The study on Alfonso Cum-on's Great Expectations (알폰소 쿠아론의 <위대한 유산> 분석:원작의 해석과 장르변용에 있어서 작가의 역활을 중심으로)

  • I analysis Alfonso Cuaron's comparing it with Charles Dickens' the original novel and David Lean's . In order to evaluate film which is based on classic novel, formal difference between film and novel, people's preference in those days and director's interpretations should be considered besides how the film follow the original novel faithfully. Regarding to these valuation basis, David Lean's film is true to the original novel and same time successful to add director's interpretation by using Mise en secne in it. Alfonso Cuaron is also succeed in filming well-made, people-like work by modifying the original novel with the convention of melo-drama genre and by using modern film form without breaking Hollywood classic film grammar.

  • The advent of the handheld camera has dramatically transformed film production and consumption in countless ways. French director and theorist, Alexandre Astruc focuses on the development of 16mm camera and foretell film will be used as a tool to realize the personal vision of the author like other art. As proof of his claim French New Wave and Cinéma vérité create the film with handheld camera on the real location to capture new reality. Their films are distinguished itself from other films made by conventional Hollywood studios. Similarly, John Cassavetes in the United States began to focus on the handheld camera. Since then the handheld camera has become one of the popular shooting methods. Especially, handheld camera are noted for their agile movement and mobility as a way to capture various realities. However, with the advances in technology, lighter cameras and higher resolution have changed in different ways. The technology is neutral, one shooting method does not serve for one philosophy or ism. At one time, handheld shooting is now used as not only a means to capture the real world but also a tool to mimic a realistic feeling.

Research on Dir. Go, Yeongnam's Film Works (한국영화 최다작품의 멜로액션영화 감독 고영남의 작품세계론)

  • Dir. Go, Yeongnam has made 110 film works during 40 years from the last of 1960's to the first of 2000's. He has the record for the most making films in Korean film world. His first film is melodrama (1964). But he makes literary picture genre film after (1977). He has made various genre film such as 47 melo films, 6 literary pictures, 3 comedy films, 22 action films, 21 anti-communism films, 1 war films, 8 detective films, 2 costume plays. This research discussed on Go, Yeongnam's activity in Korean film world and introduced his all films from the last of 1960's to the first of 2000's. In conclusion I arranged the essay of Go, Yeongnam's film world through analyzing the story of his all films.

  • In the present, animations of auteurism and aestheticism became a unique genre of art that expresses directors' idea. 'Tale of Tales' by Yuri Norstein, a Russian animator, is a paper animation that emphasizes the cut out technique and picturesque feeling as well as complicated structure of sequence in expressing metaphysical themes in the author's historical realism. It is evaluated as unique and creative. The present study analyzed the montage technique applied through the development of several symbolic images, the diachronic expression of contradictory worlds, the unique foreshadow of revealing the causes of results later, rapid repetition of urgent and serious situations, the movement of the camera to express the psychological distance between two characters in different situations and the process of editing. The derived results of this study are expected to be helpful in the works of animators of auteurism and aestheticism.

  • Dir.Guilermo del Toro, born in Mexico and started his career as a special make up artist, has been valued as one of most creative directors over the world since he went through hardship to adjust himself in Hollywood system. Del Toro as director has had interesting development in the boundary between Hollywood system' demand and creator(auteur)'s self-consciousness from the his first film to currently . His works reflect his Catholic view of the world. Del Toro like to have the variation of convention on his works from the classics to modern films in order to approach audience easily. He adopts plots and symbols from Bible, mythology and ancient tragedy as same reason. After then, Del Toro constructs his creativity on it. Thus, his works are consist of combination between universality and creativity. This is the reason why His works are making success both criticism and box office hit.

  • According to Norman McLaren, a Canadian animator, "Animation is not art of moving pictures but art of drawn motions". As he puts it, animation performs the role of magic that turns static to dynamic. Particularly, the space of animation, which is generated through merger of several layers, creates distinctive space that is not to be found in other art genres. Also, the motion of animation, which, unlike live action in film, can be limitlessly created according to a director's subjective domain, has a more autonomous existence. In this paper, I study the space and motion in animation grounded in a director's subjective domain, based on the works by Tabaimo, the Japanese animator director and modern artist. She made an independent use of color sense and perspective that maximized a flat surface, which contributed to creating a new world that doesn't exist in reality. Motion created in such a space is more relative than universal. Therefore, Tabaimo's animation has made aggressive use of a device that gives more originality to the director's themed world, while audience can participate in the strange but new world.

  • For a long time, dramas that everyone has enjoyed at home have become the most popular cultural contents due to the development of digital technology and the influence of Hallyu.(Korean Wave) This study was conducted in-depth interviews and participatory observations on the background, role, identity, and labor experience of TV planning producers who appeared in the drama production process with the implementation of outsourcing production policy in 1991. The number of dramas produced increased sharply in the mid-2000s due to the Korean Wave. Against this backdrop, the planning producer has expanded their scope in the drama production process and emerged as a new drama producer. The planning producer plays a role in creating an environment in which writers and directors can be selected with the identity of "not a creator but a producer of dramas" and lead drama planning. OTT and watching TV on the Internet have made it possible to watch dramas without TV. As this phenomenon accelerates and becomes commonplace, fewer consumers adhere to the traditional way of watching dramas using TV, and consumers' emotional tastes become more demanding. In this environment, TV planning producers are leading the production of dramas, exerting as much influence as writers and directors. They are also building new power relationships among drama producers by securing planning and financial power.

In this paper, I attempt to analyse the sound of this film to interpret the complicated sound structure in . Godard was aware of the power of sound and experimented diverse methods such as 'direct sound', interviewing using the effect of on-sound and off-sound, multiple narration, reading a text aloud, sound effect and music which are controled and selected by himself in this film. , with its largely improvised dialogue, was a work of journalism which was recorded a generation of Marx Coca-Cola.

  • Fine art production methods are frequently incorporated into animation production. The Printing Expression method is often employed among fine art production. There are three main techniques in Printing Expression: Silk Screen, Woodcut and Etching. Animations that use Silk Screen and Woodcut techniques are quite common. However, it is rare to find Etching techniques in animations. So with that being said, I would like to introduce etching animation through the work of Piotr Dumala; the well known Ink Etched film director. Also, I analyzed the characters: movement, unique texture and sensuous feeling; that only mezzotinted Etched-Animation expression technique can show. If we can expand methods on how to show our imagination through etching techniques, it can allow many directors to produce etched animation films in which they can express their imagination.

  • This paper analyzes two films on the theme of love, and , which were released in 2002 and 2015 respectively, directed by Tod Haynes. Both movies have similar narratives of obstacles and overcoming of love, and deal with love that is not accepted by society. Two films conclude differently under similar situations, where the author's change can be observed. The purpose of this study is to examine the author's arguments and the process of change through comparison with the original novels and image expression method used in the films, especially focusing on the variations of characters in the original novels and Mise-en-scene and framing methods that visually depict the obstacles to the mind and love of lovers.
