  • South Korea is an aging society with 10.9 percent of its population over 65 years of age, and the aging population naturally leads to a surge in elderly care costs. Compared to general hospitals and other hospitals that have systematic management strategies in an environment of intensifying hospital competition, the design and management strategies of nursing hospitals are insufficient due to the hospital's characteristics of long-term hospital admission and treatment. In this study, We conducted a symbol mark color and form analysis of nursing hospitals to establish a design strategy to meet the increasing demand on nursing hospitals. The subjects of the study were 131 hospitals that received the first grade of nursing hospitals in Korea, and each symbol mark was collected to analyze its form and color. Analysis of the form of symbol revealed that the most anthropogenic symbols were made with artificial objects, and among them, the number of symbols with crosses, hearts and human forms were higher. The color analysis showed that more than 50% of symbols consisted of two colors and the main colors were blue and green. It is expected that this research data will be used as a reference in the design of the symbolism of nursing hospitals, which will help consumers choose and develop strategies for hospital management in order to compete with the ever-increasing demand of nursing hospitals and hospital competition.

In-depth interviews show that the current policy or system is far from reality and does not fit the status or role of the workers and the operational status of the agency, requiring the re-establishment of the on-site system. Based on the research results, the development direction of day care facilities requires active promotion and strengthening of family support for improving and enhancing awareness of day care facilities to citizens at the national level. For this purpose, we conducted a questionnaire survey of social workers working at institutions designated as elderly long-term care facilities and collected a total of 312 questionnaires. According to the results of analyzing the data using a structural equation model, among the sub-factors of work environment, role ambiguity had a significant positive effect on low personal achievement and depersonalization about clients, role conflict on emotional burnout, and role overload on depersonalization about clients. Among the sub-factors of personal tendency, cognitive empathy and internal attribution had a significant negative effect on low personal achievement, and external attribution had a significant positive effect on emotional burnout and depersonalization about clients. This study is meaningful in that it illuminated social workers' burnout not only from the aspect of work environment but also from that of personal tendency.

  • As senile diseases increase with the aged increasing rapidly in an aging society, implementation of the aged long-term care insurance have an effect on the aged care and treatment. Though a decrease in prevalence rate can reduce social costs, the significance of that is overlooked. Especially, a program for a slight Alzheimer's disease and senile demetia in the spot of care facilities and welfare organs is nothing or a few programs which use only fragmentary techniques. So, In this paper, we propose a five-senses stimulation program for preventing senile dementia disease. It includes twenty processes stimulating five senses through proper harmony of senile dementia disease prevention techniques - hand exercises(sense of touch), remembrance therapy(sense of sight), cure recreation(sense of taste), music therapy(sense of hearing), gardening remedy(sense of smell).

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data in order to improve service quality based on empirical analyses about a relationship among positive psychological capitals, service quality, and job satisfaction of professional care workers under the Long-Term Care Insurance in South Korea. In this study, total 430 numbers of the workers who were currently working in nursing homes for the elderly at the cities of Ansan, Anyang, Bucheon, and Kwangmyeong in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, participated in self-report questionnaires. Only 393 questionnaires were used for the final analyses after excluding the ones that neither were not returned nor didn't completed it all. These are major results. First, positive psychological capitals affect positively on service quality. Second, job satisfaction works as a mediating effect in the process of positive psychological capitals affect on service quality. Based on above results, it is possible to suggest it as down below. First, it is required to have policies that will be helpful for both positive psychological capitals and capacity building through human resource management in systematic approaches. Second, it is also required to acknowledge that having positive psychological capitals is effective to improve both their job satisfaction and service quality. Therefore, it is necessary to change environmental circumstances in relevant institutions where this acknowledgement will be applied.

  • Korea government has launched long-term care insurance from 2008. However, one of the most important issues, whether or not providing cash benefit, is still unresolved. In this paper, in order to provide policy guidelines for the long-term care insurance, I attempt to estimate the Willingness-To-Accept (WTA) of the cash subsidy for informal care by using Double Bounded Dichotomous Choice method, a branch of Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). In doing so, I also estimated the determinants of the preference for cash benefit. Data were obtained from face-to-face survey interviews with 300 informal care-givers at three major general hospitals in Seoul, Korea. The questionnaire was constructed with two scenarios (mild/severe symptom). The results from logistic regression analyses and the estimation of WTA indicate that informal care-givers are willing to accept the cash benefit as low as 628 thousands won for mild fragile elderly and 1,072 thousands won for severe fragile elderly. The strength of this paper is that I estimated the WTA of the cash benefit by reflecting the changes in preferences of informal care-givers. The analytic results from the this paper suggest that the cash benefit in long-term care insurance is indispensible in achieving the goal of the long-term care system.
