Pattern Making Method and Design of Power Shoulder Jackets (파워 숄더 재킷의 디자인 및 패턴전개 방법)

  • Power shoulder look is most noticeable trend in women's wear in the 09/10 season. Specially jackets with sharper angle and wider shoulder became the best item since then, and were chosen for must-have item by fashion directors. Jacket occupied 50% in power shoulder items. Its shoulder angle was from 0 to 30 degree but items with 15 degree stood out among them. There are three methods to make power shoulder look jackets; shoulder extension method with moving shoulder tip up and sleeve cap height, method of extension and cutting sleeve cap with shorten shoulder length, and method of extension and moving shoulder tip up in the sleeve with shoulder line like raglan sleeve. As a result, shoulder angle is higher, starting point of shoulder line is closer to side neck point and shoulder point is extender to outside for appearance and fit. In shoulder extension method, the arm hole line was drawn with care by matching joining shoulder seam and setting the sleeve into the arm hole. In sleeve cap transformation, it is desired that starting point shoulder angle is moved closely to side neck point. In case of the sleeve with shoulder line, it needs to consider enough ease of shoulder and upper arm. For making patterns of power shoulder look jacket, it need to consider arm hole line, shoulder length, shoulder point position, sleeve cap height and sleeve width with interpretation design facts. In this study, through the analysis clothing construction method of power shoulder jacket, it is of help to pattern making for various power shoulder design items.

Acceleration Variation of Surrounding Ground according to distance from Strip-Type Crushed Stone Foundation (쇄석 띠기초와의 거리에 따른 주변지반의 가속도 변화)

  • In this study, the acceleration changes of the surrounding ground when crushed stones were installed in a strip-type were analyzed using the 1-G shaking table test. The ground was constructed from clay, and the foundation was installed using crushed stone of strip-type form. The response acceleration and response spectrum for various input seismic motions were analyzed. The change in acceleration was examined according to the adjacent distance to the strip-type crushed stone foundation. In the Hachinohe seismic motion results, there was no significant decrease in acceleration, but the maximum response acceleration for the two seismic motions was inversely proportional to the distance from the crushed stone foundation. As a result of the response spectrum analysis, the attenuation period in the long period and the short period input wave were different from each other, and the change in response spectrum affected the maximum acceleration value. As the distance from the crushed stone foundation was increased, the attenuation was larger in the period between 0.08 and 0.5 sec in the Hachinohe seismic motion, the attenuation was larger in the period of less than 0.2 seconds in the Northridge seismic motion.

A global-scale assessment of agricultural droughts and their relation to global crop prices (전 지구 농업가뭄 발생특성 및 곡물가격과의 상관성 분석)

  • While South Korea's dependence on imported grains is very high, droughts impacts from exporting countries have been overlooked. Using the Evaporative Stress Index (ESI), this study globally analyzed frequency, extent, and long-term trends of agricultural droughts and their relation to natural oscillations and global crop prices. Results showed that global-scale correlations were found between ESI and soil moisture anomalies, and they were particularly strong in crop cultivation areas. The high correlations in crop cultivation areas imply a strong land-atmosphere coupling, which can lead to relatively large yield losses with a minor soil moisture deficits. ESI showed a clear decreasing trend in crop cultivation areas from 1991 to 2022, and this trend may continue due to global warming. The sharp increases in the grain prices in 2012 and 2022 were likely related to increased drought areas in major grain-exporting countries, and they seemed to elevate South Korea's producer price index. This study suggests the need for drought risk management for grain-exporting countries to reduce socioeconomic impacts in South Korea.

Guidelines for the Management of Hydronephrosis Detected in the Perinatal Period (주산기에 발견된 수신증의 자연 경과와 치료 방침)

  • Purpose : Neonatal hydronephrosis is diagnosed with an incidence of 4.5-7% of pregnancies. Recently, early detection of neonatal hydroneprosis with antenatal ultrasonography has be-come possible. But consensus about its management has not been reached, especially concerning surgical intervention. The purpose of this study is to analyze the natural course of neonatal hydronephrosis and to determine the guideline of surgical intervention and follow up study. Methods : Sixty nine hydronephrotic kidneys were confirmed from April 2001 to April 2005. All cases were rechecked by ultrasonography once at least and had a minimum follow-up of 6 months. We classified the patients into 4 groups according to the anterior posterior pelvic diameter(APPD) on perinatal ultrasonography. Ultrasonography to measure the APPD diameter and Society for Fetal Urology(SFU) grade, $^{99m}Tc-MAG3$ scan were done to a set protocol. Pyeloplasty was peformed according to the protocol. Results : Pyeloplasty was not needed in most cases where the APPD was below 10 mm and where the SFU grade were less than grade 3. Many cases with APPD 10 mm above or SFU grade III above had undergone pyeloplasty. We found a correlation between obstruction grade on MAG3 scan and whether surgery was performed or not. Conclusion : If APPD is above 10 mm, SFU grade is above grade 3 or urinary tract obstruction is suspected by MAG3 scan, pyeloplasty must be considered. In cases where APPD is below 10mm and SFU grade is less than grade 3, we can observe the natural course of neonatal hydronephrosis with consecutive follow-up.   • The east coast area of Gangwon province in Korea is famous for natural beauty, many perfect sights and various kinds of tourist attractions. Especially beaches are one of the most attractive and clean tourist attractions in Gangwon province, when compared to the west and south coast of Korea, the natural environment is more prominent. But there are many problems concering the east coast beaches of Gangwon province, such as environmental disruption, collecting fees for offering services, crowdedness, lack of main convenient facilities, decrease of consumption, unseasonably cool temperatures etc. This study examined several problems as to the beach management of Gangwon province that has been suggested over several years. Finally, the author suggested several improvements to solve the problems as mentioned above.

A Technique for Preventing Noise Induced Hearing Loss Due to Mobile Phone Use Under Noisy Environment (잡음환경에서 휴대전화 사용에 따른 소음성 난청예방 기술에 관한 연구)

  • Human auditory acuity decreases naturally due to aging. But recently cases of impaired hearing at a young age are increasing greatly. The biggest reason for such an increase of population with impaired hearing is popularization of various kinds of portable multimedia appliances. Many studies on impaired hearing due to noises caused by the earphone and headphone are being made, but there are few studies on noise-impaired hearing caused directly by mobile phone communication. Based on a precedent inquiry, this study proposes a technique for preventing noise-impaired hearing applying to an active noise reduction technique onto bone conduction speaker. This technique is a method for reducing noises by antiphase oscillation through bone conduction speaker with ambient noises. If the proposed system is applied, the noise level that is actually introduced to audition decreases by more than 12 dB, and such a decreased amount of sound volume fundamentally prevents the factors of noise-caused hearing difficulty due to mobile phone communication. Sensibility test results showed that adequate communication was possible even in such a situation where communication volume was decreased like this.

  • Two dimensional numerical model of high-order accuracy is developed to analyze complex flow including transition flow, discontinuous flow, and wave propagation to dry bed emerging at natural river flow. The bed slope term of two dimensional shallow water equation consisting of integral conservation law is treated efficiently by applying quasi-steady wave propagation scheme. In order to apply Finite Volume Method using Fractional Step Method, MUSCL scheme is applied based on HLL Riemann solver, which is second-order accurate in time and space. The TVD method is applied to prevent numerical oscillations in the second-order accurate scheme. The developed model is verified by comparing observed data of two dimenstional levee breach experiment and dam breach experiment containing structure at lower section of channel. Also effect of the source term is verified by applying to dam breach experiment considering the adverse slope channel.

  • Materials made of metals have their own manifest resonant frequencies. Using this property, the quality test of products from the factory can be performed. An impact is applied to the product and the frequencies of the sound and/or vibration are measured using high-end equipments. They use a general purpose computer or a DSP(: Digital Signal Processor)-based stand-alone system which is usually too large in-size to carry and expensive to build. In this paper, we introduce a system that is developed based on a MSP430 MCU(:Micro-Controller Unit) from TI(: Texas Instruments). The ultra-low power MSP430 MCUs make it possible to make a frequency analyzer in a very small size without the need of using a large-size battery. The proposed system can be used in situations where the frequency analyzer should be carried easily with an investigator and should be built at low cost sacrificing some accuracy. We implemented the system using a launchpad supplied by TI and could confirm that the proposed system could identify with a high-accuracy the frequencies of various artificial and natural sounds.

Development of the Upwind McCormack Scheme (상류이송형 McCormack 기법의 개발)

  • In this study, the upwind McCormack scheme is introduced to combine the advantage of McCormack scheme, the second order accuracy and simplicity, and the advantage of the upwind scheme, to be applied to the discontinuous flows. This scheme also has another advantage of treating the source terms effectively. This model is approved through applying to the discontinuous flow case with the analytical solution, and the natural river with very strong source terms. Applications of the upwind McCormack scheme developed in this paper show good agreements with the analytical solution without numerical oscillation in existing McCormack scheme. Futhermore, applications to the natural river, the lower Han river with strong variation of bed and width, also show good results in case of both steady flow and unsteady flow. The upwind McCormack scheme in this study will be used for the analysis of flow in natural rivers effectively.
