  • The characteristics of NOx emission in reburning process have been experimentally studied. The design point of burner is creative of three distinct reaction zones; a primary flame zone that NOx producted, reburn zone to reduce the primary zone NOx and burnout zone. Liquefied Petroleum Gas(LPG) was used as main and reburn fuels. Process parameters investigated included main/reburn fuel ratio, primary/secondary air ratio, reborn fuel injector position and different designed quarl. The NOx emission characteristic of aerodynamic designed burner relied on reborn fuel ratio and was slightly affected by a reburn fuel injector position and quarl shape.

An Experimental Study on the Combustion Characteristics in Low Emission Multi-Staged Oil Burner (다단연소를 이용한 저 NOx 버너의 연소특성에 관한 연구)

  • The characteristics of combustion and emissions in multi-staged oil burner have been experimentally studied for the various range of equivalence ratios, drop sizes and fuel formulations. Malvern system was used to measure droplet size of fuel. Light fuel oil and light fuel oil doped with pyridine($C_5H _5N$) were used to investigate the effects on fuel NOx emission. The emissions of NO and CO in exhaust gas and the flame temperatures were measured by the gas analyzer and thennocouples. NOx emissions were increased by increasing the excess air ratio (range:$lambda=1.1-1.4$) or decreasing the SMD of droplet in single-staged burner. In comparison with the single-staged burner, the emission of NOx in multi-staged burner was reduced by 50% but CO emission was slightly increased. It is found that multi-staged burner has a good capability in reducing thermal NOx resulting from the distributed heat release rate and lower flame temperature in fuel-rich and fuel-lean combustion zone. Moreover, the fuel NOx emission of the multi-staged burner is lower than that of single-staged burner, because multi-staged burner has fuel rich zone where fuel N is converted to $N_2$ more than NO. In 3-staged burner, the percentage of each stage combustion air have strong influence on emission characteristics. It is also found that NOx emission can be reduced by decreasing inner and outer air percentage or increasing middle air flow rate and CO emission is vice versa.

Burner combustion characteristics of hybrid type water mixing emulsion fuel (하이브리드형 물혼합 에멀젼 연료의 버너 특성)

  • Water emulsion technology has the problem of unstable combustion due to the rapid separation of water. To solve the problem, a hybrid mixing device was developed. The device attached on the burner was tested. As a result, the fuel consumption reduced to 12% in the similar condition of exhaust emissions and flame temperature, and 45.5%, 98.5% and 97.2% of NOx, CO, and smoke were reduced at the same inlet air and fuel flow rate.

  • We presented the methods calculating the reduction efficiency of nitrogen oxide for the low $NO_x$ burner as the pollution prevention facilities. The standard $NO_x$ concentration was used on the emission factor of LNG, $3.7g/m^3$. The $NO_x$ reduction efficiency based on the $NO_x$ concentration was presented and the relationships between the $NO_x$ concentration and the emission factor or the specific heat emission factor were derived. These results could be accurately reflected on calculating the amount of the nitrogen oxide emissions. In addition, according to the arrangement of the low $NO_x$ burners the methods of applying their $NO_x$ reduction efficiency were proposed. The $NO_x$ reduction efficiency for the facilities consisting of the low $NO_x$ burners and the non-low $NO_x$ burners could be estimated with information about the reduction efficiency of each low $NO_x$ burners, the fuel consumption rate, and the heating value of fuel.
