  • This study aims to derive the criteria of folding techniques and their characteristics through analysis of literature and previous studies. This will be realized by performing a case study on male fashion design and folding. It will propose diverse directions and data for male fashion design, by making men's jackets using a folding technique. The concept and terms of folding were clarified through examination of existing literature and previous studies. Specifically, four pieces were created with motifs of the four seasons. Among the types of pleats expressed in the works, composition pleats include double ruffles, gathers, and draperies, while processed ones include box pleats, knife pleats, and accordion pleats. This study expresses continuity, fluidity, scalability, and ambiguity through the use of such pleats. The results of the production are as follows. First, in terms of the continuous use of regular and repetitive pleats, a possibility of rich pleats was confirmed because they varied depending on the gap between the pleat and target material. Second, in liquid but irregular pleats, diverse moods were created by the pleat movement. The overlapping of repeated pleats expresses diverse spaces and shapes in a 3D extended silhouette. Third, in pleat classification, ambiguity was confirmed with the use of continuous accordion pleats in the printed gradation fabric. It is anticipated that more diverse and creative designs could be created using more extended techniques in future studies.

  • We recently reported the characteristics of Chrysanthemum boreale MAKINO essential oil (CBMEO) at different harvesting stages and its in vitro antioxidant, whitening, skin regeneration, and antiwrinkle properties. In the present study, we investigated the effectiveness of cosmetic creams containing 0.1% of CBMEO in terms of wrinkle reduction and safety. The participants were 22 women aged 42 to 60 y with natural wrinkles. All the participants applied the CBMEO-containing cream to the eye area for 8 weeks. Visual observations of the skin by a dermatologist were used to assess the safety of the product, and improvements in skin wrinkles (roughness) were analyzed using a skin visiometer. Neither the CBMEO-containing cream nor the placebo caused abnormal reactions, such as erythema or allergies, during the test period. The CBMEO-containing cream-exposed test regions showed a greater reduction in the roughness index as compared with those of the placebo-exposed control regions. The R1, R2, and R3 indices showed a statistically significant decrease in the test regions as compared with the placebo control regions after using the cream for 2 weeks (p<0.05). Therefore, this study demonstrated that CBMEO-containing cosmetics are safe for human use and that they have skin wrinkle improvement properties. In the future, CBMEO may be a promising product for use in the development of functional anti-wrinkle cosmetics.

  • Species composition, spatial distribution of major species, diameter and height classes distribution, and species diversity were .analyzed in the Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora, hereafter referred as pine) forest in the permanent quadrats, which were designed for Long Term Ecological Research (LTER). Collected data were compared with those from the other areas including urban center (Mt. Inwang and Hongneung) and boundary areas (Mts. Acha, Bukhan, Bulam, Cheonggye, Daemo, and Surak), and natural areas (Mts. Seolak, Songni, and Wolak) to clarify the ecological characteristics of pine forest on Mt. Nam. Species composition of pine forest on Mt. Nam showed a similarity with those of urban center but did a little and big differences with those on urban boundary and natural areas, respectively. Such differences that pine forest on Mt. Nam showed, were usually due to Styrax japonicus, Sorbus alnifolia, Oplismenus undulatifolius, Ailanthus altissima, Ageratina altissima and so on, which showed higher coverage there. Predicted from diameter and height classes distribution of tree species, pine forest on Mt. Nam showed a possibility to be replaced by a S. japonica. Considered that this replacer species is not only a sub-tree but also shade intolerant, such successional trend could be interpreted as a sort of retrogressive succession. Those on urban boundary and natural areas showed a difference by displaying probabilities to be maintained as themselves as an edaphic climax or succeeded to oak forests. Species diversity of pine forest on Mt. Nam was lower than those in urban boundary and natural areas due to excessive dominance of several species, which led to different species composition from the other areas. Plants, which produced the differences, were species that flourishes in the polluted industrial area (S. japonica and S. alnifolia), favors the disturbed site (O. undulatifolius), and exotic species (A. altissima and Eupatorium rugosum). Those results reflects that pine forest of Mt. Nam was exposed on severe environmental pollution and excessive human interferences.

  • Raw sap of essential oil in Korean Dendropanax lacquer was extracted with ethanol, and which was cured by using ROMP (ring opening metathesis polymerization, one of olefin metathesis). Curing behavior with subsequent film properties were studied and compared with conventional curing (under ambient conditions) and UV photo curing. The compositional changes of major ingredients in the lacquer before and after curing were studied by using GC-MS (gas chromatography mass spectrometry). ROMP-cured coating film showed higher gel contents (40%) as compared to those of conventional (8%) and UV curing (25%). ROMP curing with 2 wt% Grubbs' catalyst at $100^{\circ}C$ completed curing reaction within 2 h, which was much faster than that of conventional curing. The quality of coating film prepared with ROMP was more homogeneous and wrinkle-free as compared with that with UV curing. It was found that major ingredients of sesquiterpenes, such as ${\alpha}$-selinene, ${\beta}$-selinene, and ${\delta}$-cadinene were reacted in ROMP, as well as polyacetylenes.

  • We present a cloth simulation technique that is very stable yet also responsive. The stability of the technique allows the use of a large fixed time step when simulating various types of fabrics and character motions. The animations generated using this technique are strikingly realistic. Wrinkles form and disappear in a quite natural way, which is the feature that most distinguishes textile fabrics from other sheet materials. Significant improvements in both the stability and realism were made possible by overcoming the post-buckling instability as well as the numerical instability. The instability caused by buckling arises from a structural instability and therefore cannot be avoided by simply employing an implicit method. Addition of a damping force may help to avoid instabilities; however, it can significantly degrade the realism of the cloth motion. In this paper, a new buckling model based on immediate buckling assumption is proposed. A cloth element is assumed to reach a stable configuration immediately once it begins to buckle. This assumption makes it possible to simulate the fabric buckling stably without introducing any fictitious damping force. Consequently, it produces highly responsive cloth motion as well as improves the stability by modeling the fabric-specific buckling property adequately.

  • In this context, it should be mentioned that multilamellar vesicles can be prepared with the main compounds of the intercellular lipids, ceramides, cholesterol, cholesteryl ester, squalane, lecithin, wax ester by effect of the wetting. We investigated properties formation of MLV with use of the AHAsomes and Microfluidizer. The multilamellar vesicles are formed merely adding polyol and water phase, followed with the microfluidizer. Formation of a practically pure AHAsomes system, containing the active ingredients directly incorporated without need for preservatives. There were very good encapsulated properties of the active ingredients whether hydrophilic(malic acid, tartaric acid, lactic acid, allantoin, urea) and hydrophobic(vitamin-I acetate, vitamin-A palmitate). Optimum condition (ormatiom of MLV was passed three times in the microfluidizer, particle size of the vesicles should be within range 50-523nm (mean=163.5nm). As application, It was compared that horny layer of the sole of foots removal with the general OM emulsion and the AHAsomes cream. There was used for three months, those got recovery wrinkles about 151.8% and elasticity three times more the AHAsomes than O/W emulsions, It was confirmed with the Image Analyzer and the Cutometer.

  • In the traditional medicine, the basidiocarps of Poria cocos (Fr.) Wolf naturally collected have been widely used as a traditional remedy for dropsy, diarrhea, gonorrhea and nervous disease more than 3500 years ago. It was recently found to be composed of the particular compounds having antitumor effects. Therefore, its demand has been gradually increased, whereas it is still dependent upon the natural harvest. The artificial cultivation of P. cocos was carried out to observe the morphological characteristics and to investigate the cultural characteristics of P. cocos isolates collected. The morphological characteristics of its basidiocarps was observed. The physiological aspects of its isolates were also investigated.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the relationship of occurrence and distribution of Eupatorium rugosum by forest types and soil characteristics in Mt. Namsan in Seoul, Korea. E. rugosum is designated as a harmful non-indigenous plant in ecosystem by the Natural Environment Conservation Act in Korea. E. rugosum grew along roadside and in valleys with some favorable light conditions. E. rugosum occurred in aggregations under Pinus densiflora and Robinia pseudoacacia communities. And it was sparse in forests of Quercus mongolica and P. koraiensis. The representative herb layer species were Oplismenus undulatifolius, and Parthenocissus tricuspidata in the E. rugosum communities. There was a significantly negative correlation between the coverage of E. rugosum and the coverage of tree layer. However, the result of ANOVA of E. rugosum coverage by dominant species of tree layers did not show a significant difference (p>0.05). The level of soil moisture content, organic content, and pH, was slightly higher in communities with E. rugosum than without, but it was statistically non-significant difference. However, it was found that the coverage of E. rugosum was very significantly negative correlated with the depth of top soil profile (litter and fermentation layer, p<0.05).
