The decreased body, liver, kidney, spleen and testis weights of guinea pigs by TCDD (2,3,7,8-tetracholorodibenzo-${\rho}$-dioxin) treatment (TT) were statistically significantly increased after treating red ginseng saponin fraction (SF) (p>0.01). After treated with SF, the decreased hematocrits values and numbers of RBC and platelet, activity of amylase and lactate dehydrogenase, levels of uric acid, total protein and albumin by TT were increased, and the increased numbers of WBC, levels of triglyceride, total cholesterol (TC), LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus, activities of creatinine kinase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase were decreased after treated with SF. And they all had a statistical significance (p>0.01) except for RBC, WBC, platelet, blood glucose, TC, calcium and albumin. From these results, we knew that SF mollified the acute toxicity induced by TCDD in guinea pigs.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the BeHaS program on physical factors and self-esteem of the elderly women in a senior center. In this study, the BeHaS program for the elderly who had one or more risk factors for metabolic syndrome was conducted for 8 weeks, once a week, 1.5 hours a day. Data collection was measured 3 times at 8-week intervals. Physical factors were measured 3 times (Pretest1, Pretest2, posttest) and self-esteem were measured 2 times (Pretest2, posttest). Physical factors were analyzed using Repeated Measured ANOVA, and, self-esteem was analyzed using paired t-test. As the result of this study, it was confirmed that the BeHaS program is effective in managing obesity and blood glucose, reducing cholesterol, and improving self-esteem. Therefore, it is suggested that additional research is needed to improve the community health with metabolic syndrome.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of aerobic exercise and a protein diet on serum lipid profiles, liver function, and immunoglobulin levels in rats. The subjects, 24 male Sprague-Dawley rats, were grouped into an exercise with protein diet group (A, n=6), a protein diet group (B, n=6), an exercise group (C, n=6), and a control group (D, n=6). The exercise with protein group trained for 4 weeks (20-30 min/day, speed at 14~17 m/min) and was given a 40% protein diet for 4 weeks. The variables of serum lipid profiles, liver function, and immunoglobulin levels were measured in all of the subjects at the end of the 4 weeks of treadmill exercise. Serum TC and LDL-C levels were significantly decreased in the exercise with protein diet group compared to the other groups and serum HDL-C, GOP, and IgG were significantly higher than in the other groups. However, no significant differences were found for the IgA and IgM levels. In conclusion, aerobic exercise with a protein diet was effective in improving serum lipid profiles, liver function, and immunoglobulin.

Objectives: This study is to identify the effect of detraining on lipoprotein and body composition after 8 week calorie restriction and different level of aerobic exercise among obese middle-aged women. Methods: The 30 middle-aged women whose body fat were over 30% were randomly allocated into three groups of control, exercise group of 40% $VO_2$max level, and exercise group of 60% $VO_2$max level. All the participants were taught to record their calorie intake and restrict daily 500kcal intake. After eight-week exercise and daily 500kcal restriction, their body compositions and blood lipid levels were measured again. Results: The weight, BMI, body fat, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL-cholesterol levels showed significant decreases after eight-week exercise and calorie restriction in the two exercise groups. However, detraining tended to increase them again after detraining of 4 weeks, and even more after 8 weeks. Conclusions: Detrainging after calorie restriction and exercise tended to increase levels of indices for body composition and lipoprotein among obese middle-aged women.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of Hatha Yoga exercise on the body composition, serum lipids, and health-related fitness of obese middle-aged women. The subjects in the Hatha Yoga exercise group (n=9) were 18 obese middle-aged women that trained for 16 weeks and a control group (n=9). Body composition, serum lipids, and health-related fitness were measured in all of the subjects before the start of the training program and at the end of the 16 weeks. The findings of this study were as follows. Body weight, %BF, BMI, WHR, VFA, TC, TG, LDL-C, FFA, and HOMA-IR significantly decreased, whereas LBM, HDL-C, grip strength, back strength, push-ups, sit-ups, Harvard step test, and sitting trunk flexion significantly increased in the Hatha Yoga exercise group after 16 weeks. Therefore, regular and continuous Yoga exercise was effective in improving body composition, serum lipids, and health-related fitness. Consequently, Yoga exercise could be effective for preventing cardiovascular disease caused by obesity in middle-aged women.

Urinalyses have been conducted for 28 crew's in H University's training ship and creatine and uric acid turned out to be higher in all ages, which can be inferred that board job has caused negative impact on kidney and/or malfunction In addition, TC and HDL-C, LDL-C ha; decreased, however, TG has increased after the navigation. All different positions including officer, crew, decker, engineer and radio part showed the similar pattern TC and HDL-C has decreased in 30s, 40s and TG has increased in 30s. A few of the 30's show extremely high TG rates so hyperlipidemia is suspected. 7 members turned out positive for UBG test and 5 positive for PRO test. Especially there was only one UBG positive before the navigation but, 7 members has become positive, which means the one-month long-tenn navigation has definite impact on the liver cell function.

This is a non-experimental and retrospective study aimed at determining the effects of long-term hospitalization on the body mass index (BMI) and lipid metabolism in long-term hospitalized patients. The study subjects included 120 patients aged 40-65 years who were hospitalized for >3 months in 2 long-term care hospitals in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. In this study, the BMI and levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low density lipoprotein (LDL) at admission and 3 months after hospitalization were compared and analyzed, and the related changes over time were followed up. The general characteristics of the subjects were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and frequency analysis. In addition, logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the effects of the general characteristics on the BMI and Dyslipidemia. The changes in the BMI and blood lipid levels between admission and 3 months after hospitalization were analyzed using the paired t-test. The results showed that with regard to the changes in the blood lipid levels, the triglyceride levels significantly increased 3 months after hospitalization (p<.05). These findings imply that long-term hospitalization for care and rehabilitation after acute-phase treatment should be considered a potential high-risk factor for dyslipidemia, which could be prevented or alleviated by providing the patients with health education, including exercise and dietary education.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 12-week training on changes in physical fitness and cardiovascular factors for firefighters. For this purpose, 40 men in their 20s and 30s who agreed to participate voluntarily were recruited. They were divided into four groups: the firefighters' physical fitness test training group (hereinafter referred to as PT group), firefighters' physical fitness test and aerobic training group (hereinafter referred to as PT+AR group), firefighters' physical fitness test and both aerobic and anaerobic training group (hereinafter referred to as PT+CO group). Physical fitness factors (grip strength, back muscle strength, seated forward bend, standing long jump, sit-ups, 20-meter shuttle run), cardiovascular factors (total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, glucose, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure) and the relationship between Framingham Heart Risk Score and physical/cardiovascular factors were compared and analyzed, and the following conclusions were obtained. Aerobic training, anaerobic training, and combined training, including 12 weeks of firefighter physical examinations, all had positive effects on fitness and cardiovascular factors, which would be an appropriate way for firefighter examinees to improve physical strength and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
