Crack growth characteristics of elastomeric materials are an important factor determining the strength and durability. In this study, the fatigue crack growth characteristic of filled EPDM compounds with different reinforcing fillers, such as silica and carbon black, was investigated using a newly designed tester. Frequency and test temperature had significant effects on the fatigue crack growth. The crack growth rate decreased with increasing frequency and the rate increased with increasing temperature. A power law relationship between the tearing energy and crack growth was observed for filled EPDM compounds. The crack growth rate reduced with increasing filler contents. Silica filled EPDM showed a better fatigue resistance than carbon black filled EPDM. The crack growth rate of silica filled EPDM decreased up to 30 phr and increased again at 50 phr. The formation of microductile type pits was observed on the fatigue-failure surface of unfilled EPDM, and relatively coarse surface with randomly distributed tear lines was observed on the failure surface of silica filled EPDM.

In this study, GTZO(Ga-Ti-Zn-O) thin films were deposited at various working pressures (1~7mTorr) by RF magnetron sputtering to examine the structural, electrical, and optical properties. All GTZO thin films exhibited c-axis preferential growth regardless of working pressure, the GTZO thin film deposited at 1mTorr showed the most excellent crystallinity having 0.38˚ of FWHM. The average transmittance in the visible light region (400~800nm) showed 80% or more regardless of the working pressure. We could observed the Burstein-Moss effect that carrier concentration decrease with the increase of working pressure and thus the energy band gap is narrowed. Figure of merits of GTZO thin film deposited at 1mTorr showed the highest value of 9.08 × 103 Ω-1·cm-1, in this case resistivity and average transmittance in the visible light region were 5.12 × 10-4 Ω·cm and 80.64%, respectively.
Purpose: The present study is aimed to evaluate the combined effect of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (rhBMP-2) and recombinant human vascular endothelial growth factor (rhVEGF) coated onto anodized implants on osseointeration. Materials and methods: Six New Zealand white rabbit were used in this study. Each animal received 4 implants that were either coated with rhBMP-2 and rhVEGF (Study group) or anodized implant (Control group) in both tibia. This was performed using a randomized split-mouth design. A total 24 implants were used. The implant stability quotient (ISQ) value using resonance frequency analyser and removal torque (RTQ) measurement were investigated at 2 and 8 weeks. The t-test was used for statistical analysis (${\alpha}$=.05). Results: Control and study group showed good osseointegration at 8 weeks. The ISQ and RTQ values of study group were significant compared with the control group at 8 weeks (P<.05). However, No statistical significance was observed at 2 weeks (P>.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that rhBMP-2 with rhVEGF coated onto anodized implants can induce better osseointegration at late healing period.

Purpose: To compare the results of a miniopen repair with those of complete arthroscopic repair in medium and large sized full thickness rotator cuff tears. Materials and Methods: The thirty four(34) patients with medium and large sized complete rotator cuff tear were observed, Group I (complete arthroscopic repair) were 13 cases and group II (miniopen repair) were 21 cases. The tear sizes are from 1cm to 5cm. The average follow up periods are 24(range;12$\~$36) and 28(range; 12$\~$36) months. Subjective pain was evaluated with VAS (visual analogue scale) in rest state. ADL (Activity of Daily Living) and UCLA scoring system were used to evaluate clinical results. Results: At last follow-up periods, pain and functional scores were improved but they had not been shown statistical significance (p>0.05). In the group I and group II, there are no significant difference in VAS, ADL; UCLA score, satisfaction (p>0.05). Conclusions: In medium and large sized full thickness rotator cuff tears, there are no significant clinical results between the arthroscopic and miniopen group.
Design provisions for the development length of headed bars in ACI 318-08 include concrete compressive strength and yield strength of headed bars as design parameters but do not consider the effects of transvers reinforcement. In addition, they have very strict limitation for clear spacing and material strengths because these provisions were developed based on limited tests. In this study, splice tests using SD600 headed bars with $2d_b$ clear spacing and transverse reinforcement were conducted. Test results show that unconfined specimens failed due to prying action and bottom cover concrete prematurely spalled. The contribution of head bearing on the anchorage strength is only 15% on average implying that unconfined specimens failed before the head bearing was not sufficiently developed. Confined specimens with stirrups placed along whole splice length have enhanced strengths in bearing as well as bond because the stirrups prevented prying action and improved bond capacity. Bond failure occurred in locally confined specimens where stirrups were placed only at the ends of splice length. The stirrups at ends of splice lengths can prevent prying action but the bond capacity did not increase. From regression analysis of test results, an equation to predict anchorage strength of headed bars was developed. The proposed equation consists of bond and bearing contributions and includes transverse reinforcement index. The average ratio of tests to predictions is 1.0 with coefficient of variation of 6%.

Many researches have been performed on hybrid fiber reinforced concrete for years, which is to improve some of the weak material properties of concrete. Researches on characteristics of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete using amorphous steel fiber and organic fiber, however, yet remain to be done. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to estimate the compressive strength, long term drying shrinkage, and resistance to freezing and thawing of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete(HFRC) using amorphous steel fiber and polyamide fiber as one of organic fibers. For this purpose, HFRCs containing amorphous steel fiber and polyamide fiber were made according to their total volume fraction of 1.0% for target compressive strength of 40 and 60 MPa, respectively, and then the compressive strength, length change, and resistance to freezing and thawing of these were evaluated. As a result, the long term length change ratio of HFRC used in this study decreased by more than 30%, 25% than plain concrete at 365 and 730 days, respectively, and the durability factor of HFRC was very excellent as more than 90%.
The railroad bridges have been usually experienced by vibration and impact in service state. With this reason, it is important that the effective strengthening capacity should be considered to resist the kind of service loading. In this study, NSM strengthening technique is recommended for the concrete railroad bridge because of its better effective resistance for dynamic loading condition and strengthening cost than the conventional externally bonded strengthening using fiber sheet. However, to widely apply NSM method for the concrete railroad bridge, it needs that the strengthening ratio has to be reasonably evaluated with geometrical and material uncertainties, especially for the concrete bridge under long-term service state without the apparent design history and detail information such as concrete compressive strength, reinforcing ratio, railroad characteristics. The purpose of this study is to propose the critical strengthening ratio of CFRP plate for the targeted concrete railroad bridge with uncertainties of deterioration of the structures. To do this, Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) for geometrical and material uncertainties have been applied so that this approach may bring the reasonable strengthening ratio of CFRP plate considering probabilistic uncertainties for the targeted concrete railroad bridge. Finally, the critical strengthening ratio of NSM strengthened by CFRP plate is calculated by using the limit state function based on the target reliability index of 3.5.

The PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) thin film having P phase is prepared by the vacuum deposition with applying the electric field and its pyroelectric properties are studied by using a dynamic method to examine the possibility of the application to the pyroelectric IR sensor. The pyroelectric responses of the PVDF thin film are characterized as the frequency dispersion in both low and high modulation frequency regions, and their frequency dependences are observed. In the low frequency region (2~10Hzz), the polarization can easily rotate with the increase of modulation frequency and show the maximum since the reorientation rate of domains is higher than the modulation frequency. On the other hand, in the high frequency region (100~1000Hz), the pyroelectric response decreases as the frequency increases, because the reorienatation rate of domains is suppressed and thus, the change of polarization decreases. Pyroelectric coefficient, figure of merits for noise equivalent power and detectivity of the PVDF thin film are measured as 3.2$\times$10$^{-10}$ C/$\textrm{cm}^2$.K, 2.34$\times$10$^{-10}$ C.cm/J and 1.32$\times$10$^{-9}$ C.cm/J, respectively. Also, the noise equivalent and the detectivity are 1.66$\times$10$^{-7}$ W/H $z^{$\sfrac{1}{2}$}$, 6.03$\times$10$^{5}$ cm.H $z^{$\sfrac{1}{2}$}$W, respectively.

PZT(30/70) thick film was fabricated by using 1,3 propanediol-based sol-gel method. Prepared film of pyroelectric property was investigated by Dynamic method of modulation frequency dependence. Pyroelectric coefficient was obtained about $5.0{\times}10^{-8}\;C/cm^2{\cdot}K$. The figure of merits for voltage responsively and specific detectivity were $3.4{\times}10^{-11}\;C{\cdot}cm/J$ and $5.9{\times}10^{-9}\;C{\cdot}cm/J$, respectively, because of relative high-dielectric constant and high-pyroelectric coefficient. Voltage responsively was increased at low modulation frequency and it was decreased at high modulation frequency. Voltage responsively was maximum 1.84 V/W at 10Hz. As Johnson noise is dominant, Noise voltage was increased nearly proportional to $f^{-1/2}$. Noise equivalent power and specific detectivity were $2.83{\times}10^{-7}\;W/Hz^{1/2}$ and 3.13{\times}10^5\;cm{\cdot}Hz^{1/2}/W$ the same frequency at 80Hz, respectively.

The fabricated La-modified lead titanate (PLT) thin film without poling treatment was investigated for modulation frequency dependence of pyroelectric properties by the dynamic method. $Pb_{l-x}La_{x}Ti_{l-x/4}O_3$(x=0.1) (PLT(10)) thin film haying 10 mol% La content was deposited on a Pt/$TiO_{x}$/$SiO_2$/Si substrate by sol-gel method. The PLT(10) thin film exhibits a relatively excellent dielectric property. The pyroelectric coefficient (p) of the PLT(10) thin film is 6.6 x $10^{-9}C$$textrm{cm}^2$$.$K without frequency dependence. The figure of merits for the voltage responsivity and specific detectivity are 1.03 x $10^{-11}C$.cm/J and 1.46 x $10^{-10}C$.cm/J, respectively The PLT(10) thin film has voltage responsivity (RV) of 5.IS V/W at 8 Hz. Noise equivalent power (NEP) and specific detectivity ($D^{*}$) of the PLT(10) thin film are 9.93 x $10^{-8}$W/$Hz^{1/2}$ and 1.81 x $10^{6}$cm.$Hz^{1/2}$/W at the same frequency of 100 Hz,, respectively The results means that PLT thin film having 10 mol% La content is suitable for the sensing materials of pyroelectric IR sensors.
