  • This study aims to verify the effects of unrealized gain or loss, that is the fair value evaluation item of insurance company's assets and liabilities, to capital markets focusing on fair value evaluation of insurance company's liabilities, which is the core of IFRS 17 that will be implemented in 2021. For this purpose we carried out regression analysis to verify the effects of changed other comprehensive income(OCI) and accumulated OCI, published in quarterly financial statements of listed insurance companies, on stock price utilizing Ohlson(1995)'s extended test model. The results of the empirical analysis are as follows. First, changed OCI showed a significant negative(-) effects on stock price. Second, accumulated OCI revealed a significant positive(+) effects on stock price. Furthermore, extended test model classifying changed OCI and accumulated OCI in a basic model represented the highest $R^2$ number and public announcement policy of OCI, a kind of unrealized gain or loss item, implied that it could give positive impact on accounting information. But still the direction that unrealized gain or loss affects on firm value must be carefully reviewed and considered in the future via more detailed study by the user of information. Therefore this study is meaningful in that it can predict usefulness of information on insurance company's fair value evaluation via empirical test accompanied by introduction of newly established IFRS 17 and it also can suggest direction of information production suitable for capital market.

PA-designated retailers ("sellers") must accept end-of-life items returned to them by the consumers. At the local level, Taipei City implements a pay-as-you-throw program, whereby citizens pay waste collection and treatment fees through the purchase of special trash bags approved by the Taipei City Government. However. recyclables that are separated by citizens are collected free-of-charge by the City. Taichung City and Kaohsiung City, on the other hand, enforce mandatory sorting schemes, whereby citizens face penalties if they don't separate recyclables from the trash before pick-up. These programs have resulted in a significant reduction in municipal waste. Per capita waste collected per day has dropped from 1.143 kg in 1997 to 0.978 kg in 2000. • This study analyzed the determinants of capital structure based on the financial statements of agricultural corporations disclosed on the DART(data analysis, retrieval and transfer system) of the Financial Supervisory Service since 2011, when the Korea international financial reporting standards (K-IFRS) was introduced. There have been many empirical studies on the capital structure so far, but there are no studies targeting agricultural corporations. The sample period of agricultural corporations was from 2015 to 2019, with the debt ratio as the dependent variable, and among the variables suggested as meaningful in existing empirical studies, ROA(profitability), SIZE(corporate size), LIQ(liquidity), TA(tangible asset ratio), FA(fixed long-term suitability ratio), and GROWTH(growth potential) were selected as independent variables and panel data analysis was performed. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the debt ratio decreased as the ROA and SIZE of agricultural corporations increased. This can be interpreted as supporting the pecking order theory rather than the static trade-off theory in the relationship between the ROA and SIZE of Korean agricultural corporations with the capital structure. In addition, it was found that the debt ratio increased as the FA increased. These results suggest that Korean agricultural corporations need to establish a financing policy in consideration of ROA, SIZE, and FA.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of the cash flow of pharmaceutical companies on R&D investment. 143 pharmaceutical companies listed in the KOSDAQ market from 2009 to 2013. Financial statements and comments in general and internal transactions were extracted from TS-2000 of the Korea Listed Company Association (KLCA), and data related to stock price was extracted from KISVALUE-III of NICE Information Service Co., Ltd. STATA 12.0 was used as the statistical package for panel analysis. The summary of the findings and the interpretation of the significance of this are as follows: First, the current ratio (internal finance) had a positive influence on R&D investment. Second, the debt ratio (external finance) had a negative influence on R&D investment. The pharmaceutical company prefers internal funds to external funds due to the asymmetry of information in the loan markets. In other words, this shows why internal finances have a significant influence on R&D investment at pharmaceutical companies.

  • This study has analyzed predication capabilities leveraging multi-variate model, logistic regression model, and artificial neural network model based on financial information of medium-small sized companies list in KOSDAQ. 83 delisted companies from 2009 to 2012 and 83 normal companies, i.e. 166 firms in total were sampled for the analysis. Modelling with training data was mobilized for 100 companies inlcuding 50 delisted ones and 50 normal ones at random out of the 166 companies. The rest of samples, 66 companies, were used to verify accuracies of the models. Each model was designed by carrying out T-test with 79 financial ratios for the last 5 years and identifying 9 significant variables. T-test has shown that financial profitability variables were major variables to predict a financial risk at an early stage, and financial stability variables and financial cashflow variables were identified as additional significant variables at a later stage of insolvency. When predication capabilities of the models were compared, for training data, a logistic regression model exhibited the highest accuracy while for test data, the artificial neural networks model provided the most accurate results. There are differences between the previous researches and this study as follows. Firstly, this study considered a time-series aspect in light of the fact that failure proceeds gradually. Secondly, while previous studies constructed a multivariate discriminant model ignoring normality, this study has reviewed the regularity of the independent variables, and performed comparisons with the other models. Policy implications of this study is that the reliability for the disclosure documents is important because the simptoms of firm's fail woule be shown on financial statements according to this paper. Therefore institutional arragements for restraing moral laxity from accounting firms or its workers should be strengthened.

  • This study empirically analyze the effect of government R&D investment to find out whether it complements or substitutes for the firm R&D. In order to do it panel data set was constructed for the period of three years from 2012 to 2014 based on the number of 1301 data by utilizing national technology information service(NTIS) and publicly announced financial statement. Analysis was implemented in consideration of size of the firm(large corporation, small and medium sized firm) of which sample was obtained from only listed company. The result of two-way fixed effect model and two-way random effect model is as follows. In case of large corporation, government R&D investment has an effect of substitute for the company's R&D on the other hand, small and medium sized firm shows an complementary effect. It verifies that current R&D policy is appropriate. Therefore government's direct subsidy is expected to be successful to fertilize firm's innovation by allocating government R&D budget efficiently.
