선반경 5,000m에 대해 고려하였으며, 열차는 KTX의 제원을 사용하여 정지된 상태에서 고려하였다. 틀림량과 틀림길이는 이에 대한 통계적 특성자료가 부족하여 확률변수로 고려하지 않고 결정론적 값으로 취급하였다. 레일온도의 통계적 특성치는 본 연구진에 의해 구축된 기후요소 및 레일온도 DB를 근거로 결정하였으며, 중립온도는 선로관리지침에 따라 $25{\pm}3^{\circ}C$를 기준으로 결정하였다. 또한 도상횡저항력은 실측 데이터를 참고로 하여 평균값에서 10%의 변동량을 갖는 것으로 보고 통계적 특성치를 결정하였다. 도상횡저항력이 좌굴확률에 미치는 영향을 매우 큰 것을 알 수 있었으며, 레일온도 $60^{\circ}C$일 때 도상횡저항력이 증가하면서 감소되는 좌굴확률이 도상저항력이 커질수록 그 감소량이 작아지는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Derivation of Estimating Formulas for Seismic Strength of RC Frames Designed to Gravity Loads (중력하중에 대하여 설계된 RC 골조의 내진 저항력 추정식의 유도)

  • The seismic design regulations have not been applied to the low-rised buildings which are less than 6 stories in Korea. For these buildings which are designed only for gravity loads, theoretical formulas which can estimate the seismic strength of building are derived. The column hinge sway and beam hinge sway mechanism are assumed for the formulars. For the comparisons with the formulas, the results of push-over analyses of 3 and 4 storied buildings are used. It can be shown that the estimating formulas correspond well with the push-over analyses. And the seismic strength of building has a little relations with the number of bay and becomes larger as the building becomes lower. Also, as the ratio and strength of reinforcing steel increase, the seismic strength of building is increased.

Suggestion of Evaluation Formula for Skin Resistance of SIP (SIP말뚝의 주면저항력 예측 모델 제안)

  • The environmental problem due to the pile driving, the use of low noise-vibration auger-drilled pilling is increasing to solve noise and vibration problem in pilling. Therefore, in Korea, SIP (Soil-Cement Injected Precast Pile) method is mainly used as auger-drilled pilling. However, a proper bearing capacity evaluation formula has not been suggested, yet. In order to improve and supplement this situation, direct shear tests between SIP pile skin interface and soil were executed under various conditions. Through the analysis of test results, skin resistance characteristics of SIP were investigated thoroughly. Also, the nonlinear unit skin resistance capacity model and relative parameters evaluation formula with SM, SC soil were suggested.

The Evaluation of Bearing Resistance of Underreamed Ground Anchor through Realistic Model Experiments (실모형실험을 통한 지압형 앵커의 지압력 평가)

  • The Ground anchor is reinforcement to resist pull-out through ground that is used supports structure. The pull-out resistance of anchor is constructed by skin friction resistance from compression borehole wall in expanded wings and bearing pressure from the ground. Especially, underreamed ground anchor is reinforcement that adopts active reinforcement to prevent deformation of ground using bearing resistance generated reaming anchorage. This study is conducted to calculate bearing resistance of underreamed ground anchor. Realistic model tests were fulfilled to determine bearing resistance of anchor, and correlate results of tests to Uniaxial Compressive Strengths (UCS) of ground models that assumed weathered rock condition in 8 case. In a comprehensive series of the tests, the bearing resistances were measured by pull-out tests. The bearing resistances derived from tests have a linear correlation with UCS. We also suggest empirical equation between bearing resistance and UCS of rocks by single linear regression analyses. In test results of this study, the bearing resistances were evaluated approximately 13 times higher than UCS of the grounds, and it is qualitatively similar to numerical values of pull-out force derived from theory.

Resistance Increasing Factor of Connected-pile Foundation for Transmission Tower in Clay (점토지반에 근입된 송전철탑 연결형 말뚝기초의 저항력증가계수)

  • Pile foundation for transmission tower constructed in weak ground can cause the damage of the tower due to the different settlement between the foundations. In Japan and USA, connected-pile foundations whose 4 foundations are connected each other by beams were used for transmission tower (TEPCO 1988, IEEE 2001). Resistance increasing factors for connected-pile foundation signify increasing amount of resistance due to the effect of connected-pile material. In this study, we performed model lateral load tests of connected-pile foundations for transmission tower and found the resistance increasing factors for connected-pile foundation. The tests were performed in silty clay, and the resistance increasing factors were founded in various conditions that lateral load directions and height, the stiffness of beams in the connected-pile foundations were changed. The resistance increasing factors from our research were presented as a function of normal lateral loading height and normal stiffness of the connected-pile material. The resistances which were estimated from the resistance increasing factors were similar to measured values.

Study on the Measurement of Liquid Limit Using a Penetration Resistance of Small Cone in Clay Soil (소형콘의 관입저항력을 이용한 점토의 액성한계측정에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated both water content and penetration resistance of small cone of various clay soils that were made of Kaolinite and Bentonite with different mixing ratios and compared the results with those of the existing dynamic (Casagrande test) and static (fall cone test) tests directly. The comparison showed that the water content at the inflection point on a curve of water content and penetration resistance was very similar to the liquid limit from a fall cone test. The penetration resistance of small cone at the inflection point was 0.2 kPa, and it was ascertained that the water content at the inflection point represents a liquid limit of clay soils. From the study results, it was found that the penetration resistance of 0.2 kPa with the small cone can be an indicator of the liquid limit of clay soils in practice. Finally a test procedure to measure the liquid limit of clay soil based on a penetration resistance of small cone was proposed.

The Uplift Capacity of Plane and Corrugated Piles for Pipe Frame Greenhouse (파이프 골조온실의 민말뚝과 주름말뚝의 인발저항력)

  • The uplift capacity of a pile for improving the wind resistance of the 1-2 W type plastic film pipe on greenhouses was tested using the plane and corrugated piles with various shapes and diameters. First, the resistant uplift capacity was measured by using the uplift loading on plane piles. As the uplift loading on plane piles increased, the resistant uplift capacity also increased until the loading was reached to ultimate uplift capacity. After ultimate uplift capacity was appeared the uplift displacement, the uplift capacity was decreased gradually. Secondly, the resistant uplift capacity was measured by using the uplift loading on corrugated piles. After the uplift capacity was reached the uplift displacement, the uplift capacity was continually increased or decreased. In general, the ultimate uplift capacity was independent of pile shapes, pile diameter length, and embedded pipe depth. However, the ultimate uplift capacity of a corrugated pile was twice more than that of a plane pile without regard to its diameter and embedded depth. The ultimate uplift capacity per unit pile area was increasing in deeper embedded depth. However, the longer a pile diameter was, the less ultimate uplift capacity. The uplift capacity of a plane pile, used in conjunction with the design wind velocity (26.9m.s$^{-1}$ ) of the project area, was unsatisfiable without regard to diameters and embedded depths of piles, while most of corrugated piles were well appeared uplift capacity under various experimental conditions.

Determination of Uplift Capacity of Pile in Sand (모래 지반에 위치한 말뚝의 인발 저항력)

  • This paper examines the conventional methods to estimate the uplift capacity of the piles in sands and points out the limitations of each methods. And the modified method to estimate the uplift capacity more correctly is proposed. The comparisons between each theoretical values and the reported experimental results show that Meyerhof method tends to underestimate the uplift capacity for dense sands, but to overestimate for medium and loose sands. Of the analytical methods, Chattopadhyay and Pise method is most agreeable to the experimental data. But the difference between the measured values and the analytical ones is significant. This difference can be reduced by the modification of the failure surface proposed by Chattopadyay and Pise.
