This study aims to examine and analyze the operations and activities of Friends of Libraries groups in foreign countries. Friends of Libraries are groups of people who are voluntarily associated in order to assist libraries in their work. They have been involved with various libraries in many countries for almost a century. They support libraries by raising funds, working as volunteers, performing P.R. activities, operating political campaigns and being involved in the community. Nowadays. Friends groups are considered more important than at any time in their history because they provide such diverse support. Thus, new groups are being established in many countries. This study suggests that the establishment of Friends groups could improve library operations and services in Korea.
Till now disaster management is limited to be performed usually by the government. However, government has its limits to carry out disaster management effectively. Thus, diverse organizations and groups such as related agencies, citizens, NGOs, companies, are required to be formed as a multi-organizational cooperation system that is governance of disaster management. This research deals with concepts of disaster management, governance. Therefore, this study presents that effective disaster management plans such as citizens' support and cooperation with related agencies, forming professionalism and active cooperation with disaster management between volunteering and volunteer fire department and well-organizing NGO network, by minutely understanding the concepts of disaster management, governance and others and also positively analyzing influence factors of efficiency of disaster management.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate effectiveness of a peer support program conducted by older community volunteers for older adults living alone. Methods: Thirty volunteers trained as peer supporters were matched with low-income, older adults living alone in the community on gender. Visits occurred on a weekly basis over the 12 month study period, and the volunteers provided peer support for health management to solitary older adults. Data were collected, before the start of the program and again 6 and 12 months after its initialization, from intervention and control groups regarding physical health, general health, mental health, depression, social functioning, and satisfaction with social support. Repeated measures ANOVA was used to analyze data. Results: By the end of the program, socially isolated older adults in the intervention group had significantly higher scores in physical health and general health than elders in the control group. Significant interaction effects between time and group were found for depression, social functioning, and satisfaction with social support. Conclusion: The peer support program undertaken by older community volunteers was effective in improving physical health, general health, depression, social functioning, and satisfaction with social support in socially isolated, low-income, older adults.
A generalized linear mixed model is an extension of a generalized linear model that allows random effect as well as provides flexibility in developing a suitable model when observations are correlated or when there are other underlying phenomena that contribute to resulting variability. We describe maximum likelihood estimation methods for logistic regression models that include random effects - the Laplace approximation, Gauss-Hermite quadrature, adaptive Gauss-Hermite quadrature, and pseudo-likelihood. Applications are provided with social science problems by analyzing the effect of mental health and life satisfaction on volunteer activities from Korean welfare panel data; in addition, we observe that the inclusion of random effects in the model leads to improved analyses with more reasonable inferences.

This study used content analysis to examine the research methods in Library and Information Science journals from 1997 to 2001. Analyses measured research subjects, research method, data collection methods, data analysis methods, hypotheses, theories and research funds. Brief consideration is given to possible future methodological trends : web-based research methods, qualitative research, cooperation between academic society and librarians and research fundraising.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of voluntary activity or midterm examination on self-esteem, health-promoting lifestyle, immunoglobulin in Nursing college student. Voluntary activity provides positive emotion(higher score of self-esteem) and midterm examination provides high level stress to students. Emotion and stress affect immune system. Seventy-five and seventy-eight subjects were assigned to voluntary activity and midterm examination group. In analyzing data, paired and unpaired t-tests and ANCOVA were used. The results were as following : 1.1 Self-esteem of after-voluntary activity was increased significantly than before-voluntary activity. 1.2 Health-promoting lifestyle of after-voluntary activity was not increased significantly than before- voluntary activity. 1.3 Immunoglobulin of after-voluntary activity was not increased significantly than before-voluntary activity. 2.1 Self-esteem of after-midterm examination was not decreased significantly than before-midterm examination. 2.2 Health-promoting lifestyle of after-midterm examination was decreased significantly .than before-midterm examination. 2.3 Immunoglobulin of after-midterm examination was not decreased significantly than before-midterm examination. 3.1 Self-esteem of voluntary activity group and midterm examination group was not different significantly. 3.2 Health-promoting lifestyle of voluntary activity group and midterm examination group was different significantly. 3.3 Immunoglobulin of voluntary activity group and midterm examination group was not different significantly.

This study analyzed middle-aged woman volunteers' evaluations on their volunteering and its implications for the adult life-long education. They participated in the survey of the volunteer effects and the factors that made them continue to volunteer. Survey said, middle-aged women volunteers perceived that they got positive feedback from others and themselves and it made them keep doing on volunteering. Based on their volunteering experiences, they reported the personal effects such as positivism, caring, volunteering capacity, industry, maturity and the family member's effects such as positivism and participating in their volunteering. They also mentioned that they had positive and negative effects on family relationship such as family relation reinforcement and being indifferent to their own family. Based on the research findings, it was the emphasized that supports for volunteering of the middle-aged women that helps them to accomplish the developmental tasks in the middle age are necessary. The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of the operation of small libraries in Seoul and to assess the perception of their importance and satisfaction. For this purpose, 861 small libraries in Seoul were surveyed on the overall operational satisfaction, operational improvement, and the importance of operation. As a result, it was discovered that there is a demand for increased operational support for small libraries, enhanced publicity, improved education and treatment of volunteers, improved quality of the book collection, and continuously improved space and facilities. Furthermore, the public and private libraries should be classified to reflect operational characteristics of the operating entity, rather than implementing the uniform budget support and guidance management.
Disaster Management should be re-established and developed based on voluntary participations of individuals and groups, not only as a concern of the government. This paper proposes about improvement methods of managing volunteers for disaster management as follows: First, a necessity for publicity and recruitment focused on selfish motive to emphasize individual's development, selfrealization, worth and economic interesting relationship in a process of recruitment and selection, Second, a construction of process to commonly develop education program to volunteers for disaster management, Third, an activity area of volunteers for disaster management is enlarged to the intrinsic task of disaster management, Forth, an evaluation of quality for volunteer activity and compensation.
