Development of Material Qualification Method for LCM(Liquid Composite Molding) Process (항공기용 액상성형공정(Liquid Composite Molding) 복합재료 인증방안 개발)

  • Liquid Composite Molding (LCM), an Out of Autoclave (OoA) composite manufacturing process, has big advantages when making large and complex structures of airplanes. Since the importance of LCM process is increasing, FAA has suggested recommended guidance and criteria for the development of material and process specifications for LCM materials and process. The importance of LCM process is also raised by domestic composite material suppliers and OEM. This study suggested structures of material specifications and process specification of LCM materials. Material qualification method for LCM process and material was also developed in this study.

  • Composite materials used in aircraft must be certified using approved materials to ensure the the airworthiness of the aircraft. Certification is carried out by verifying the physical properties and processes of the materials, and producing material and process specifications. The composite material certification system in ROK(Republic of Korea) has been established through the MOLIT(Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) pilot certification project for aircraft composite materials. Currently, the KIAST(Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology) operates and manages the certification and shared data system. This study identifies realm for improvement in the established certification system for aircraft composite materials based on empirical evidence and aims to propose measures for the certification and industrial promotion of domestically produced aircraft composite materials.

  • UAM (Urban Air Mobility) is a new safe, secure, and more sustainable air transportation system for passengers and cargo in urban environments. Commercial operations of UAM are expected to start in 2025. Since production rates of UAM are expected to be closer to cars than conventional aircraft, the airworthiness methodology for UAM must be prepared for mass production. Composite materials are expected to be mainly used for UAM structures to reduce weight. In this paper, the composite material qualification method was derived and the materials were applied for small aircraft application. It is expected to reduce the airworthiness certification time by applying composite material qualification system and its database.

  • Urban Air Mobility is attracting attention as a future innovation industry around the world, and leading industries are considering the application of composite materials for structural robustness and lightening in the designing and manufacturing new concept eVTOL aircraft. To apply composite materials to the new concept of eVTO aircraft, this paper was analyzed about composite material qualification system of FAA & EASA and institutionalized by Korea Government, including the procedures and methods, the organization to carry out the material verification for domestic conditions. The domestic composite material qualification system will not only make it easier for manufacturers of eVTOL aircraft with a new concept to apply composite materials to domestic aircraft through pre-material qualification, but also reduce the burden of material qualification within the period of type certification. In addition, domestic manufacturers of composite materials with qualified material quality and performance will be easy to enter for domestic aircraft applications and composite material manufacturers with experience in applying to aircraft will have a positive impact on overseas exports. This system will be able to promote the development eVTOL aircraft industry of a new concept and enhance international credibility of made aircraft in Korea.

기술현황분석 - 원전 압력방출장치의 용량인증기관 현황

  • 원전발전소에 납품되는 원전용 안전밸브의 성능은 ASME나 KEPIC와 같은 기술기준코드에 따라 설정압력, 블로우다운(blowdown), 풀리프트(Full lift), 누설(leakage), 방출용량(discharge flow rate)등과 같은 특성인자로 평가된다. 그 중에서도 방출용량은 ASME SEC III NB 7000 코드에 따라 ASME 용량인증이 요구되지만, 아직 국내에는 국제적으로 공인되니 압력방출장치 용량시험기관이 부재하여 외화유출 및 국내 PRD 기술개발에 많은 어려움이 있어왔으며, 이에 따라 원전 PRD 인증기관 개발을 통하여 세계적인 인프라 구축의 필요성이 부각되고 있다. PRD 인증기관 구축은 국내 원전 핵심기자재의 고급기술 국산화에 이바지 할 수 있고, PRD 성능 및 용량시험지원을 통하여 국내 밸브기술 경쟁력 확보하는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

  • Since the introduction of advanced composite materials for use in aircraft, the material qualification has been a costly burden to the small airframe manufacturer. For each manufacturer, extensive qualification testing has often been performed to develop the base material properties and allowables at operating environmental conditions, regardless of whether this material system had been previously certificated by other manufacturers. In recent years, NASA, industry, and the FAA have worked together to develop a cost-effective method of qualifying composite material systems by the sharing of a central material qualification database. In this paper, the new methodology of composite material qualification is presented and material allowable of 350°F carbon fiber/epoxy composite material produced domestically is determined with this methodology.

  • In this paper, the technical problems or considerations which could be arisen at the certification for composite small aircraft structures per FAR Part 23 have been reviewed and the actions expected applicants should take also have been explored. This paper focuses on the technical problems considered to be happening and describes the relation to the certification regulations and to the certification experiences. This paper is general information to composite certification activities, and presents some useful guidance materials and reference materials. The general information described in this paper could not be applied to any composite structures and to the secondary structures which not critical to flight safety.

  • 국내는 수년전부터 저탄소 녹색성장 산업화에 부응하기 위하여 기존의 자동차, 가전 전자관련 산업뿐만 아니라 IT부품 및 반도체, 의료, 항공, 조선 등 첨단 및 주력산업의 고부가가치 부품생산에 있어서 에너지 절약과 효율향상을 위한 경량화 요구가 증대되면서 보다 진보된 기구방식의 초정밀 소성가공 성형 시스템인 서보모터 구동형 프레스 개발이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 서보모터 구동형 프레스 관련 에코 인증 규격 설정을 위하여 일본, 독일 등 선도국들의 에코인증제도 운용 현황 및 국제 표준화 동향 등을 살펴보고 소개하고자 한다.

  • In the design of composite aircraft structures, it is very important to set material allowables and design values, which take into account certification. And when determining the material allowable and design value of composite structures, the static strength, damage tolerance requirements, and environmental effects should be considered. The building block approach has been applied to the civil and military aviation industry for a long time and provides the principal certification methodology. This current certification methodology is based on extensive testing including coupon, element, sub-component, and full scale test. In this paper, some examples of composite allowable tests have been presented and the fundamental background and application methods of the building block approach have been presented.
