The purpose of this research is to determine the calibration constants of the wind speed measurement systems required to calculate the wind tunnel velocity in the test section. In the present work, the aerodynamic calibration tests of the test section were conducted in the Agency for Defense Development's Low-Speed Wind Tunnel. The test speed ranged from 10 to 100 m/s with a reference pitot-static pressure probe. The validity of the calibration results was evaluated by comparing them with the previous calibration constants. The calibration results show that fair to good agreement is obtained with resonable accuracy.

The paper deals with the computational approach in analysis and design of pantograph panhead strips of high-speed railway in aerodynamic and aeroacoustic concerns. Pantograph is an equipment such that the electric power is supplied from catenary system to train. Due to the nature of complexity in high-speed fluid flow, turbulence and downstream vortices result in the instability in the aerodynamic contact between panhead strips and catenary system, and consequently generate the considerable levels of flow-induced sound. In this paper, based on the preceding low speed wind-tunnel test and simulations, the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic characteristics in low speed are analyzed.

The Magnus effect measurement apparatus was designed and built for spinning wind tunnel model which would simulate the rotation of projectiles. Prior to the high speed test, the ground functional test and the low speed test were carried out in the Agency for Defense Development's Low Speed Wind Tunnel(ADD-LSWT) at spin rates from about 6,000 to 10,000 rpm. Magnus force and moment were measured on the spinning projectile model at velocity of 100 m/s. It was shown that the Magnus force and moment were linear function of spin parameter. The test results were compared with Magnus test run on the same configuration in the Arnold Engineering Development Center's Propulsion Tunnel 4T(AEDC-4T).

During the conceptual design phase of a canard type high maneuverable aircraft, the low speed small scale wind tunnel test was conducted to investigate the high angle-of-attack static stability of the aircraft. In this study, 1/50th scale generic canard-body-wing model was used for the small scale wind tunnel test. For the analysis of static stability including high angle-of-attack nonlinear characteristics, the vertical tail effects were studied due to canard deflections. In addition, the nose chine effects were studied at high angle-of-attack. Based on the results obtained from the experimental study, the configuration change effects for canard type aircraft on high angle-of-attack static stability have been able to analyze.

In the field of aircraft icing prediction, surface roughness has been considered as critical factor because it enhances convective heat transfer and changes local collection efficiency. For this significance, experimental studies have been conducted to acquire the quantitative data of the formation process. Meanwhile, these experiments was conducted under low-speed condition due to the measurement difficulties. However, it has not been investigated that how the flow characteristic of low-speed will effects to the surface roughness. Therefore, the present study conducted experiment under low-speed icing condition, and analyzed the relation between surface roughness characteristics and icing condition. As an analysis method, the dominant parameters used in the previous high-speed experiments are employed, and roughness characteristics are compared. The size of roughness element was consistent with the previous known tendency, but not the smooth zone width.

In this paper, heat/mass transfer characteristics on a film cooled stationary rotor blade are investigated using the naphthalene sublimation method. A row-speed annular wind tunnel with a single annular turbine stage is used. Three rows of film cooling holes are machined on the leading edge of the test blade. Detailed heat/mass transfer distributions are measured with changing the blowing rate from 1.0 to 2.0. As the blowing ratio increases, overall heat/mass transfer increases and the lower peak formed on the pressure side were disappeared.

In this paper, the acoustic pressure of a helicopter rotor in hovering and low speed descent flight is predicted and compared with experimental data. Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation is used to predict the acoustic pressure. Two different wind tunnel test data are used to validate the predicted results. Boeing 360 model rotor test results are used for the low-frequency noise in hover, and HART II test results are employed for the mid-frequency noise, especially BVI noise, in low speed descent flight. A simple free-wake model as well as the state-of-the-art CFD/CSD coupling method are adopted to perform the analysis. Numerical results show good agreement against the measured data for both low-frequency and mid-frequency harmonic noise signal. The noise carpet results predicted using the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) shows also reasonable correlation with the measured data.

In this study, aerodynamic characteristics of the blades of a helical-type vertical axis wind turbine(VAWT) have been investigated. For this purpose, a 100-W helical-type vertical axis wind turbine was designed using a design formulae, and a 3D computational fluid dynamics analysis was performed considering wind tunnel test conditions. Through the results of the analysis, the aerodynamic power output and flow characteristics of a helical blade were confirmed. In order to validate the aerodynamic power output obtained through the analysis, a wind tunnel test was performed by using a full-scale helical-type vertical axis wind turbine. The 3D analysis technique was validated by comparing its results with those obtained from the wind tunnel test.

The performance test of an axial-type turbine is carried out with various axial gap distances between the stator and rotor. The turbine is operated at the low pressure and speed, and the degree of reaction is 0.373 at the mean radius. The axial-type turbine consists of ons-stage and 3-dimensional blades. The chord length of rotor is 28.2mm and mean diameter of turbine is 257.56mm. The power of turbo-blower for input power is 30kW and mass flow rate is $340m^3$/min at 290mmAq static-pressure. The RPM and output power are controlled by a dynamometer connected directly to the turbine shaft. The axial gap distances are changed from a quarter to three times of stator axial chord length, and performance curves are obtained with 9 different axial gaps. The efficiency varies about 8% of its peak value due to the variation of axial gap on the same non-dimensional mass flow rate and RPM, and experimental results show that the optimum axial gap is 1.6-1.9Cx.
