The study subjects were 585 adults living in a province. The demographic factors and awareness levels of stroke symptoms were surveyed through a telephone interview. In the survey, the most frequently recognized warning symptoms were 'sudden speech disturbance (84.6%)', and 'sudden weakness of one side (73.9%)'. On the other hand, 'sudden dizziness (67.0%)', 'sudden visual impairment (55.4%)' and 'sudden severe headache (51.3%)' were less recognized. In a multiple regression analysis, male, young age, no familial history of stroke, no acquaintance history of stroke, low educational level, no exposure to promotional literature were significantly related to a low awareness level of the stroke warning symptoms. Providing customized programs will be helpful for enhancing the efficiency of promotion and education to the population with a low awareness level of stroke symptoms.

  • The demand for medical care and welfare for patients with disabilities is expanding, and healthcare professionals are also increasingly interested in the need for medical care for patients with disabilities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the competency of disabled patients' management and the education experience of dental hygiene students, who are the main players of oral health care for disabled patients. A total of 196 students in the dental hygiene department and 3rd and 4th grade students were surveyed using questionnaires. As a result, most of the students had a positive awareness of disabled patients; 84.7% answered with the need to train dental hygienists in specializing in handicapped patients, 76.5% were willing to attend seminars related to disabled patients after graduation, and 71.4% of the students provided dental treatment for patients with disabilities in curriculum and comparative curriculum. The students who provided treatment for disabled patients showed that their competence in most areas of knowledge of disabled patients, oral health education, and oral disease prevention was highly evaluated as significant. The competence of respondents who answered that the theoretical education was sufficient was significantly higher. Based on this, institutional support for the education of dentistry for disabled patients is needed, and sufficient theoretical education and practical training should be offered to foster personnel capable of contributing to the improvement in the oral health of patients with disabilities. In addition, in-depth discussions on the training of dental hygienists specialized in handicapped patients should be conducted.

  • The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of staff training in PBS on the behaviors of staff and children with developmental disabilities in an inpatient unit. The perceived significance of children's problem behavior and staff's caring stress significantly decreased with the intervention. A satisfaction survey reported staff's high satisfaction with the process and results of staff training. This study suggests that PBS is a socially valid and positive intervention with problem behavior of children with developmental disabilities. The implications and limitations of this study, with directions for future research, are also discussed.

  • This study was designed as a meta-analysis to investigate the research trends in mathematics learning disabilities(MLD) area. The results of this study were as follows: The 201 researches targeted for the analysis can be categorized 4: characteristic of students with MLD, screening students with MLD, interventional teaching for students with MLD, and et cetera. Also, the outcomes of researches regarding intervention in MLD determined to have a large effect resulted in a total average of 0.958. Especially, as a result of analysing the effect size in accordance with teaching method variables in group-case designed researches, the effect was largest when direct instruction and strategy instruction was given. The effect was largest when the frequency of intervention was over 16 and under 20. The results in this study be summed up as follows. MLD can be served as a foundation in setting a direction for further research to improve in Korea.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the awareness and availability on items of 2018 assistive devices distribution program for the disabled in the occupational therapists. Methods : A total of 132 occupational therapists participated in the survey from May 1 to May 31. Results : 96.2% of the occupational therapists responded that assistive device is helpful in lives of the disabled people. Especially, they responded that assistive device is the most helpful in 'movement and mobility'. Awareness on an angle spoon/fork with built-up handle and universal cuff was the highest, while a visual signaling indicator was the lowest. Availability on an air cushion was the highest, while a visual signaling indicator and a voice guidance system were the lowest. 67.4% responded that 'sometimes' they use the assistive device and 77.3% responded they will utilize the assistive device. To improve awareness and availability, 43.2% needed financial support, 32.6% needed to add insurance bill and 22.7% needed related education. • The purpose of this study is to compare the differences in human rights perception between people with disabilities and staffs in the disabled residential facilities. Using data from the '2014 Human Rights Survey on Disability in the Disabled Residential Facilities' for 602 facilities, the study compared their perception of human rights(16 items), including human rights guarantee(12 items) and human rights violation(4 items). Result showed that the rate of perception for human rights guarantee and violation(except staff violation) of staffs was higher than people with disabilities(p<.05). This study demonstrated that there were significant differences in human right perception between people with disabilities and staffs. The cause of this difference would be the conflict between roles of staff and needs of person with disabilities, absence of human rights indicators by mutual consent between the two. Our findings suggested a need for study on strategies to solve gap of perception between the two, such as integrated human rights education, developing consensual human rights indicators.

  • The Korean ministry of education has adopted an educational policy about digital textbooks at K-12 schools since 2018, in order to provide students with individualized learning contents and activities. However, digital textbooks has been yet prepared and delivered for the students with disabilities in the inclusive education. This study aims to develop the guidelines on digital textbooks for students with disabilities applying universal design for learning, recognizing the requirements for the digital textbooks which can be utilized in the K-12 inclusive classrooms for diverse students. In this respect, guidelines on digital textbooks were developed based on previous studies and cases. The first draft of guidelines were reviewed with two rounds of the delphi methods with special teachers. In addition, scenarios were developed, representing the rich educational contexts with digital textbooks applying the guidelines in a practical way for students with 4 types of disabilities. This study can contribute to establishing educational policies and environments related to the digital textbook development and dissemination for students with disabilities.
