  • For the case that center crack is surrounded by four small cracks which are symmetrically distributed around center crack, the same values of normalized stress intensity factor of center crack according to the position of the tip of small cracks are located on the smooth curve. And the stress intensity factor according to any position of small cracks can be sufficiently obtained from this curve. The plastic zones between distributed cracks are also investigated by changing the positions of nearly small cracks. The occurrence of plastic zone due to the interaction between center crack and small cracks are analyzed by finite element method. The mechanical behavior at the vicinity of crack tips is investigated by plastic areas. The changes of plastic zones according to positions of distributed cracks are drawn schematically. The safety of materials is also analyzed.

  • In this study, the mechanical behavious of a center crack which propagates between two holes in a panel are investigated. It is confirmed experimentally and analytically that a center crack stops and a small crack initiates from holes and propagates to fracture because of the compressive stress arising along the path of the fatigue crack propagation. Futhermore, it is noted that regardless of the configuration of the crack and the structure, Paris' law can be applied to the fatigue crack propagation.

  • This study investigates the behavior of fatigue crack propagating between holes or holes lilted with another materials. It is experimentally and analytically confirmed that the center crack stops when its tip reaches near the center line of the holes and a small crack is initiated from the boundaries of holes or the holes filled with another materials and it propagates to final fracture. The mechanical behaviors of center crack near the another materials are also investigated. The phenomenon that this crack propagates to fracture is investigated by compliance method.

  • In this study, the stress intensity factor of center crack tip is calculated by the superposition method when it is surrounded by symmetrically distributed small cracks. The values of stress intensity factors of center crack tips are compared with those of the center crack tips calculated by the superposition method. These compared errors are influenced by the locations of distributed small cracks. These errors are inspected. When small cracks overlap and approach near the center crack tip, the effect of interaction caused by these cracks becomes noticeable and these errors become larger. In case of multiple distributed small cracks except this case, the stress intensity factor of the center crack tip is easily calculated by the superposition method.

  • Transportation or structure has the important role at clothing, food, and housing at modern society. If even the small crack happens and propagates at transportation or structure, the parts are fractured and they can cause a disaster. CT specimen was used in order to investigate the damage trend due to the crack propagation at this study to prevent this situation. As the material of CT specimen, the unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced plastic of the composite material in the limelight nowadays. The laminate angle designated in order of [60/-60/60/-60] was applied to the specimen model with the unidirectional fiber. As the analysis condition, the forced displacement was applied to the hole of upper part after fixing the hole of lower part. At the result of this study, the equivalent stress and shear stress was shown to be higher in order of the structural steel, copper, titanium and aluminum. This study result is thought to be utilized usefully at verifying the damage of CT specimen made of inhomogeneous material.

  • In this study, the governing equations of motion for multi-cracked nonuniform nanobeam based on nonlocal elasticity theory and embedded in an elastic medium were derived. DTM(differential transformation method) was applied to vibration analysis of multi-cracked nonuniform nanobeam based on nonlocal elasticity theory and embedded in an elastic medium. The non-dimensional natural frequencies of this nanobeam were obtained for eoe, crack stiffness and elastic medium stiffness with various boundary conditions. The results obtained by this method was compared with previous works and showed the close agreement between two methods. The important conclusions obtained by this study are as follows : 1. As the length of nanobeam is shorter, the effect of scale coefficient is greater. 2. The locations of crack change non-dimensional natural frequency, In the case of fixed-fixed ends, the non-dimensional natural frequency is the biggest in the first crack location of 0.6L of nanobeam length, and the smallest in both ends. In the case of fixed-free ends, the closer the location of first crack go tho the free end, the bigger the non-dimensional natural frequency. 3. As the stiffness of crack is greater, the non-dimensional natural frequency is smaller, And the effect of crack stiffness is similar on both fixed-free ends and fixed-fixed ends. 4. The bigger the stiffness of elastic medium, the greater the non - dimensional natural frequency.

  • In this study, the stress intensity factors of center crack are analyzed when it is surrounded by symmetrically distributed small cracks. The values of stress intensity factors of the center crack are greatly influenced by the locations of distributed small cracks. When small cracks overlap or approach near the tip of a center crack, the effect of interaction arisen by these cracks becomes noticeable. In case of multiple distributed small cracks, the stress intensity factor of a center crack is found to be efficiently determined by the superposition method.

  • We have investigated plasma spray coated $Al_2O_3$ layers on Al-60 series substrates for development of wafer electrostatic chuck in semiconductor dry etching system. Samples were prepared without/with cooling bar on backside of samples, at various distances, and with different powder feed rates. There were many cracks and pores in the $Al_2O_3$ layers coated on Al-60 series substrates without cooling bar on the backside of samples. But the cracks and pores were almost disappeared in the $Al_2O_3$ layers on Al-60 series substrates coated with cooling bar on the back side of samples, 15 g/min. powder feed rate and various 60, 70, 80 mm working distances. Then the surface morphology was not changed with various working distances of 60, 70, 80 mm. When the powder feed rate was changed from 15 g/min to 20 g/min, the crack did not appear, but few pores appeared. Also the $Al_2O_3$ layer was coated with many small splats compared with $Al_2O_3$ layer coated with 15 g/min powder feed rate. The deposited rate of $Al_2O_3$ layer was higher when the process was done without cooling bar on the back side of sample than that with cooling bar on the back side of sample.
