Neighbor Node Discovery and Load Balancing Schemes for Energy-Efficient Clustering in Wireless Sensor Networks (주변 노드 발견을 통한 무선 센서 네트워크에서의 에너지 효율적인 클러스터링 및 전력 균형 분산 기법)

  • Clustering algorithm is an essential element to implement a hierarchical routing protocol, especially for a large-scale wireless sensor network. In this paper, we propose a new type of energy-efficient clustering algorithm, which maximizes the physical distance between cluster head and gateway by a neighbor node discovery mechanism. Furthermore, a slave/master patching scheme is introduced as a useful means of further improving the energy-efficiency. It has been shown that the number of cluster heads can be reduced by as many as 21% as compared with the existing clustering algorithms.

  • Bluetooth is a communication technology enabling short-range devices to be wirelessly connected. A master and one or more slave devices are connected to form a piconet, and piconets are joined to form a scatternet. The units participating in two or more piconets in a scatternet, is called bridge or gateway nodes. In order to operate the scatternet efficiently, both piconet scheduling for the master and slaves of a piconet, and scatternet scheduling for the bridge nodes are playing important roles. In this paper, we propose a traffic-adaptive dynamic scatternet scheduling algorithm based on rendezvous points and rendezvous windows. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared and analyzed with that of a static scheduling algorithm via simulations. Simulation results show that our algorithm can distribute wireless resources efficiently to bridge nodes depending on the traffic characteristics.

A Dynamic Transmission Rate Allocation Algorithm for Multiplexing Delay-sensitive VBR-coded Streams (VBR로 부호화된 지연 민감 서비스의 다중화를 위한 동적인 전송률 할당 알고리즘)

  • This paper describes a novel multiplexing scheme for delay-sensitive multiple VBR-coded bit streams in live multimedia service offered to high-speed networks. The primary goal of multiplexing in this paper is to keep delay limits of each bit streams and to enhance network resource utilization when they no multiplexed and transmitted over network. For this aim, this paper presents a dynamical control scheme which does not cause violation of any delay constraints to each bit steam. The scheme is based on the assumption that recent behavior of the each bit scream has high correlation with near-term future behavior. Such property is used to make as flat as possible by both temporal averaging on a stream-by-stream and spatial averaging is introduced when multiple VBR-coded bit streams are multiplexed. The effectiveness of the scheme is evaluated by several simulation using an MPEG-coded video trace of Star_wars and it is shown that the proposed scheme can effectively reduce the feat rate md coefficient of variation of the multiplexed transmission rate.

  • Recently, most of countries in the world are investing huge amount of capital for the infrastructure of logistics and trying to gain dominating position in logistics. To play the role of important hub in logistics, an efficient, flexible, and fault-tolerant transportation process should be developed. Minimization of transportation cost and timely deliveries in the unpredictable environment are a few of the important issues in logistics. This study suggests a way of transporting goods to destinations at the minimal cost and with the minimal delay by optimally allocating transporting resources. Various attributes in transportation such as due date, priority etc. are also considered. Appropriate transporting resources for each work item is selected by calculating the weighted sum of the cost factor and the delay factor assuming that initial sequences of work items are given. A policy to reallocate transporting resources is also suggested when work items or transporting resources are added or deleted because of accidents or disturbances. This policy provides adaptability to the allocation methodology which enables the system to cope with changing environment by controlling various attributes in transportation. Genetic algorithm is used for this approach.

  • The Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) service has been designed to accomodate non-real-time applications, such as TCP/IP based traffic in ATM networks. The GFR service not only guarantees a minimum throughput at the frame level, but also supports a fair share of available resources. In this paper, we propose a cell scheduling scheme which can improve the fairness and the goodput through the traffic control in GFR service. For the evaluation of the proposed scheme, we compare the proposed scheme with the existing scheme in the fairness and the goodput. Simulation results show that proposed scheme can improve the fairness and goodput comparing with the existing buffer management scheme.

  • We propose a novel call admission control scheme which improves the handoff drop and the new call block probabilities of high priority services, minimizing the negative impact on low priority services, in multimedia service cellular networks. This paper proposes three schemes to solve this problem; the packing scheme in which available channels of a cell distributed to each frequency channel are concentrated on one frequency channel and a high transmission rate service is assigned to the frequency channel; the queuing scheme in which the queue is used for high transmission rate calls; and the power reallocation scheme in which the power assigned to calls under service is temporarily reduced and a high transmission rate service is allowed. The simulation results revealed that our scheme improved the drop and the block probabilities of the high priority services compared with the conventional scheme.

  • ATM 네트워크에서 다양한 트래픽을 특성과 QoS 요구사항을 갖는 멀티미디어 서비스의 종단간 품질을 만족시키면서 망 자원을 효율적으로 이용하기 위해서는 가상경로(virtual path : VP) 의 적절한 배치 및 대역 할당을 통한 논리적 망의 구성, 호 접속 시의 종적 경로 설정, 그리고 그와 연계된 효율적인 동적 대역 관리가 필수적으로 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 새로운 호가 시도될 때 논리적 망의 설계에서 설정된 가상경로의 대역으로 호의 품질 요구사항을 만족 시킬수 없거나 또는 미리 설정해 놓은 가상경로연결(VP Connection) 이 존재하지 않을 경우에 물리적 링크의 잔여용량을 기반으로 적절한 가상경로를 선택하여 용량을 재조정하기 위한 최적 관리 모델로서 MHR (Minimum Hop Route), MCR(Maximum Capacity Route), 그리고 MRCR (MaxMin Residual Capacity Route)방식을 제안하고 이에 대한 최적화 정식을 제안하였다. 제안된 각 최적화 모델에 대한 해를 노드의 수가 m인 네트워크에서 O(m2)의 복잡도로 구할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제시하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 최적화 모델이 망의 성능에 미치는 영향을 평균 호 차단률 평균 이용 링크의 수 , 그리고 노드 쌍간의 호 차단률의 분산등에 의해 망 운용의 효율성과 공평성등을 비교분석하였다.

New Scheduling Algorithm for Fairness Criteria of ATM ABR (ATM ABR의 공평성들을 위한 새로운 스케쥴링 알고리즘)

  • The WRR scheduling algorithm is widely used in ATM networks due to its simplicity and the low cost of hardware implementation. It guarantees minimum cell rate according to the weight of each queue. The fairness is a important factor for ABR service. That is, scheduling algorithm allocates network resources fairly to each VC. However, WRR algorithm shows worse performance on bursty traffic. Because it schedules input traffics according to predetermined weight, it can not satisfies fairness criteria, MCR plus equal share and Maximum of MCR or Max-Min share, defined by ATM Forum TM 4.1 specification. The Nabeshima et al algorithm is not adapt to network status rapidly because it is not compensate the weights of unused bandwidth to VCs and assign the unused bandwidth to VCs by RR method. In this paper, we propose a scheduling algorithm for satisfying the two fairness criteria, MCR plus equal share and Maximum of MCR or Max-Min share, among the six criteria defined by ATM Forum TM 4.1 specification. The WRR, Nabeshima et al, and the proposed scheduling algorithms are compared with respect to fairness and convergence time throughout experimental simulation. According to the simulation results, the proposed algorithm shows higher fairness and more rapid convergence than other algorithms.

  • In order to sufficiently utilize the potential effectiveness of ATM networks, systematic and effective network management and control systems must be employed. In addition to network design, planning, and call routing techniques used in traditional circuit-switched networks. ATM networks can provide logical VP(Virtual Path) reconfiguration capabilities which can adapt to changes in the network environment. With a proper application of the VP reconfiguration technique, ATM networks can reduce the overhead of frequent network redesign and the overhead of call routing processing. However, ATM VP reconfiguration is a very complex and difficult problem which consists of many facets of optimization subproblems such as VP routing. VP sizing, VP terminating point location and VC routing. Most previous research on the ATM logical network reconfiguration problem dealt with the subset of the problem. This paper mathematically formulates the ATM network reconfiguration problem completely considering all subproblems. Since it is very difficult to derive the optimal solution of the formulated problem, we develop a heuristic method based on a Max min bandwidth allocation principle. We show the feasibility of the proposed heuristic method with a simple example.

  • Recently there are increasing needs for Internet and various kinds of contents. These traffics for various contents need more amount of data to provide high-quality information and require various QoS depending on the characteristics of contents. However, current Internet service supports BE (Best Effort) service only, therefore IntServ (Integrated Service) scheme and DiffServ (Differentiated Service) scheme are represented to support QoS in IP layer. Moreover, while wireless Internet is getting popular, MAC(Medium Access Control) is also becoming important. This is due to the fact that wireless access, resource allocation and packet scheduling, which are done in another layers before, are performed in MAC layer in many new wireless systems. This paper describes new scheme that provides QoS taking into account the traffic characteristics over Mobile IPv6 network based on IEEE 802.11e EDCF and evaluates the performance through computer simulation.
