In a situation with reducing numbers of students and local universities in crisis, this study aims to analyze collection and loan usage data in small-sized university libraries and present evidence for guiding their collection development policy. The data was collected from Rinfo from 2010 to 2022 regarding the numbers of enrolled students, collected books, book loans, and electronic resources and compared the average values of entire 4-year university libraries to those of small-sized ones by year and region. Results show that while the numbers of enrolled students and book loans have decreased in both of groups, the number of collected books has increased 30% more in small groups and the amount of electronic resource use has increased enormously as well. Correlation analysis presents that both of groups have the consistent result. It is suggested that small-sized university libraries should highly increase their budget ratio to electronic resources for collection development and build a consortium by university's speciality for mutual use of electronic resources.

As the more web contents are available through the internet, relative importance of electronic resources in the library collection has gradually increased. While several measurement criteria are used for the effective collection development, the usage statistics is generally accepted as the key factor to assess the retention and cancellation of electronic resources. In this paper it was examined the roles and problems inherent in the electronic journals usage statistics, and then the quality of electronic journal usage reporting services provided by several publishers were evaluated, following the ICOLC and COUNTER guidelines. To apply the usage statistics of electronic journal on the library collection development, it is necessary that libraries, related association and publishers accomplish more consistent and practical usage statistics components. And it is recommended that publisher and aggregator accommodate the guideline for electronic journal usage report.

Small libraries, with their insufficient quantities of materials and lack of diversity within the collection compared to larger general public libraries, may need to be assessed and develop collections based on empirical analysis. This study suggests a method for collection evaluation with other cases analyzing ILL (interlibrary loan) data, which is especially heavy in Small libraries in addition to the holdings and circulation data that are traditionally used in collection development. Collecting and analyzing materials proceeded from 14 Small libraries which operate ILL in a city and tried to figure out features of each library comparing collection statistics with usage statistics including circulation and interlibrary loans. It also identified subject areas heavily used in a Small library, based on the analysis of collection and usage statistics, for the purpose of formulating future policy.

This study analyzes circulation patterns of books with checkout transaction count by 11 subject areas, 5 positions, and 5 divisions with a Use Factor developed by Bonn in an Academic Library. 20% of the loan books occupies more than half of circulation and these are regarded as core collection. It proposes a 'Loan books 20/50 rule' that 20% core collection accounts for 50% of its circulation. It analyzes the proportion of core collection from the aspect of each subject area with a use factor, monthly change trend and loan period. It also defines 'book usage' considering checkout frequency of each title and loan period. Circulation patterns of core collection are compared and analyzed in terms of both checkout frequency and book usage. Core collection occupies about more than half of both total checkout transactions and total book usages and they all show a Power Law distribution.

The collection management paradigm has drastically changed since the emergence of collection management activities on the internet. Due to the technological development of web, web has become the newly open field as a useful tool to facilitate collection management transactions. The purpose of this study is, by evaluating web sites of the university library’s collection management in United States, to construct the contents of collection management web site. To fulfill the purpose, 6 categories for the contents of the collection management web site are suggested. The result of this study can be used as the basic data for researching of collection management web site. Web site is playing a role of stepping up its activities and informing useful information on its selection tool and collection development policy.

The purpose of this study is to interpret the growth and the present status of in 6 major Korean cities and 9 provinces libraries using statistical data. The data were collected from The Statistics on Libraries in Korea, and were analyzed for a time series by using the Excel program. The result shows that there are great differences in major statistics of libraries in Korea due to the historical backgrounds and various political and social conditions of the country. The differences are also more likely related to the size of the library collections, budget and number of staffs.

The purposes of this article are to raise the quality issues of Korean academic library collections and explore the feasible solutions to resolve the quality problems. To the end a thorough examination on the quality of Korean academic library collections is at the first hand carried out, and then followed is a careful investigation on the various causes of 'surprisingly low quality' of Korean academic library collections. Finally discussed is the solutions to improve the low quality of library collections at both national and individual academic library level. Discussions on this article are based on the sample data with 10 major academic libraries in South Korea.

Currently, collections with public libraries are evaluated only on the basis of simple data, such as the use volume of collections with individual libraries, and interlibrary lending (ILL) results. To promote the ILL of regional libraries and raise the use of collections, however, the evaluation of collections should be expanded from individual libraries to regional libraries. This study aims to propose user-oriented methods for evaluating the library collections within a regional library system by using four kinds of data: collection, acquisition, circulation, and ILL application data. The results of this study show that the proposed method can reveal the positions of each library within a regional library system, and also the characteristics of a library's collections and users' needs more precisely.

The effectiveness of the library operation with the least volume is to bring the same amount of utility as the library operating with the largest volume. The major objectives of this study are to evaluate the library collection of Library and Information Division, Korea Rural Economic Institute, the sample library, by the fields and areas of research, and to prepare an alternative for future library collection of KREI. The purpose of this study is to propose the efficient and reasonable weeding model of the scientific literature by measuring a life-span of literatures in the field of nuclear engineering through citation analysis, the average life of actually discarded literatures in the KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute), and the life of use through the circulation data analysis from 1992 to 1994 of KAERI.
