Estimation of Residual Strength for an Aged Floating Dock (노후화된 플로팅도크의 잔류 구조강도 평가)

  • Due to its nature the manufacturing industry faces a cyclical economy, and therefore there is an urgent need for a companion industry to cope with this cyclic pattern in the long run. The sector suitable for meeting this demand is the repair and shipbuilding industry. In order to operate a shipbuilding repair business, a floating dock is indispensable, and most obsolete floating docks were imported from overseas and operated through repair/maintenance. However, there is no precise guideline for floating dock safety, and most models have been in use for at least 30 years without being required to enter classification at the time of operation. In this study, structural strength analysis was carried out using measured thickness information of aged floating docks, and the residual structural strength of floating docks in operation was analyzed. The main results derived from this study can be referred to as guidelines for the review of the structural safety of similar equipment, and it is expected that an optimal solution will be found within a short time using this method for repair/maintenance.

Study on flexural toughness and flexural tensile strength of fiber reinforced concrete by mixture ratio of different fibers (이종 섬유 혼입비에 따른 섬유보강 콘크리트의 휨 인성 및 휨 인장강도에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, a new type of polyolefin fiber having a good mechanical properties is being developed, and it is necessary to examine a possibility for the new fiber together to be used as a reinforcing fiber with other types of fiber or by itself. The objective of this study is to find flexural toughness and tensile strength of concrete reinforced with steel and polyolefin fibers. Four point beam tests were performed with 324 specimens following two standard tests methods: KS F 2566 and ASTM C 1399-02. From the test results, the effects of volume fraction of fibers, and aspect ratio of steel fiber on the toughness and tensile strength were investigated, and the optimal ratio of steel fiber to polyolefin fiber was suggested.

A Survey on the Residues of Organochlorine Pesticides in Some Marine Foods from South Coast of Korea (남해안산(南海岸産) 수산식품(水産食品) 중 유기염소계 잔류농약(殘留農藥)에 관한 조사연구(調査硏究))

  • The appearance of organochlorine pesticide residues in shellfish, seaweed, mud and water samples collected from south coast of Korean peninsula in September 1974 was surveyed to obtain the following results. 1) The residues in shellfish samples were found to be in the orders of Choongmoo > Yeosoo > Busan > Mokpo area, top-shell >short-necked clam > mussel > hard clam > red-shell, aldrin > ${\alpha}-BHC$ > heptachlor> ${\gamma}-BHC$ > dieldrin > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0-49\;{\mu}g/kg$ edible fresh muscle. 2) The residues in seaweed samples from Wando area were found to be in the orders of tangle > green laver > laver, ${\alpha}-BHC$ > ${\gamma}-BHC$ > aldrin > dieldrin > heptachlor > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0-60\;{\mu}g/kg$ dry matter. 3) The residues in water samples were found to be in the orders of Yeongsan River > Nakdong River > Seomjin River > Choongmoo shellfish farm, ${\alpha}-BHC$ > ${\gamma}-BHC$ > aldrin > heptachlor > dieldrin > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0-180\;{\mu}g/kl$ while those in mud samples were in the order of ${\alpha}-BHC$ > ${\gamma}-BHC$> aldrin > dieldrin > heptachlor > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0.7-18\;{\mu}g/kg$ dry matter. It should be noted that BHC contents of water samples from Yeongsan and Nakdong rivers were far above the recommended environmental levels in USA.

Residual Strength of Fiber Metal Laminates After Impact (충격손상을 받은 섬유 금속 적층판의 잔류 강도 연구)

  • Residual strength of fiber metal laminates after impact was studied. 3/4 lay up FML was fabricated using 4 ply prepreg, 2 ply aluminum sheets, and 1 ply steel sheet. Quasi isotropic ([0/45/90/-45]s) and orthotropic ([0/90/0/90]s) FRP were also fabricated to compare with FML. Impact test were conducted by using instrumented drop weight impact machine (Dynatup, Model 8250). Penetration load and absorbed energy of FML were superior to those of FRPs. Tensile tests were conducted to evaluate the residual strength after impact. Strength degradation of FML was less than that of FRP. This means that the damage tolerance of FML is excellent than that of FRP. Residual strength of each specimen was predicted by using Whitney and Nuismer(WN) Model. Impact damage area is assumed as a circular notch in WN model. Damage width is defined as the average of back face and top face damage width of each specimen. Average stress and point stress criterions were used to calculate the characteristic length. It is supposing that a characteristic length is a constant. The distribution of characteristic length shows that the assumption is reasonable. Prediction was well matched with experiment under both stress criterions.

Evaluation of Residual Strength in Damaged Brittle Materials (취성재의 손상후 잔류강도 평가)

  • In structural applications, brittle materials such as soda-lime glasses and ceramics are often subjected to multiaxial stress. Brittle materials with crack or damaged by foreign object impacts are abruptly fractured from cracks, because of their properities of very high strength and low fracture toughness. But in most cases, the residual strength has been derived from tests under uniaxial stress such as a 4-point bend test. The strengths under multiaxial stresses might be different from the strength. In comparable tests, the residual strength under biaxial stress state by the ball-on-ring test was greater than that under the uniaxial one by the 4-point bend test. In the case that crack having 90deg. to loading direction, the ratio of biaxial to uniaxial flexure strength was 1.12. At a different crack angle to loading direction when it was evaluated by the 4-point bend test, the residual strength was different and the ratio of 45deg. to 90deg. was 1.16.

  • 일반적으로 연속경간을 가지는 강합성 I-형강 교량에 있어서 내부 지점 부근에서 상대적으로 큰 부모멘트가 발생하므로, 이에 경제적인 단면 활용을 위하여 변단면을 적용하여 휨강도를 증가시킨다. 본 연구에서는 기존 강도계산식에 관한 연구를 토대로 하여 비탄성 구간에 있는 변단면 I형보의 횡-비틀림 좌굴강도를 유한요소해석프로그램 ABAQUS(2007)를 이용하여 산정하고, 간편한 설계식을 제안하고 있다. 지간 한쪽 끝에 계단식 단면변화를 가지는 보에 대해서 고려하였으며, 플랜지 길이방향 비, 너비방향 비, 두께의 비로 계단식 I형보를 나타내었다. 해석에 사용된 단면매개변수는 36가지 조합이며, 비탄성 횡-비틀림 거동을 고려하기위하여 잔류응력 및 초기결함을 고려한 비선형해석을 실시하였는데, Pi(1995)등이 고려한 잔류응력의 형상과 국내 I형강 표준 치수 허용치에 근거하여 부재 길이의 0.1%를 초기제작오차로 고려하였다. 해석모델의 양쪽 끝단에는 모멘트하중을 재하하였다. 개발 제한된 식은 선형 모멘트 하중이 작용할 때 적용가능한 식으로 경제적이고 합리적인 설계에 적극 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

Evaluation of Aging Degradation in 2.25Cr-1Mo Steel by Coercivity and Remanence Measurements - Microstructural Approach (보자력 및 잔류자화를 이용한 2.25Cr-1Mo강의 경년열화도 평가 - 미세조직적 접근)

  • Artificial aging was performed to simulate the microstructural degradation in 2.25Cr-1Mo steel arising from long time exposure at $540^{\circ}C$. Microstructural analysis (mean equivalent size, number of carbides per unit area) and measurement of mechanical properties(UTS, Vickers hardness) and magnetic properties(coercivity, remanence) were performed. By comparing these results, the relationship between magnetic properties and microstructural changes with artificial aging was clarified. The carbides were classified as rod, globular and acicular type in terms of morphology. The fine acicular carbides were found to diminish drastically in the initial stage of aging. The magnetic coercivity and remanence were observed to decrease rapidly in the initial about 920 hours of aging time and then decrease slowly afterwards. Linear correlations between the mechanical properties and magnetic properties such as correlations remanence were found.

  • 고크롬주철에 있어서 기지 및 탄화물의 조직제어는 내마모성의 향상을 위해 필수적이다. 특히 기지조직내의 잔류오스테나이트함량은 최적 내마모성을 얻기위해 반드시 조절되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 3% C-18%(or 25%)Cr-Mo-Ni-Mn 고크롬주철을 80$0^{\circ}C$, 90$0^{\circ}C$, 100$0^{\circ}C$ 및 110$0^{\circ}C$의 질소분위기 하에서 각각 20분 불안정화열처리를 행한 후 공냉시켰다. 잔류오스테나이트의 함량은 Xtjs 회절시험을 통해 측정하였으며 회절 peak는 $\alpha$200, $\alpha$220, ${\gamma}$220그리고 ${\gamma}$311을 이용하였다. 화학조성, 불안정화열처리의 온도 및 시간, 그리고 잔류오스테니이트함량강의 관계식을 도출하였다.

  • 티타늄 용접부는 수소취성과 잔류응력에 대한 영향을 최소화 하기 위해 용접 후 잔류응력 제거 열처리 작업을 수행하고 있다. 하지만, 현재 항공 분야에 널리 사용하고 있는 규격에 따라 열처리 온도가 다양하게 설정되어 있어 현장에 적용하기에는 어려움이 있다. 이에 규격 별로 대표하고 있는 열처리 조건을 선정하여 열처리 조건에 따른 용접부에 대한 잔류응력, 잔류수소량을 확인하였고, 용접부에 대한 강도와 충격 인성을 확인하였다.

The Effect of Resin Base Surface Treatment on Shear Bond Strength in Indirect Bracket Bonding Technique (브라켓 간접부착술식시 레진베이스의 표면처리가 전단결합강도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the surface treatments of resin bases in indirect bracket bonding technique by study of shear bond strengths and failure patterns. Ninety metal brackets were bonded to the stone models of specimens involving bovine lower incisor with light-cured adhesive(Light-Bond). After removal of brackets with the resin base from the stone models, the surfaces of resin bases in thirty brackets were treated with Plastic Conditioner and the surfaces of resin bases in another thirty brackets were treated with sandblaster and the remaining thirty brackets were served as controls. All brackets were transferred to the specimens and bonded using sealant. The shear bond strength was tested on universal testing machine, and failure pattern was assessed with the adhesive remnant index(ARI). The results were as follows: 1. Surface treatments of resin bases with Plastic Conditioner or sandblasting showed statistically higher shear bond strengths than no treatment group. 2. No significant difference in shear bond strength was found between Plastic Conditioner treatment and sandblasting treatment groups. 3. No significant difference in ARI scores was found among the three groups. 4. As the result of correlation analysis between shear bond strengths and hnl scores, failure at adhesive/bracket base interface tends to increase when the shear bond strength was high, but it was not significant statistically. The above results suggest that improvement of bond strength can be obtained by surface treatment of resin base in the indirect bonding technique.
