In public libraries, there are many difficulties in fulfilling requests by users, as typically have from diverse backgrounds and purposes for visiting the library. To overcome this problem, collection development for public libraries is required to enhance the satisfaction level of users regarding public library materials. Thus, in this study, a survey was conducted of users of 10 public libraries located in Seoul to analyze their collection-use behaviors and the study finally presents collection development for public libraries in Seoul based on data acquired.

공공도서관은 지역주민의 다양한 정보요구와 관심사를 충족시키기 위해 필요한 각종 정보자료를 광범위하게 구성하여야 한다. 이렇듯 공공도서관은 방문하는 이용자들의 배경이 다양하고 도서관을 찾는 목적 또한 다양하기 때문에 모든 이용자의 요구를 충분히 만족시키기에 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 이를 극복하기 위한 노력으로 공공도서관 자료의 만족 수준을 높일 수 있는 장서개발정책 연구가 필요하다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 공공도서관의 장서개발정책을 제안하기 위해 서울특별시 소재 구립 공공도서관 10개관 이용자들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 이용자의 장서 이용 행태를 파악하고, 이를 바탕으로 서울시 구립 공공도서관을 위한 장서개발정책을 제안한다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze user behaviors of books in detail based on circulation data in an academic library. It analyzes circulation patterns of books for ten years from 2006 to 2015, which are surprisingly similar every year. Each pattern follows 'Loan books 20/50 rule' that 20% core collection occupies 50% of its circulation every year. This clarifies users' circulation patterns are highly consistent and very expectable. Also, using the cumulative distribution of book age, it defines the half-life of books and suggests the mathematical formula to measure it. Circulation patterns of the whole loan book and core collection for ten years are very different in terms of subjects, user groups, and divisions. This indicates that core collection plays a significant role in analyzing circulation statistics and usage patterns for the efficient collection development in the future.

법치주의 사회에서는 개인적으로 혹은 단체의 입장에서 모두 법률정보를 필요로 하지만, 특히 법률전문직에 종사하는 사람들은 그들의 사회적 임무와 역할이 법률과 관련되어 있으므로 더욱 강하게 법률정보를 필요로 한다. 이들에게 보다 효율적으로 법률정보를 제공하기 위하여는 정보시스템을 구축하는 것이 필요하고, 이 시스템은 이용자의 정보요구와 이용행태에 적합하도록 즉 이용자의 요구를 충분히 반영할 수 있는 내용을 수록하며, 이용자의 연구습관 및 연구행태 등을 고려하여 마련하여야 하므로, 법률전문직 종사자의 정보요구와 이용행태에 관한 조사는 적절한 시스템의 구축을 위한 선결조건이다. 따라서 본고에서는 법률전문직을 두 집단 즉 실무가 (판사, 검사, 변호사)와 학자(법학교수)로 나누어, 각 집단의 법률정보에 대한 태도, 정보요구와 이용행태의 패턴 및 법률정보원에 대한 태도에 관하여 조사한후, 두 집단의 정보에 관한 특성을 비교하였다. 그 조사결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 실무가와 학자 모두 그들의 연구를 위하여 주로 사용하는 것은 인쇄 자료로서의 판례집과 법령집이다. 그러나 이들 자료중에서 주로 이용되는 자료는 두 집단간에 차이를 보이고 있다. 2) 실무가와 학자 모두 일차자료들의 수록범위, 수록내용, 검색방법 등에 관하여 만족을 못하지만, 특히 검색방법에 대한 불만이 가장 크게 나타나고 있다. 이용자는 일반적으로 특정 주제어에 의하여 필요한 법률정보에 접근하기를 원하지만 이러한 요구를 충족시켜 주지 못한다. 3) 두 집단은 그들의 역할이 각기 다르므로 따라서 선호되는 법률정보의 종류에 대한 순서에 있어서 차이가 있다. 4) 도서관에 대한 태도에 있어서 두 집단은 상이한 입장을 보이고 있다. 학자들의 과반수는 중요 정보원으로서 자신의 개인장서를 활용하며, 도서관의 장서 및 그 조직방법에 대해서도 별로 만족하지를 못하고 있다. 반면에, 실무가들은 도서관에 대하여 비교적 만족하며 따라서 도서관에 대한 이용도도 높다. 5) 두 집단 모두 보조인을 적극적으로 활용하지 않으며 사서의 도움을 받는 경우도 극소수에 불과하다. 이러한 조사결과를 기초로 하여 볼 때 법률전문직을 둘러싼 정보환경을 개선하기 위하여는, 인쇄된 일차적 정보자료의 검색방법등을 개선하고, 나아가서는 법령과 판례정보를 위한 효율적인 시스템을 구축하며, 뿐만 아니라 이용자의 요구에 충분히 대처할 수 잇는 도서관으로 변화되는 것이다. 이와 함께 가장 중요한 것은 법과대학과 사법연수원에서 법학 연구방법에 관한 강좌를 개설하여 각종 법률정보원의 활용 내지 도서관 이용방법에 관하여 교육하는 것이다.

공공도서관은 환경과 유기적인 상관관계가 큰 조직으로 기준설정이 필요하고 따라서 효율적인 봉사를 할수있다. 본 연구는 기준이 가지는 특성과 설정과정을 분석하고 질적인 수준을 위한 이용도 조사와 봉사정신에 입각한 시스템기준 설정을 시도한 논문이다. 본 연구의 결론은 설치기준: 일인당 면적기준보다 시스템 단위의 지역기준, 장서기준: 참고서적 우선의 장서구성과 최신성을 위한 정간물 구입, 직원기준: 업무분석을 통해 전문직과 비전문직의 구별과 전문성 향상, 시설기준: 일인당 좌석, 면적기준보다 봉사형태에 따른 다양한 시설, 봉사기준: 이용행태분석을 통해 봉사정신에 입각한 프로그램 설정.

The goal of this study is to analyze use patterns of library collections using circulation statistics of academic library user's. For this purpose, the 264,804 circulation-related data of A-academic library which were occurred between March 2012 and February 2013 were collected and used. Five patterns of common user group (undergraduate, graduate students, professors, staffs, the others users) are identified for this study. Gross circulation statistics was analyzed and compared for different users groups and for different subjects. And based on these analysis results, author understood degree of collection use by subject, degree of collection use by user groups, latest materials preference in collection use by subject, latest materials preference in collection use by user groups.

The purpose of this study is to explore ways to imporve bookmobile operations by investigating bookmobiles' operating status and users' behavior in DaeJeon City. Concerning the bookmobiles operated in 32 areas of DaeJeon City, the suitability of visiting area and staying hours, the correlation between users' circumstances and lending aspects, the effects of bookloan shop in the same area, etc. are analyzed, and for the improvement of bookmobile operations, the utilization of volunteers, the connection with the main libraries' collection, the development of service programs, the strengthening of publicity activities, etc. are proposed.

The aim of this study is supporting efficient development of library collection and improvement of library service for users by analyzing utilization patterns of library collection using circulation statistics of medical library users. With this purpose, circulation statistics were extracted from 90,420 cases of circulation records in A library for recent 3 years (from 2012 to 2014). Specifically, circulation data categorized according to status and subject, loan data of most popular books and use data of inter-library loan service were collected and analyzed. Subject groups of this study are undergraduate students, graduate students and incumbent hospital employees including faculty members, training members and nondoctor members. For the result, medical library users intensively lent materials of Technology (Applied Sciences), Literature and Social science areas. Especially, the demand of the materials of literature was higher than the demand of the other subject areas compared in the base of collection development.

The purpose of this study was to provide suggestions for the effective management of e-journals in academic libraries. Existing literatures were reviewed, web sites were examined, and informal interviews with librarians were conducted. This study comprehensively discussed various aspects of e-journal management, including 1) user behavior, 2) selection, acquisition, and evaluation, 3) access and search, 4) user education and its promotion, 5) archiving, 6) open access, 7) collection development policy.

The purpose of this study Is to analyze and describe the characteristics of the information needs and information seeking behavior of ST information users of the KISTI. Questionnaires were distributed to the ST information users in the academic, industrial, and scientific sectors via mail. The role of the KISTI as the specialized information source and intermediary for other institutional information sources as well as individual users and the need for improving the strategies for customer-based services and collection development were evaluated. Major findings include the need for a more comprehensive effort to collect, preserve, and communicate the ST information resources. the need for much broader collection of journals and conference proceedings to provide the documents "on demand" for users, and the need to improve DDS in general.
